This route would be really good if DTG actually tried.

    The route:

The route runs from York, through Thirsk, Northallerton, Darlington, Durham, Chester le street and then Newcastle.

One, or multiple of the York yards could be utilised, running from York Yard to Tyne Yard, or York to Newcastle for freight services not terminating at either of the Yards.

York National Railway Museum would be a cool addition and would be used for railtours.

    The trains:

There is a large variety of trains that run on this route. Most of which are class 80x IETs.

LNER class 800/801 - The LNER azuma would have to be included in the route, it could be the all electric class 801 or the bi mode class 800
    IMG_3380.jpeg

Transpennine express class 802 - This could be used and would work well on this route. TPE additionally calls at Chester le street, Northallerton and sometimes Thirsk.

Cross country class 221/220 voyager - I am yet to find a difference between the two trains. They run services from Scotland to the south. They are entirely diesel and are capable of speeds up to 125mph
    IMG_3254.jpeg
Grand Central class 180 adelante - This train only runs on the line to Northallerton where it takes the Stockton cut to Middlesbrough, this is the same with the TPE class 185. I don’t think that these two trains would be a priority but if dovetail were feeling extra generous then maybe.

    Layers:

Class 66 - Well obviously, this layers onto every route, doing the same thing, rhtt and a few freight services. There is quite a bit of freight on this route so the class 66 in a new livery such as drs, Freightliner or GBRf could come included with the route

Heritage diesel locos - Class 47, Class 40, Class 20, class 37. These locos would all have their own railtour layers with either mk1 or mk2 coaches

8F/Jubilee - These locos would have railtours tnt with class 47s or 37s

Class 37 - Aswell as the railtour, the class 37 would operate infrequent freight empties.

    Future dlc:

A freight loco such as the class 70 could be used as a dlc for this route. The class 70 pulls oil trains from Jarrow and Dirt trains from somewhere (I don’t know). Whenever I go spotting on this route there always seems to be a class 70 out and about. IMG_3474.jpeg

I did take into account that the route could have been set in 2016 or around that time when class 91s and HSTs still roamed the rails on the ecml, however we only have one actually modern day route, that being Scotrail express.

I also took into account that the route could have been Newcastle to Edinburgh. I will make a separate suggestion. Hopefully one day we could get a York to Edinburgh route but I think that is a bit much to ask.

Thanks for reading my suggestion for this route, if you have anything to add leave a comment!

It’s unique because everyone thinks it’s something like KingsCross to Peterborough but it would be lovely to see something like this for TSW4

ECML needs to be set in the 1970s-80s with Class 55 Deltics, Class 37s, and Class 47s.

Honestly though it's a good idea. Something I could definitely see being pulled off for tsw.

I really like this suggestion! Love all the rolling stock and it's a really good mainline! I would prefer it as suggested modern day that way I can drive the trains I see day to day. But ethier way it's a brilliant route. Good suggestion!

Would be nice to see the Azuma's in game so I agree with the modern day part.

Btw the 221 is a super voyager and can tilt where as the 220 can't.

Forgot to add the cross country HST, it would be an absolutely legendary addition.

yeah that's true, but crosscountry 221s have their tilts disabled to reduce costs, not to say that it couldn't be activated in tsw :D

Got a slight tickle there mate?;)

As I have said elsewhere I love my Azumas to the moon and back but I love the Deltics more! This section in the 70s/80s would also enable the 45/1s to be used on XC services and 31s and, oh it would be brilliant!

    It most certainly does not.
It needs to be set in the present day, when we can get all the different liveries.

Why? I think a BR era would appeal more as we haven't had a BR route since NTP & TVL.

BR era doesn't appeal to more people. It doesn't sell as well as more modern offerings. Having the first introduction section of such a big route as ECML be relegated to early BR era would be massively wasted potential.

We haven’t had another one as they obviously don’t sell well. And dtg only make routes for money

Yep... TSC was better... or atleast was with its payware choices back in the day...

To be fair third party payware is usually hit or miss. ATS and AP, pricy but good quality, AHS and JT, not so much.

In my opinion its just a case of relizing atleast there adding stuff to the game. Scenario planner, no matter how horrendous it is, does exist. Look at people like matt#4801 and TrainGeek08 they make good backdated scenarios every now an again for modern routes for BR. Just... take stuff as it comes in my opinions.

l will just direct those saying BR routes don't sell well to my previous comments as it is a hypothesis and not fact.

Sorry to reply twice but I would also just like to say I wouldn't want every route to be BR era but I also don't want every route in the modern era. To me ECML Kings Cross to Peterborough would make most sense modern due to the layers from modern routes existing already and York to Newcastle would make most sense in the 70s/80s where we could have plenty of layers from previous 80s routes. Then we get two busy more representative routes compared to a something barebones because we only get an Azuma. Only having an 801 on this section would be a massive under representation and be a barebones timetable.

Variety is key along with catering for the widest possible audience.
