I just did a vanilla Install on my new laptop and i can´t get 64 bit to work. The game menu loads up normal but I can´t open any scenario/QD or anything. It loads for a couple of seconds, than the screen goes black and I can only restart the laptop (not even possible to close the game). Grafik Settings and all don´t make a difference. I´ve tried all the usual tricks with reinstalling everything from the install folder, setting up the audio bat file to 64, verifying the game etc.
Remember, this is a vanilla install and happenend from the first time I entered the game in 64 bit (32 bit and other games are running normal).
Is this a known thing and if so, what can I do about it? I´ll provide more details if needed. The laptop is brand new and higher price range. It´s definitly not the problem here, but I´ll list all stats, if needed.

I have been playing TS for nearly ten years and to be honest, I´m shocked that this game just keeps causing issues, even on a fresh vanilla install on a new device.

Same here. I can not play 64 Bit, black screen after loading scenario. But I can play 64 Bit DX12 Experimental with no issues.
Got a new I9 laptop (specs below) last week.

My laptop did this on a clean install on more than one old game. It was because it was trying to use the integrated graphics card rather than the Nvidia 3060 GPU and the integrated card wasn’t good enough.

It’s because TSC is an old game. It doesn’t recognise that it should use the dedicated GPU by default, that was the reason the DX12 version also worked for me (just very slow) as this decided to use the dedicated GPU without me telling it.

Somebody posted instructions on how to configure this elsewhere on the forum and I’m not near my PC to make screenshots, but I found this link which tells you how.

    https://www.alphr.com/force-program-to-use-gpu/

If the link doesn’t work just search for Force Program to use GPU.

If your laptop doesn’t have a dedicated GPU, then that won’t help. You can try raising a ticket from the support link, but as DTG specifically says that laptops may work but are not supported, I’m not sure if they can help.

I did confirm last week that Railworks EXE was run using the NVidea card. I assume the 64 Bit DX12 (which runs fine) as well as the 64 Bit (black scree loading scenario) use that.

Yes I saw that on another thread, but the symptoms were exactly the same as I had so I posted it in case it helps someone else.

Just to check though, did you add all three .exe files
    (32, 64 and experimental).

Sorry it doesn’t help you, I hope you can get it sorted soon.

I did not add anything Tiger. Not interested in 32 Bit , but are you saying there are two different 64 Bit executables?

In the NVidia Control Panel (and windows control panel) for mine to work, I added all 3 Railworks EXE files. I’m not at home right now so can’t remember the file names. Just add them all into Nvidia control panel, you can always delete them again.

I added the 64 bit exe to nvidia control panel and it actually solved the problem! Thx everyone. Everything seems to be working for now.
I have only played on PC in the past and did not know this was necessary on a laptop.

Hey Tiger, did what you wrote and dang . . .

Did a test driving Tehachapi Route switchyard and in 64 Bit DX12 where I previously had the for me very impressive high 20s FPS I now had , running 64 Bit Standard, a whopping 60+FPS !!!! Amazing!!!! This also enabled me to change the in- gane graphic settings from HIGH to HIGHEST !!!!
