Just tried ES44C4 service U-LACHOU6-06 Oil train from Los Angeles to Houston 9:47. All goes fine, up until when I get to the first 2.2% gradient. In notch 8, speed is slowly dropping until wheels start slipping at 10mph. From that point, it's only getting slower until I reach a total stop. I have no clue how I should be getting a train this heavy up the gradient. It was perfect weather, so traction should be ideal. I did activate the banking comms so I suppose the 3 engines at the rear are also helping. What am I doing wrong? How does one keep this train moving?
No. Can't remember the exact order I did things in the startup process, but banking comms wasn't the first thing that came to mind. Is there any easy way to check if rear locomotives are also actively helping?
I have that service marked as complete (from Journey menu), don't remember having problems with it. One potential issue that comes to mind is enabling the banking comm too late, it needs to be enabled BEFORE putting in the reverser I think. It's best practice to do first enable the comm before touching anything else
You need to enable the banking Comm as the first action you do. The rear lead loco will mirror your actions, so if you put the reverser handle in, and set it to forward before enabling comms the rear Locos won't be active. If that's the case, you're currently dragging three powered down locos, as well as 12,000 tons of Oil. So not surprising you're struggling. As for checking, you can use the rear camera, and look through the window. The lead Loco at the rear should have the reverser in the same position as you, and the throttle set the same. See the reverser is set, so is the throttle. You can also look at the screen, and see how much force is being applied.
Thanks for the help all. I'm now retrying the service. Your posts help me understand how the banking comms work. Instead of copying the state of the locomotive, it copies inputs, correct? I have the idea I'm noticing an increase of power now the second try of this service, but I won't be sure until I reach the 2.2% gradient. Should take a few minutes to get there
Thanks guys! I'm now going up the 2.2% gradient at steady 20mph. Now I can continue the journey over the Cajon Pass. It'll take a while.
Banking Comms needs to be the first thing you activate before anything else otherwise you will end going nowhere fast and coming to a dead stop.
How'd your run end up going? I started the same one after you made this thread just to make sure it was working, had a good run.
I really don’t know why banking comms isn’t on by default, particularly as the game rarely prompts you to engage it. IMHO TSW needs a quick start pop up box like Run 8 has when you click on the lead loco, to set all switches and DPU function with a couple of mouse clicks.
I usually just look for an exhaust plume from all locos to make sure they're under power. Well, don't want to make it too simple, otherwise it'll be just like driving an electrostar.
A warning of incorrect setup would've been appreciated. Much like the game has HUD helps for PZB. Something that doesn't fix it for you, but at least points out what you've done wrong.
OK, so I am on PC and turned on Banking Comms (in real life it is far more complex but it would be set up for the crew to take it out anyway) and had no issues. 20mph up the hill. That is flying up there but I guess with the amount of locomotives it is little wonder. The scenery is amazing. Coming from Train Sim Classic, which wa good in the day, the scenery in Train Sim World is gorgeous.
Yes a Comprehensive Train Sim World guide full of tips and tricks would be handy. And this game is constantly being patched and fixed. So put a guide out and you might get an update..... But good job for bringing it to our attention. Maybe you can put the issue into Technical Reports forum.
If the banking comm is off they are paperweights at the back of the train. You won’t make it up to summit with them off
It depends on the train. I’ve been doing runs on Sherman hill lst couple days. Took an empty coal wb and was doing 55 with no helpers. 100 car mixed freight with 4 in the front and two in the back was doing 15
I love slow runs uphill. You feel you are earning your money then. Too many locos its high speed then it is a hot shot... hot freight etc. I'll have to try the mixed freight seems good fun.
If nothing else it’s realistic. I like the variety. I did the next service last night. It was an auto rack run eb. I must have been empty because i didn’t even airbrakes coming down the slope. After I met the aforementioned mixed freight (the ai wasn’t going much faster) there was a nice parade of wb trains behind him.
You can see the weight and length in Overview in the menu: Sounds like it was empty, what time was the service?
Yea it does I didn’t look at it but it was obvious I was light based on the way it drove. These were all between 5-6am
