Aren't they still just working on fixes for old DLC..... Green then red signal sequence on NTP Trains being dispatched on Red by guard. Steam with no AI sounds when moving. Etc Or hang on big announcements coming....fixes forgotten again.
I don't think the business model is based on fixing bugs. If a train can't be driven from a to b them it gets fixed. If its just a scenery or sound glitch then chances are it's going to stay. Don't forget the list of routes with bugs now growing with every release and people still ask when they are getting fixed the answer is possibly never in some cases.
That is one thing I do love about Apple ( one of many ) …every new IOS that comes out is updated totally free to your device. Most apps are updated free of charge too. With windows ( which I hate, and ever only use for TSW3 …..literally nothing else ) every new windows version that comes out, you have to pay for an upgrade.
If anything I'd love 2020s UI back. I didnt like TSW2s UI much and TSW3s UI is one of worst in any game I've played in the past 10 years, can't adapt to it a year later but have to put up with it. The only thing to me TSW3 has going for it is the new routes. I still keep TSW2 installed a year later because I rather its UI and lighting. And the old routes run better on it than TSW3. I use TSW3 just for the content that is not available on TSW2. I'd happyly retire TSW3 and jump to a new base TSW4 if that is what is coming. Provided the UI is impoved or the old one retrofitted and the new lighting is improved or dropped along with proper HDR support.
Agreed, I just bought the game, but as long as old maps are still able to be played, bring on the improvements and another version. PC versus Console crowd mentality, I believe us console players are more apt to say yes, just bring on a new game that takes advantage of new hardware—while PC players know DTG can and should just improve what’s already there as hardware iterations isn’t a sticking point.
I think this new game will be on Xbox Gamepass. After all, DTG are so money hungry that they wouldn't refuse a nice fat paycheck from Microsoft. Luckily for me, I didn’t have to buy tsw3 because it is on Xbox Gamepass and frankly I haven't bought any DLC for this game. I do recognize that DTG are a business but it's really disappointing that this company has time and time again sacrificed quality for the sake of a quick buck. TSW3 didn't bring many improvements and frankly these so called improvements didn't improve the game. The lighting during the day is way too bright. Lighting when exiting tunnels is unrealistic. Features like dynamic weather were in the engine already along with volumetric clouds. I can't see how dynamic weather is an improvement if it's constantly raining 10 minutes into a service. I don't believe TSW 4 isn't a thing considering the reliable leaks. I don't think it is necessary because I think that the DLC quality will still be inconsistent and I can't see how what will be minor improvements can justify a new game. I just hope it's a free upgrade for existing players at the very least but I wouldn't be suprised if it wasn't.
Well, there's a big difference between tweaking an operating system and writing new game content. Plus I've never had to actually pay for Windows or Windows Update. Just like Apple, the OS was included with the hardware, no doubt there was a cost involved. And a trillion dollar company hardly compares with a smallish outfit like DTG. Anyway, the way DTG prices its bundles, you really don't pay for the core game. So what's your beef?
If anything, console players should be against this, as they are gamers almost without exception and know that gamers do not require a new paid game to be updated and receive small improvements. Oh, and also, it won't take advantage of "new hardware" (TSW3 does not) as long as the decade old PS4 and Xbox one is supported, cutting them off should also upset them, as their consoles aren't supported anyway.
Why not take a cue from SCS? American truck sim has free updates to the game itself, they even remake the old cities for free that were in the base part. Yes, they do it slowly, but they don’t ask for another 40 bucks for it!
Unless your device is too old to receive the update, right? I suspect your love of Apple must be renewed every couple of years with a hardware upgrade, and that's where you contribute to the "free" iOS updates.
My experience of Apple Tech certainly where the iPad is concerned, after two years the battery barely holds any charge and it spends more time plugged in than being carried around! At that point you have little option but to buy a new one.
Irrelevant but ive owned a samsung im using for nearly 4 years now and its battery is only maybe 25% quicker drain then when I first got i so honestly yeah.
That's because SCS cares about it's customers and wants to put out good quality content which has lead to a loyal playerbase. DTG is the complete opposite of that which is why there are players that do walk away from tsw and why they get the criticism they get
My Samsung lasted a good six years before the battery started fading and I just replaced it. I still think it should have lasted longer, but I did get a good trade-in. My tablet is still going strong after 3 or 4 years of heavy use. Should electronics last longer or is there built- in obsolescence? Hard to say, batteries can't last forever, but there is some case history, if you care to Google it.
