    Streamlined gems I'll have you know! First one's from the Deutsche Reichsbahn, second is from the Pennsylvania Railroad, Third, well pretty self explanatory, a massive steam turbine. Most steam engines just do not excite me at all. Clunky chunky pieces cobbled together. Garratts & Gresleys look pretty good though.

    I thought exactly the same but then understood when I remembered Greyweasel is the one who is attracted to 460s! ;)

    I’ll throw in my hat. I know she’s not to everyone’s taste, but to me, the PRR T1 is one of the most beautiful machines ever built.

    Urk. It looks like a set from a 1930s Flash Gordon B-movie.

    Aw you know it's great deep down. That's why it lives in my sig. :cool:

    Indeed, even more rad they're building a new one! I Look forward to the day it's finished.

    I mean how could you not!

    Meanwhile here's another steam engine I quite fancy.

    The SR Leader class built in 1946. I mean it's career was short, scrapped in '51. This painting was done in '49 as far as I can tell and probably embellished, since there's no photos of it in that livery. I read the fireman's compartment could reach reach 40-50°C so they probably didn't close the door.

    A real shame that M1 never saw service in it's intended role...
    Would've been a magnificent site !

    I agree the Leader class was fancy but hell for the fireman and if the tipped over on the left side they would be stuck because of only one door on the left side

    Changing the pace a little, I'll throw in my favourite Underground stock. The 1992 Stock.

    [IMG]
    And by extension the 2009 Stock cause it's like an updated version of the 92. Still got the same charm, tall vertical sides, softened but ridged edges and a satisfying steady 'machine' look to them.

    Not outdated. Scotrail use them on my local line.

    380's are more iconic and far better looking than 385's! 385's just look more modern.

    Easy! If we are keeping modern than all I must say is Azuma and Electra, if we are going all time I say Peak and Deltic.

    I don't much like the front of the 380s, they are good looking otherwise.

    The 156s are definitely not as good as the 158s though.

    Preach it! I did a thing for it in page 3.
    No way, Sprinter stock are dependable steady classics, no weird frills of 'modern design' (or ironing board seats), the 158 is the ultimate attractive evolution of the concept of course.

    Agreed! Sprinters are beautiful classics! And the 156 engine has a great big Roar when you accelerate. Class 158's have a nicer interior cause automatic saloon doors and no iron board seats.

    Well yes, but I also love these pieces of traction. The ECML just happens to have these superior pieces of traction run over it at some point! ;)

    I dread to think what you're mrs looks like then! I have passed it easily.

    I don't think there is a single loco/ unit in service right now that looks better than the 801s. Going on looks alone, I actually can't think of something to top them.

    The ICE 3 yes, (though the Sapsan is still the best version imo). But the Acela? Nah, it's like a less appealing version of the HHP-8, doesn't really suit that livery, and the carriages don't compare to the Amfleets.

    Now if it looked closer to the original concepts, I'd be more interested;

    The new Airo sets look pretty sharp, I will say.

    Here's on of my favs from Spain, the Renfe 269-604-5. I'm not certain of the whole story, given language differences and mistranslations, but I think this model is wholly unique, as Renfe only gave one of their 4 sub class 269.6s the new body shell in the late 80s and stopped the update program as it was too costly to update the others? (the sub class was a test bed anyway apparently). Either way I also think this one still serves as a charter locomotive in preservation under the Madrid Railway Enthusiasts Association.

    I am just having my cocoa before going off to bed and I thought I'd just have one look on here and now I am going to be having nightmares being left with that. At least it has a yellow front though!

    Oh pish, it's not that bad! lol It's like a yellow pill box on rails, makes me like it even more.

    Now if we're talking SBB, the RABe 501 is very nice;
    upload_2023-8-17_1-14-36.png
    That RABe 503 before is ugly compared to this. As you can see (Though the backdrop in Ewan's post is stunning);
    [IMG]
    Not forgetting the handsome predecessor, the RABe 500, swept little face that isn't too long. Plus that livery is rather dashing;

    And there’s even some units equipped with brushes on front lateral guide-wheels to remove small debris and snow on aerial sections, you can see the brush on the MP05 (blue) and MP89 (yellow)

    The ACS-64 is a favorite of mine. I've always liked the look of German electrics, and this is the closest thing we have to them here in the U.S.

    My favourite would be this NZR DA Class, absolutely beautifull, and made even better with this lovely livery.

    The DB Class 105, by Talgo.
    that's the locomotive for the new ICE L built by Talgo for Deutsche Bahn
    I wonder what it sounds like though.
    but it looks pretty neat, right? definetly modern rail art!

    It's nicer than most modern DB locos imo.
    [IMG]
    Though I'll take the GE E60 in Phase 2 any day.

    While that design isn't the worst, I'd of preferred this one Talgo also came up with.
    [IMG]
    The control car certainly looks better than what DB went with that's for sure. I don't know what it is about these central Euro manufacturers and their obsession with two tiered & or uneven windows on things that aren't double decker, it's a crime against design!
