Isn't burg also a name for "town" or city in German ?

I guess? you could translate it literally to something like castle, but "Burg" also appears often in city/town names such as Augsburg for example.

Better than "Furzburg", is it not? That crosses my dirty mind...

It holds a different namespace from TSW3, meaning it isn't a simple DLC.
    It's certainly no Fishing game.

F and W are nothing alike... except their pronounciations on V (in german, of course) so that's luckily not what I think about. And dude why Furzburg that's like... ew.

I find it weird that people think because TSW3 leaves Game Pass that must mean there is a TSW4 coming, pretty much all third party games added to Game Pass leave after a year. Game Pass is designed to give you a game for a year then hope you will pay for it when it leaves, there is no reason why this is any different.

Personally I don't want a TSW4 yet, but I'll be onboard for a Rush Hour style release.

First of all, there's a precedent. And secondly you have the seemingly very intimate partnership with GP that DTG has, having been on GP for a very long time and participating in special GP events.

That being said, I'm not entirely convinced TSW4 is the name of the new release. Not that the name really matters that much.

This isn’t true at all, some third party games have been on gamepass for 4 years + now, different iterations of train sim world have been on gamepass since 2018

To put perception into numbers, of the 67 day one third party games that joined Game Pass between Aug 2021 and Jul 2021, 43 (64%) of them left one year later, DTG mentioned back in November that it was a one year deal, so either they knew then that they were switching to a yearly release cycle or they signed the same 1 year deal as the majority of publishers.

This doesn't, of course, preclude new stuff arriving on Game Pass, if they do a Rush Hour style release with 3 bundled routes they could easily make that the new Game Pass version for the next year.

Denying the existence of TSW4 would automatically confirm the existence of a Rush Hour style refresh, from the files on Epic's server it has to be one or or the other, so they can't confirm nor deny anything without giving the entire game away.

They can't confirm or deny. That would pretty much rule out the point of the reveal event.

There is literally no "we'll see" about this.
"Smithfield" and the various entities also named "Smithfield" are all in a seperate namespace.
    It is NOT a TSW3 add-on.

A Burg meant any fortified place. If it had walls and towers, it was a Burg. (Compare Anglo-Saxon burh (as in Edinburgh), fortified town).

...Except the routes themselves, new locomotives, and the new core features.

Seriously, they'd have plenty to announce if they went and confirmed what TSW4 is exactly. And frankly I don't see why DTG would want to have players worrying so much about if they need to pay for the next version of the game. That is unless they feel the answer is just gonna make things worse.

The game pass withdrawal is one of many things suggesting TSW4.

The game pass withdrawal does suggest nothing because it happens frequently but in the series of events it points indeed to TSW4. The same events are going on as with the release of TSW3. The naming scheme might be different than TSW4 but it's a major update for sure

Going to be brave and put down some predictions here based on circumstantial evidence that I've seen - I'll probably be mostly wrong (especially as I'm making a lot of predictions) but if I remember I'll come back on the 22nd and see what (if anything) I got right!

    General predictions about the release
    1) TSW3 will continue for the foreseeable to have at least some routes released and remain in current form primarily for Gen 8 consoles.
    2) TSW4 will be Gen 9 and PC only or similar with a new feature set of some description.
    3) There will be some kind of pass launched allowing new players to access a large amount of existing content with some kind of recurring payment, but existing players will be able to buy DLC in the usual manner.

    Route predictions
    USA
    4) Antelope Valley Line with Metrolink EMD F125 + Hyundai Rotem cab car

    UK
    5) ECML King's Cross / Blackfriars to Peterborough with LNER 80x, TL 700/1 and GN 387. 60103 Flying Scotsman to be included with a deluxe pack as a railtour DLC celebrating 100 years of the locomotive (may also layer onto other lines where steam railtours already exist as a substitution for the Jubilee).

    Germany/Austria
    6) Lindau-Insel to Bludenz with ÖBB Talent 1 Class 4024 + some other versions of existing locos (this will be released for TSW3 too)

    7) There may also be a fourth route included - if so I'd guess that it would be another German route and/or an extension to an existing route similar to SEHX treatment on TSW3. This is much more of a wild guess though and doesn't have much if any evidence to back it up.

    Rivet
    8) West Highland Line Fort William - Mallaig with Class 37/4 (large logo livery) and Black Five.

    Just Trains
    9) Ormskirk - Blackpool North, Blackpool South and Burn Naze with BR Class 142 Pacer, BR Class 47 (large logo livery) and BR Class 08. This will be released for TSW3 too.

    Other predictions
    10) Peak Forest green diesel pack featuring Class 45/0 and Class 111 DMU (coming to TSW3 too)

I reckon I'll get maybe 2 or 3 of these at least partially right but we'll see!

PS. The list of circumstantial evidence is very long and in places very flimsy so I won't go through it all again here

Those are some good predictions! What is the evidence behind 4) USA route?

    6) looks very plausible with one of the WIP screenshots in one of DTGs articles showing hills around Bregenz, but also I remember seeing somewhere a reference to "Central Europe" instead of the usual "Germany". If so, this could be a breath of fresh air even though Austria is very similar to Germany.