If TSW4 is a thing then it doesn't really cost the player for the core. If you like the initial 3 route bundle then the cost of the three routes adds up to less than buying them seperately, and you get the core included. If you don't like that then there'll probably be starter packs for different regions etc And if a route eventually comes out that you want, it is probable there'll be a starter pack with that route, like we saw in TSW3. I don't get the outcry here. TSW3 routes will continue to work with TSW3 as they have done. Speculatively, new routes will only work with TSW4 going forward. So if you don't fancy any of the new routes that's fine. Your existing collection will still exist. It's not going to be suddenly deleted. The only problem arises if fixes for routes you like on TSW3 are delivered for TSW4 only. But then you'll get those fixes eventually when a TSW4 starter pack is released for a route that does take your fancy. Those players still sticking it out on TSW2 are cutting their nose off to spite their face. You can't seriously tell me that not one TSW3 route takes their fancy. We've had long freight, express passenger, short stoppers. TSW4 or whatever it is, is an inevitability. Be it next month or next year its happening. It's only an outrage if they sell the core seperately and lock you out of routes you already own. They don't do that. They bundle the core with new routes. The way some people are reacting it's like DTG are going to automatically remove all your existing license keys for stuff you already own!
Steamdb also gives their current player numbers at around 13,000 as I type this, with owner estimations at 3-5 million. Compare with TSW3's players at this moment of <900 and estimated ownership of 80-110 thousand. Much higher player base = much higher revenue = much more freedom. It's also a fact that ATS's Steam rating is a full 20 points higher. How much of the higher player base is due to game quality vs how much of the quality is due to having a higher player base (people who want to drive trucks on their computer vs people who want to drive trains) is a chicken-and-egg argument that can be wielded to suit the arguer's perspective.
I know but like I stated later on on my thread, I will end up buying it to keep up to date with the newest DLCs
this is the first poll I have done in a while as I seemed to have lost that feature until I created this thread..
Because replacing the battery is such a wild notion these days. It's called "planned obsolescence" and EU are working on a law against it.
It’s not aimed at you per se. It was a general point, there are way too many meaningless polls in this forum.
The new rule was passed in June, but it takes effect in 2027. In 2027 all cellphones, tablets and consumer products in general must have replaceable batteries (new models only).
I have an iPhone 6s and I replaced the battery for $30 not that long ago. Anyway, that's a tangent. The real question is this: will TSW4 allow me to replace the battery without having to upgrade to TSW5?
I wonder if that makes things cheaper, I’ve looked into how much my replacement would be an it’s £90, Not a big fan of that price tbh. I got an IPhone 11 at 79% Battery Health, got it the year they came out, either 3 or 4 years this November though as I already own the phone it won’t help my case
True enough, but 1) even accounting for the (as last reported) 1/3 division between PC/PS/XB, and whatever the Steam/Epic division might be, it's not even close; and 2) my overall point is that it's not remotely an apples-to-apples comparison. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a post attempting to show how DTG/TSW pales in comparison to something else that was apples-to-apples.
Speaking for myself, my nose and face are fine, and it has nothing to do with TSW3 routes not taking my fancy. Over a year ago now, DTG released a patch to fix physics problems with their new SoS route. That patch also dropped a derail bug bomb across the rest of the game. I play TSW to relax, and suddenly derailing without cause an hour into a run is the opposite of relaxing. As a result, I've hardly gone into TSW since last summer except to check if a couple of subsequent patches fixed the problems (nope) and I think to help answer a user question or two. This also put me off buying TSW3, because while I certainly wouldn't expect all of a game's previous version's bugs to be fixed first, actual destruction visited just before the new release and left unaddressed afterward is a different story. (Not to mention the long-promised Preservation Crew releases, reportedly long finished but still awaiting release.) I don't believe for a second that it was deliberately done, but I still don't want to help make it financially worthwhile to sow the fields with salt in passing. I did bend on this to the extent of taking advantage of the recent Humble Bundle, because it helped a good cause. But that heavily discounted game and the lone TSW3 DLC included with it are the only money I've spent or will consider spending on TSW3 until TSW2's derail bug is finally fixed. Instead, my gaming time and money over the past year+ have gone to other games, including: Trails of Cold Steel 1-4, Trails from Zero, Trails to Azure, Trails in the Sky 1-3 Assassin's Creed: Valhalla Ghost of Tsushima Gran Turismo 7 Lego Marvel Superheroes Atari 50: Anniversary Celebration Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War Marvel's Midnight Suns Mass Effect Legendary Edition I'd have spent some time and money across the above list anyway, but I enjoyed TSW2 a great deal and spent over 400 hours in it during the year that it was playable for me. I expect TSW3 would have seen similar numbers, plus most of its routes purchased as opposed to none at all outside the Bundled one. Just my testimony in response to the above.
I don't know / I don't care at this point. If preserved Routes are carried over, I will probably highly consider the new version, but keeping the track record on fixes in mind. The game has generally improved since the beginning (2017), even with the fixes which have apparently been abandoned. Those of us who bought TSW3 would probably not have done so if it had been lower quality than TSW2. The same will apply this next time around.
