I think the forums would absolutely be set ablaze if ECML came, and it was for Steam lol.

For me ECML era wise it would be Deltics, now, GNER, then steam. I love the LNER steam locos but I don't really remember them to have a connection with them, that and you would need at least 5 classes to get the minimum required service pattern.

Originally it was announced that all three routes would be released together for £24.99 for all three. However the routes were delayed and the price was increased to £34.99 to be the season pass we got. It also cut back Dresden significantly which angered a lot of people on the forums although they did add the Reigate extension to the Brighton Main Line (although based on how badly they did it I wish they hadn't) and a team made the Meissen branch in their own time as a later release.

And it took almost 2 years and the arrival of Acela to sort out the signalling on BPE.

Plus we never have gotten rush hour passenger density on BML

Still it turned out to be a decent package eventually.

The earliest the ECML can go back is the 1990s without triggering a few people

I don't think so. For TSW3 which is the current game and the pack is launching on Thursday it would be a pentadecagon DB

I guess they could...... wouldn't be able to use the 700 which would defeat the purpose to just bring it for one route SEHS.

    More like under protest..!

Still think ECML could be a really good steam/diesel transition route with a Deltic and A3 Pacific plus various other existing traction layered in. Just need a Cravens DMU for the local services and some non corridor BR coaches for the Moorgate peak trains!

Definitely. There will be a LOT of disappointed people if they do a route in an older period.

Kingscross-Peterborough definitely needs to be modern with the 800 included. I do want the Deltic as a railtour DLC though. Or another section of the ECML in that period.

There will also be a LOT of happy people if they do a route in an older period.

Swings and roundabouts mate, swings and roundabouts.

There will definitely be more annoyed/upset people if they do it in an older period. There's a reason DTG haven't exactly done many Diesel routes since NTP and TVL. The gen 1 BR diesels are cool vehicles, but they're not as popular as more modern stuff. If they were, they would have been churning out more vintage routes. That hasn't been the case. You can even see it in the suggestions forum. Most of the suggestions for UK routes are modern.

I'd bet good money a lot of the player base aren't even old enough to have seen any of them in action, and certainly not in widespread use. So there isn't the nostalgia effect on them for those people.

Like I say swings and roundabouts, is the only way the era debate can be solved without pitchforks and so DTG should offer something to everyone. The recent tier list thread shows that there are still a lot of people who rate NTP and TVL highly.

I'm one of them, I really like TVL and NTP. Wish the routes would get an update to the modern lighting, bugfixes, and an extension. I'm also looking forward to the JT route.
But I still don't want the first release of ECML to be BR Diesels.

I'd honestly love if they released three versions of it. Steam, BR and Modern (with the required changes). I'd buy all three for full price, as I'm sure several people would.
But people would likely complain about variety then, but I think it's iconic enough a route to warrant it.

I’m guilty of that, I still have Tees Valley in my top three :) Class 800 does look might cool though, I wouldn’t not buy it if it came to TSW. Oh, decisions, decisions electric, diesel, the only thing I’m sure of is I don’t do steam ! ;)

Yes this would be a good way to do it, so then there is something for everyone and it can be spread across three differnt BR regions if people want more variety.

They are very good routes. I know what I have said above but as I said in a thread the other day (or to be more accurate this thread yesterday!) I love my 800s/ 801s to the moon and back and it would be great to see them in game because they are fabulous pieces of rolling stock which, although nowhere near as demanding as a BR Diesel, are much more satisfying to drive than an Electrostar or Networker for example. I also agree on steam as not only was it something I don't really remember, but also to create a somewhere near believable ECML route in the steam days would require 5 different classes as a minimum and anything less would probably be a shambles.

I honestly just want a route with the Class 800 in the game. All the routes after that can be BR diesel after that and I'd still be happy lol. It's the only reason I still occasionally go back to TSC.

On the note of steam, currently on Peak Forest while reading this:

I was hoping you would say no as I would like to play Peak Forest on the Xbox but the head out problem is keeping the steam locos on the PC, which I admittedly need to update! I shall go and ask my question in the proper place!

In regards to the era problem. I think DTG need a team that specifically focuses on remaking existing routes into different eras, such as modern NTP with a 185 or GWE during the Big Four era with GWR Castles storming up the line.

They do need to do more variation with route era choices, so that everyone's happy. Releasing more modern routes than any other era is unfair on those who prefer historic stock and honestly, it's also getting boring. I'd personally much rather an ECML route be set in the days of the proper LNER with the stunning A4's in their Garter Blue splendour. Alternatively, I wouldn't say no to a BR Blue era route with the Deltics roaring along the line too. For me, the 800s are the least interesting choice in terms of rolling stock for an ECML route.

