Referring of course to the big reveal next Tuesday. Early afternoon is going to see a significant number of people not being able to tune in “live”. Many will be at work or off out doing something (we normally go for a drive and a walk after lunch). In the US it will either be 0800 in the morning in the east or still the middle of the night on the west coast. I can only assume because they wanted the Ambassadors and Streamers there it had to be day time rather than an evening event. However most of the customer base is going to end up watching recorded highlights or simply picking the meat from the bones of what gets posted on the forums.
Is it actually a live stream or a pre-record? Maybe the time is so the servers can cope with the fume factor when it isn’t actually what people thought or hasn’t got what they’d like!
Seems a little cruel. Also last year dtg had almost 3K viewers watching, wouldn't they want the stream income?
To enable it to go without a hitch I would think it will be prerecorded. The last thing we need is the first ten minutes of the stream being taken up sorting out the audio issues and the whole thing having the sound and pictures out of sync. Matt usually ends up looking like a bad ventriloquist’s dummy on recent streams. I could be wrong about that but I’m thinking of how TSW3 was launched with a studio produced video rather than an actual live event. Judging by the news of ambassadors visiting the office, I reckon that would have been for filming inserts, or the whole thing was recorded at that time, to give time for the editing. 2pm BST may seem like an odd time for a ‘stream’ but other than the madness of the live chat, it won’t be any different watching it on catchup than watching it live. Anyone with a day job can watch it when they get home. If they are at work, they won’t be looking at the forums for any spoilers either, or at least they shouldn’t be. Other pastimes, like a walk or a drive, could easily be cancelled or postponed for one day if watching ‘live’ is important. This may be the perfect day to pull a sickie. The best fake symptom to use is ‘the runs’ as nobody will try and persuade you to come in.
My wife will not be persuaded to forgo her afternoon walk in my stimulating (!) company for a train sim presentation… So I will be amongst those picking up the pieces later.
This reminds me of the time that the Police near me did a community meeting in order to try and address the concerns people were having with the slightly less wholesome members of society but did it at 12 noon mid week so no one could attend
Im on days off. Ill try and take notes to feed back in as dry and factual a way as possible... if I remember.
I think the key factors are going to be: Details of the three (four?) new routes and accompanying locos/stock. Bundle information and pricing. If TSW4 (or not) what improvements and core bugfixes will it bring to the table.
Gamescom Opening Night Live is 7pm (UK) same day, so gives people who are into the wider gaming ecosystem the opportunity to watch at their leisure before the watching that big live show
Have a thought for us Aussies then....11pm on a week night. Zero chance I'll be watching it live so I'll just be catching up with all the news Wed morning
It is bad for me. I am traveling that day and probably won't be able to watch it before 3 or 4 p, EDT, which is 6 - 7 hours post stream. Can you just imagine how long the post stream forum posts will be by that time.
And I suggest you pay no notice of them. I've had more than one game ruined in such a way that I otherwise would have been fine with. Having people point out problems you wouldn't have otherwise noticed isn't always helpful.
Perfect time for me here in the Midwest- 8am. I don't usually bother with live streams, I like to cherry- pick later, but I'll make an exception for this one. I can watch it with my breakfast. In peace, the wife will be at her aqua yoga.
Honestly DTGs streams are 15% content & 85% filler/blabbering anyway, will likely save yourself a lot of time by being able to skip through the fat & get the meat of it.
You're not wrong, but this one might be better, simply because they have more info to impart. Of course, they also have more time in the middle of the day to tittle- tattle.
Right? Personally i love it- it'll be 9am my time. I can wake up and get the new TSW4 info without having to actually watch it lol.
It’s the perfect time. Gives the forum 4 hours to pick it apart before I finish work. Saves me having to watch it, all I’ll need to do is click the New Posts button and I’ll pretty much know everything I need to.
