Today I'm suggesting the flying scotsman for tsw 3. With the leak of ECML due to come I thought this would be a perfect add on.

The Flying Scotsman was built in 1923 as 1472 'Great Northern' which was later rebranded into 4472 'Flying Scotsman' and then 60103 as we know it Today. Flying Scotsman is capable hitting 100 mph when pushed to the limit. The pack will include from Kings Cross to York or where ever the dlc runs to and from. It would of course be crucial for it to be in LNER Apple Green as BR Green. Thanks for reading.

Yes I like this suggestion a lot mate and if I have understood anything from the nonsense codey stuff from the leaks, this could well be happening. I don't usually feel much for steam but ever since the first time Scotsman bombed past me whilst I stood on a fence in a field just outside the village where I lived I have always wanted to have a go on the regulator. To do that on the ECML in TSW would be excellent! Great suggestion mate which could be becoming a reality!

Hopefully we will find out in just over two weeks…
The only issue with adding 4472 to the game is that it’s another “big” engine, joining the Jubilee and 8F at the upper end of the traction scale. Something like a B1, B12 or even V2 would have a wider application looking ahead to actual LNER/BR(E or NE) routes making it into the game.

Look on the bright side Vern, if a Flying Scotsman railtour pack is indeed coming, it may include something that that most steam railtours have irl, a buffet car!

Maybe but we can always hope.

But in all seriousness though, Flying Scotsman would be a cool train to have in Tsw not least because of the overall hype in would generate but also because of it's replayability factor, Flying Scotsman operates railtour services all across the UK (except Northern Ireland) and therefore has brilliant layering potential for future UK route dlc's.

Good suggestion! Based on leaks, this will be coming to TSW! So, can't wait!

If a buffet car does come, I’ll be disappointed if there’s no public shoutout for you, OldVern :D

where did you get this infomation? Flying Scotsman and Great Northern were two engines of the same class. Yes, FS was orginally given the number of 1472 in 1923 and was renumbered to 4472 later on but she has only had one name which is Flying Scotsman.

I am really hoping that this pack is not just steam locomotive 4472, which would be fantastic, but also the Class 55 Deltic diesel electric locomotives and Class 91 Electra IC225 sets. Otherwise it isn't really a pack.

I agree, I’ll add in the 800 for good measure of consideration also. :)

my issue is the scenery, having all the eras of ECML is great but on one route is going to make the scenery a wild thing, starts running into the issues of Diesel Legends GWE very quickly then.

Probably other trains are just for railtours.
P.S: class 800 is gotta be a base train otherwise the forums with get bombarded with requests by yours truly! ;)

    (I'm joking dtg. Don't worry)

The title doesn't really tell us what the pack will contain. It is 100 years of 4472, hence Centenary pack. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

It'll most likely just contain the Flying Scotsman with some railtour services like the Tsc version did.

I would imagine that Ecml South will be a new base route (hopefully) with the Flying Scotsman being a dlc.

Like I said, 4472 alone is not a "Pack",. To do the centenary justice it really must contain 4472, Class 55 and 91 with Class 800 in the base route. This would truly reflect the evolution of the Flying Scotsman service during the last 100 years.

Realistically though, we are not going to get that many new trains at once.

The centenary edition is more likely just celebrating the 100th anniversary of Flying Scotsman (so more likely 60103, not 4472) as opposed to the evolution of Flying Scotsman.

I do agree with what you say but a pack could be a Loco (F Scotsman), coaches and some scenarios in DTG terms.

No Deltic or Electra locomotives would be a massive missed opportunity, especially if DTG like making a profit. If we got ECML South with Class 800 as the base locomotive as well as 4472, Class 55 and Class 91, I would gladly buy it in a heartbeat. Without Deltics and Class 91s I'd have to merely think about it as these were/are iconic types. However, based on the limitations of types in recent releases, I guess that you may well be correct that we won't get them. Time alone will tell.

In case anyone is interested -
"Flying Scotsman" and "Great Northern" were not the same loco. "Great Northern" was built in 1922 and "Flying Scotsman" in 1923. They were both built as members of the A1 class, with 180psi boilers, 20 inch diameter cylinders and a tractive effort of 29,835 lbs. In 1928 Gresley produced the A3 class, this was a development of the A1 with 220psi boilers, 19 inch cylinders and a TE of 32,910lbs. Gresley started converting the A1s to A3s, but the A1s were still good locos, so there was no hurry. "Flying Scotsman" was converted to an A3. "Great Northern" had not been converted when Edward Thompson took over. In 1945 Thompson modified "Great Northern" with a 250psi boiler and a third set of Walschaert valve gear for the inside cylinder (instead of Gresley's system of derived motion). The TE increased to 37,400lbs. Thompson wanted his design to be the A1, so he reclassified the remaining Gresley A1s as A10. When Arthur Peppercorn replaced Edward Thompson, he further modified Thompson's design and called HIS design the A1. "Great Northern" was reclassified A1/1, and remained the only A1/1 until it was scrapped in 1963.

This year is also the centenary of "Caerphilly Castle". It is not as well known as "Flying Scotsman", but perhaps a centenary DLC could honour both locos.