The recent focus on 90's German content has been most welcome! We need some of that historic focus on the UK content. There's still no BR Green or Intercity era content, that really needs to change :) More steam, more diesels, keep it on an equal rotation with the modern content.

That is the key thing which many people don't understand. It needs to be a more even split rather than everything in one particular era. Wise words mate, wise words.

I guess I’m gonna list my own hopes and expectations here:

    • I really don’t think they would release a fully separate new title behind a paywall, like the TSW2 -> 3 transition. It’s not even been a year, and TSW3 still feels like it’s just started out. There’s lots of potential and lots of things to fix. Previously, there have always been at least two years between TSW franchise releases.
    • They might do some sort of re-release, like they did with TS Classic for the past few years. Change the name of the game, provide a free core update (or free separate game) to all existing players along with a paid bundle of routes similar to Rush Hour.
    • If we follow that theory, what bundle could we be getting? Surely not an era or country-specific one. The respective player bases are simply too small for that, the bundle needs to have something for everyone.

Best case scenario: Free core update for everyone, route bundle with two new ones and one extension. Fan favorite locations and trains, unique new core and route features.

Worst case scenario: TSW4 is a completely separate game everyone will have to buy, with just a few gimmick features and no groundbreaking core additions. TSW3 remains in a broken state, and the cycle repeats each year. (I really really hope this won’t happen!)

Its definitely an annoying issue but I've found if you use the camera shift (right stick?) and click the right d pad a few times head out the 'official' head out view works pretty nicely and the driver doesn't morph into the camera its just a little faff and slightly immersion breaking. :)

Yes, a lovely loco with a lovely bark up to about 25-30mph. Would be great to see it more widely used on both PFR and SoS.

Regarding the period for ECML, I not only want it to be modern because of my preferences, but because they'd really be making life harder for themselves if they didn't.

In theory, DTG could already make a pretty decent ECML with trains that are already in the game. If they set it in 2019, they already have the HST, 700, 387 and even 313. It would be such a waste if they set it in any other period.

Also, if we do get a modern ECML they better bring back the MTU HST for it. I'm worried they'll rigidly stick to a present day setting as an excuse not to layer it in. I'd expect the 800 as the flagship for the route, and about time it came to TSW too, but my heart is crying out for an IC225.

They should make more categories. Now it's US, UK, GER, .. they also should make series: Freight and Passengers. These also should get 2 subcategories Vintage and Modern day. This would make Quick Play a much handier feature.

I second this! Plus an option to disable scenarios and tutorials.

The only problem is that the new routes from TSW3 have wrong category in the filter.
    Luzern-Sursee is under "Germany" category
PFR, LRS, IoW2022, and BRO are all in the "Other" category

Not necessarily.....remember when TSW2 moved to UE4.26 alongside Rush Hour, it required all previous DLC to be rebaked to this new version

We could be seeing a similar thing happen here with some features borrowed from UE5 to make some kind of UE4/UE5 hybrid requiring everything to be rebaked again. Its not cut and dry that we are getting a new game just based on that info

From a commercial point of view, now they're getting more DLC catalogue in place and new third party developers coming on board, having a proportion of the player base not on the 'latest' version of the game (ie TSW3 currently) means they're not going to be a potential customer for TSW3-only routes/locos.

So I wonder if now is the time they move away from paid numbered updates and switch to the TSC model, where everybody is upgraded to the latest version of the core game, meaning everybody who ever purchased TSWx is a potential customer for each new DLC that comes along.

It's the classic razors/razor blades approach, and while until now the DLC catalogue hasn't been extensive enough to fund ongoing operations alone, perhaps that tipping point has been reached.

Further, that could have been the carrot that finally attracted the new developers, such as JT and UW to sign up for making TSW DLC - because if I were a third-party dev I'd absolutely want the biggest possible audience for my products, in order to push the highest possible attach rate.

Just looking at the holding slide on YouTube - note that it doesn't mention a number. Maybe it's just because they obviously don't want to signpost towards a TSW4 or whatever... but what if it's instead pointing towards an end to the numbered versions and onto a persistent core base game just called "Train Sim World" (aligning to the "Train Sim Classic" wording and business model)??

DLC102 Epic DB turned out to be norfolk southern heritage pack. So the labels within didn't mean anything. Nothing is certain until is officially announced. Luckly we only have 12 more days to find out.