I'm looking forward to it and I hope you guys are looking forward also? Of course there are going to be people that will not like it, but you're not going to please everyone I suppose. Hentis
its a great time because its late still here in Australia 11pm start but its not 4am like normal so its 100% way better that's the time i normal do few uploaded videos of my simulation for the next day so ill take that time to watch this
My guess is that they know whatever it is is likely to be announced later that day, or perhaps even at the same time, and they want to get their announcement/take in first. No evidence whatsoever for this other than the coincidence of Gamescon starting the same day.
You will never please everyone, and trying to is pointless. Looking forward to seeing what's coming. Will be at work, but RHIP.
I suspect the reason for this is that the pre-order is scheduled to go live at 5pm GMT (according to the Epic files) - you'll notice this is the same time that DLC normally releases as there's maximum store-side support at this hour in case of issues. As such, they'll want to do the big announcement just before the pre-order goes live, so 1pm makes sense (assuming that the stream itself is at least 90 mins to a couple of hours long, and allowing for any issues). Also, I think it's almost certainly pre-recorded given that it will likely feature JD and he's not back from holiday until the 22nd. I doubt very much that he'd be sat down in front of the cameras for DTG's biggest livestream of the year four hours back into the office from Barbados or wherever he's jetted off to for his summer hols!
Definitely an odd time, especially in prime summer vacation period, my boss is on leave & Ive a meeting I cant move so like many wont be able to watch live.
That is an odd time, but I guess it's not fair to expect them to work past 5pm either. Guess I'm taking my lunch break at 2pm on Tuesday then.
Tuesday is my "mandatory optional overtime" day, so I guess I'll just avoid the forums until I get some free time to watch the stream. The timing is quite a bit unfortunate, but it is what it is.
I may be wrong but arent DLC available around 6pm ? Maybe DTG just want a bit of time for setting up the preoders ?
Touche. Similarly all the schools are currently on their summer breaks so you kiddies don't miss out!
Considering the fact that 99% of all things game or sports related are heavily weighted against our time zone; I think we are entitled to have that one without the payback
It's simple, you have a contract that states you have to work for 8 hours a day and you agree to any and all occasional and optional overtime. Then you get 10+ hours of your own work that has to be finished in the same day plus you have to fill in for a colleague who is out of office.
Surely if your contract states you have to accept all "optional" overtime, then by definition it's not Optional? Is this a weird US employment thing? As for the second bit, I feel that. I'm always trying to get my own work done, while colleagues keep trying to drag me into 2 hour meetings that could just be a simple email. So always playing catchup on my own work.
Nah, it's an automotive corporate thing. The lines cannot stop and you have to do everything. This includes calls in the middle of the night and on weekends.
I remember when I was working for one of the UK TOC’s as a Control Duty Manager. We had been making spurious enquiries about something better than the old BR MS terms and conditions. What we got was a contract with a flat salary and a non pensionable bolt on in return for being expected to work up to 7 occasions of overtime in a 3 month period, which might be extending to 12 hours or working a rest day plus no extra Sunday or night rate. The following year, to fund a meagre pay rise they took 4 days annual leave off us and introduced a requirement to work an “event” day for no extra pay. No wonder I subsequently jumped ship to Network Rail where a more conventional working arrangement was in place as it was a none management role. Now happily retired. Sorry for OT ramble!
It took me a while to learn that the forum was spoiling enjoyment of the DLC's that were being released. The only true way to judge a route is to watch gameplay videos and see for yourself whether it is something you would be interested in and to what extent any bugs would spoil it for you.
There are certain posters who you can set your clock by when it comes to reliable reviews, one way or the other (no names, no pack drill). Two examples of don’t believe what you read are Lubeck to Hamburg which I quite enjoy and LIRR especially with the M3 which I actually prefer slightly over Harlem.
Makes no odds for me, I generally watch roadmaps and route previews on a Thursday evening as that's my chill out night knowing the weekend is almost upon us, I crack open a couple of cold ones and watch. Won't be any different this week, I'll just stay away from the forums on Tuesday and Wednesday so I don't get to know what announcements are made before I watch the stream.
Maybe there is a Sydney route after all...... Very excited!!! Japan is same time zone essentially as Australia too...... This will be epic!!!
