    {Edit - Getting Personal - Jamie}

This was a premiere application of Locotrol with Southern Railway using boxcars for the remote DPU.
Also, to go by youtube video, there still were caboose on the end of trains?

both are clearly visible in this period documentary on Saluda Grade.

Here are some more interesting videos, including an official Southern Railway training video:

Well looks like it’s time for me to brush up on that Southern Railway training video.

Obviously, if the physics and scripting of brakes are right, running trains down the grade will be real challenge ...
13000 ton unit coal trains at 100 PsI train line presssure, retainers set on the first 20 cars, insert the 'special Saluda key' to prevent a PCS trip cutting out the dynamic brakes, using the Locotrol to prevent the train from breaking apart, listen to the caboose cresting the mountain at the Saluda Main St crossing, reducing dynamic amps to 500 in the 11' curve, running the timing circuit at the right speed ...

TSC should be a simulation, and here is a chance to proof its concept.

Also I’m 100% prepared for the SD40-2’s to have the terrible old Kuju sounds and for the rolling stock to have the same. My recommended mods are the Krellnut wagon sounds for the rolling stock and Railworks America has a great EMD 645 series prime mover mod. I’d also browse TrainSim Community for Searchlight Simulations Nathan SOU P5’s and N&W RS5T’s.

I compare it to weathering a model train out of the box. Modding a train sim dlc the moment I get it.

Still really dumb that we have to mod 99% of DLCs just to make them enjoyable. For something that costs $40, we should expect a bug-free and realistic product right out of the box.

Another american route on which you have to drag yourself like a turtle at a speed 20-25 mph? When will there be a modern and high-speed passenger route?// (from CA for example)

This isn't the existing freeware being released on Steam, rather a full 70 mile route custom built from the ground up. We'll be showing off a lot more of the route and the detailed scenery in the coming weeks.

Is that a question relating to TSC or to the American way of Railroading (life)?

Well hopefully if I put out mod recommendations for every piece of American DLC that needs it, maybe the devs will take note and try to improve their products. Unless of course they’re so self absorbed they’re not willing to take any criticism whatsoever, no matter how constructive.

They could always reuse the F59PHI and Modify the Surfliner cars for California Cars, but DTG doesn't want to do it.

At this point I think it's pretty safe to say the devs that really need to improve their content [removed - JD - antagonistic].

This is likely another team effort from the RWA incrowd, more or less competent persons lay the track, DTM does the rolling stock and HIS the scenarios.
The photoshopped pictures look nice enough already ...
The rolling stock is the typical DTM kitbashed efforts in locomotives and Kuju cars ...

The crux of this DLC is probably the operations, crawling up the mountain, crawling down the mountain ...

The latter being the more challenging, when simulated correctly: Correct independent power and dynamic brake operation on lead engines and DPU's, train line propagation of pressure reductions in the automatic train brake, slack action (given there is emphasis on the 'roller coaster' profile.

Let's wait and see, and hope for a pleasant surprise.

At least there is always the option to run VRCs C39-8s on the route.

Well this will finally give me an excuse to purchase the NS locomotives I don’t currently have, Dash 7’s and 8’s included.

Some of y'all are some negative people..... Do realize this is a game, do realize this doesn't have to be produced, DO realize you'll don't want this to be 100% like real life because
    1. The learning curve would be insane to a common person (I actually work for the RR so I know lol)
    2. The level of detail some of you guys want would not hold up well on lower end PCs or the game itself, and it would more likely require a increase of pricing, which a lot of y'all complain about.
    3. Most people just want to start up and go

It is crazy that you all (Or some) are complaining about something with the route before its even released. If its that bad switch simulators or make your own stuff. You have the ability to mod it yourself or wait until it goes on sale, you are not forced to buy it you know lol. BUT besides that....

I am excited about the release of this route as I am native to NC and had researched this route a lot. Until I experience the route, I can't wait for the release! Looking at what's to come is interesting! I was hoping for ditch-light era locomotives to be included as the late years of Saluda had them but for the era they are aiming for it is totally fine. Hopefully this isn't the only North Carolina based line High Iron is making as there is A LOT more such as the NC-line (Greensboro, NC - Selma, NC), The Piedmont Corridor, CSX S-line (Wilmington Sub, Norlina Sub, Monroe sub, etc...), CSX A-line, Eastern rail line for Both CSX and NS, and a ton more. North Carolina is a gold mine for high speed runners and mountain climbers.

Nothing wrong with having an opinion but it should be based on facts not supposition or guesswork, that’s politics  and you have to expect (and respect) that not everyone will agree with that opinion.

The route is potentially interesting sans the big hill unless the stock is done exceptionally well. There really hasn't been good representation of NS in the game at all.

    I am also confused -
There seems to be a contradiction to me - it reads that "the route without the big hill is potentially interesting" (ok) but then "unless the stock is done exceptionally well" which means - to me - that it will not be interesting without the big hill IF the stock IS exceptionally well done.

What I am saying is that the showcase (the big hill) will only be interesting if the stock is done well. Mike's Advanced brakes are fine, but past products with those slapped onto stock core physics for dynamic brakes and power performance would let down the whole experience.

The hill is the route here. This the focal point and the challenge factor. Those who can't make it both ways will certainly find something to blame. One can always do free roam and choose any stock that tickles their fancy. There is already excellent stock available.

I appreciate Dovetail expanding the US geographic footprint! For those who are half hearted about this product - simply don't purchase it.

    one feature down already ...

    the 'special Saluda key'?
Locotrol receiver boxcars, Locotrol boxes atop the control stand of the LHF ex-Southern SD40-2's?
those very large Southern woodchips hoppers?
the innovative Southern's 'Silverside' coal gondolas?

For me the timed switch is a must-have for the route to be worth it. This route had the potential to be really unique and offer something completely different operational wise that had never been done for the game before, and...they didn't make it. Not only that, the timed switch is really what makes Saluda interesting to operate, and without it it's just another steep grade, of which we have countless in the game already.

Do I get to only pay half price for the route then? No? Then my comments are still valid.