Those are some good predictions right there, although I would say in regards to the PFR diesel pack that a class 104 would be more fitting then a class 111.

A couple of users on this forum (that don't have a history of trolling) claimed to have found something on the DTG website referencing a TSW4 US route that is 76.6 miles long and in the sunny part of the US. Antelope Valley Line matches the route length and location description and is the kind of route that I could see DTG making. Would also serve as a useful basis for doing Pacific Surfliner later too, thinking about Matt's recent comments on 'digging deeper holes'.

It may be that I'm being fooled (and fair enough if so) but it's the most convincing thing I've seen so far regarding a US route.

I read Jan's message as 'TSW won't be moving to a mandatory paid subscription model' which is a little different to 'there won't be a season pass option'. I guess it depends on how you read the first message.

But as I said, I'm happy to be wrong - we'll find out soon enough (unless you want to clarify dtg_jan - sorry if I've pinged you while you're on holiday)

no worries everyone seems to be on edge these days. I took a look for you and some information below. Would be a lot of work put in for what looks to be around 22 services a day. But 19 more days to find out

Is there any freight on this line? I'm not really familiar with it at all. A mixed US freight / passenger line would be great.

After watching a few YouTube videos there do seem to be a small number of UP freight services, really nothing all that significant though.

I think that's what they might be playing speaking of the Austrian German route you should have ÖBB Baureihe 1016-1216 ÖBB Baureihe 4748 S-Bahn Vorarlberg shunter ÖBB Baureihe 1163

The only freight on that line is any UP stack trains from Los Angeles or Long Beach, so not really much variety. There may be some freight and local traffic to Ventura, but that's not much of the line before it splits off.

Freight has been scarce on that line once the Southern Pacific built the Palmdale Cutoff and West Colton yard and shutdown their Taylor Yard in LA (Parts of Taylor yard are used for the modern Metrolink yard).

If it is TSW4, I’m wondering if add on manager will be standard across all builds.

I’d guess it will be as it wouldn’t make a lot of sense to have 2 different code bases for a ‘new game’.

maybe as some have suggested that information was purposely put there to troll us. As as said before seems like a lot of resources for not much payoff with services. If is is true ,at least I have the NYT timetable to look forward too when it finally releases

Yes. There should be room for UP freight services. Also saw a video with a Metrolink passenger service powered by a BNSF loco.

IMHO one of the strong points of this route is you can have passenger and freight services (if you own the BNSF and UP routes from TSW3, which is good from DTGs perspective).

Even if it is the Antelope Valley Line, I can find freight being a problem to this route as well. A double stacks with 6-axle units (betting on another ACe or SD40 if so) is something I do see not driving a lot of because of this, let alone a short stretch run of a local as mentioned, even if it's subbed or layered in from Cajon Pass or Sherman Hill.

That was for a short period due to a grade crossing crash involving one of Metrolinks then-new Rotem Cab cars, and they were investigating issues with it. So at the time Metrolink leased about 40 AC4400CWs from BNSF to be placed in front of the cab cars for safety till the issues were resolved.

Only way it could be worth it is if we were giving alot of GOOD switching options with both LATC and the 6th Street yard.

2 and 3 are extremely unlikely. Dtg has said last gen is not being dropped any time soon and a subscription model has been shot down already and it would never work for tsw. Almost everyone would stop playing. A season pass maybe but not a subscription model you are suggesting.

  49. they need to kill 8th gen to move the game forward simple they cant be stuck in time we need a pure game once and for all the shutters have gone on long enough they cant handle the power of the routes already as they dont get anything so what is the point simple if u cant move onto the now gen then your not a true gamer simple yeah go ahead folks and cry at me truth hurts

Alright I want to link my opinions - Hate speculating like this but I want to have a little fun with this so lets go.

    1. Gen 8 isn't being dropped - we know this, also Gen 8 actually causes FAR less probelms then you may think.

    2. Same as above

    3. Jan at DTG confirmed there will be non of this - and if there was I'd presume it'd be like how it works for HOI4 (if anyone plays it) and you pay to unlock everything - Personally id rather buy the routes and keep them forever.

    4. Not going to comment on this one.

    5. I think the ECML is going to be the deluxe edition route and there will be an entire seperate UK route as the "standard" UK route. What route this is though I have no idea but I really hope its something SWT but unlikely.

    6. No comment again - But for an international route i'd rather Linz-Passau but thats just me.

    7. Oh here it is - linking to 5 I see the UK being deluxe rather then a german one but if a german one got extended I think it'd be DRA up to Leipzig

    8. I'd love this and hope this does happen.

    9. Other then the locos we more or less know this - albeit its probably to both blackpool stations. Lets hope Burn Naze and Locos are these though.

    10. Matt would ADORE this. And I dont own Peak Forest (albeit i might grab it when its on sale when TSW4 comes out as I just got TSW3 on PS5 and ill get TSW4 on PS5 aswell so yeah)

    11. Now this is my thoughts - a lot of these ideas are good but others not so much. We will just have to wait and see I guess.