I respect that. The TSW2 derail patch was a huge issue for me too. I probably wouldn't have gone over to TSW3 if it wasn't for Game Pass. I still haven't actually bought the game, though I have bought the 3 German routes after great consideration. The single greatest issue for me with TSW right now is that the dosto that comes with the 182 for RT has been broken since the launch of TSW3. It's symbolic. Everyone should take this very seriously. It's an issue that greatly affects gameplay, it's been almost a year and yet nothing has been done about it. It tells us that a route or loco can stop working at any time. So when buying from DTG you first have to ask yourself if you're ok with the content breaking 6 months or a year from now, because that's a real possibility.
Now That's Just Rude. Don't Say anything If it's going to hurt other people feelings think before you say.
so, what next year? TSW5, and so on every year?, how much real difference will there be between the years, will there be anything that just couldn't have been done with a core update to the original?
Unless they scrap everything and rebuild aspects like lighting and make major improvements etc, I don't understand why they insist on making everything separate paid purchases? What could they put in a fourth instalment that couldn't be put into the current game. Mixed reactions to the announcement of TSW 2, negative reactions to the announcement of 3 they without a doubt know how we’ll react with 4 so what's the deal? How can they convince people they’ll be enough of a difference for a purchase this time?
They don't need convincing. Half of the playerbase here are already saying they are ready to buy it when/if it releases, even though we don't know what improvements (if any) and what routes it will bring. Some people are just happy to throw away money senselessly.
I think they should focus on making tsw3 as good as it can be first, it generally runs ok for the most part but I certainly wouldn't buy it until my faith has been restored in after sales care, as in its not acceptable to release a route, take peoples money and then just leave it broken, some developers are better than others and the last couple of uk non steam routes have been ok tbf. Can't speak for steam as I haven't popped my steam cherry yet.
Place your bets on whatever it is (I refuse to call it TSW4) supporting DLSS/FSR & DX12? If not, I'd love to know what the excuse is this time. We can't keep being expected to purchase a new iteration of the game every 12 months when things like this are not getting implemented.
We are already past that point when people bought TSW2, then when they bought TSW3 again. If you don't like it, don't buy it, that's all you can do.
- Makes you wonder if people have actually looked at what they have spent on TSW, TSC, and other games too, over the years !
I am perfectly capable of spending my money how I like and when I like and on what I like. I wouldn't if I wasn't going to get enjoyment or use out of it. I am not a gamer I just basically play train simulation "games" and Football Manager and am perfectly capable of working what I can afford to spend and if I want to spend it. I don't think we need people on here "calling out" people who might be planning to spend money on TSW4 (if indeed it requires it) by saying they are idiots, or senseless or almost questioning their ability to be fiscally responsible. Just because there are some on here with a chip on their shoulder who will moan and groan about whatever comes next and refuse to purchase it, that is their business and likewise they should mind their own business as to what others do with their money. I would wager a good percentage of those who are to "sensible" to purchase it will do anyway! I don wonder why it almost seems to be a surprise to some that companies strive to make money!
I totally get that, and no offense was intended. I was responding to another post - I myself have all the TSW DLC from the last 7 years, so I'd say I'm invested in it; like you and many others, I am capable of making decisions on spending. I think people are concerned about getting their money's worth, as in buying a game where fixes are applied, especially when they are promised. I said what I did because I love the game, but also because I am a careful spender and interested in quality. So I am sorry if I offended in any way, that was unintended.
This is a key point, and it's a partial rebuttal to the "you won't lose TSW2 or TSW3, you just can't get new DLC" crowd. Those who would opt for avoiding TSW4 could very likely end up having their collections "destroyed" by a poorly QA'd "patch" that was meant for something they didn't even own. The "fix"? Upgrade!
okay fair point but how about this; TSW4 is out, you don't own it, but then there's a DLC you absolutely need but you require TSW4 for it. what would you do? buy both or resist?
Just to be clear, I don't think there is anything wrong with someone buying a lot of TSW add-ons and releases, if they are satisfied with the quality. If you enjoy it, then great, get it. But there are many people who keep buying everything like it's a chore, then wonder and complain about the subpar quality of releases. Like yeah, you keep buying garbage, you get served garbage... And I find it silly to say "I will buy TSW4 when it releases" when we don't even know what it will include. Do they really not care about what you are getting at all? Anything will do as long as it's new and shiny? One should be more careful with their money. But some people just feel the need fo senselessly pre-order new releases every time, then wonder why they get LOVE products.
I think it is prudent that if Dovetail changes their new release cadence, you should consider more carefully about purchasing each yearly upgrade. I don't see the point in buying a yearly upgrade if there is only one route that interests me that year, for example. If you skip a year, you will still get all the benefits from the previous year if and when you decide to buy it the following year.
