Even if you are not planning to preorder what would change your mind and make it an instant buy?

You can only choose one feature, no route.

Real ingame tutorial and not "move forward". No I don't know how KVB work, no I didn't know how PZB work, neither for AWS and TPWS.
I want a real tutorail. A basic tutorial "move forward" and then another one with more details.
Like for the DB BR 103 ! How I'm supposed to know that the switches for the safety systems are on the other cab. A single line of text could help. True and interactive tutorial are really a missing feature in TSW. (+Manuals even with 100 pages)

Nothing, I’m waiting for reviews, I learned that lesson the hard way. Even if there is a discount it’s not worth it due to the inflated foreign currency price.

A feature that might make me get it if the initial reports are good is a decent scenario editor.

I’ll probably get it eventually if I like the routes. Just not a pre order - It’s not like it will sell out.

I think the answer from me is that there would have to be something fundamentally wrong or different for me not to preorder, based on the leaked information so far.

I forgot about game pass. Although I’ve gone back to Steam because of wanting to use mods. I still have game pass, so will hopefully try it there first.

I’m happy with TSW3 so will wait and see what the reviews are like before diving in. Although, saying that I said I wouldn’t buy Glossop but on the day of release out came my wallet! :)

I would consider preordering TSW4 if they introduce random events in timetable mode.
Otherwise I will stick with TSW3 for one year or more (like I did with TSW2) and buy TSW4 in the next Humblebundle package for almost nothing.

Being a dedicated TSW player, I will be buying it at the very first opportunity, whatever it contains. I would still like major improvements in many areas though. Having said that, I can’t think of one new feature that its omission would make me not buy it, so it is a strange concept to me that players would be playing TSW3 but not want TSW4 unless it had a specific new feature that isn’t in TSW3.

This. Effectively as soon as TSW4 comes out (unless of course they are moving to a free core update) TSW3 will be on the slow train to abandonware. So you might as well just bite the bullet and move forward.

For me it would be an overhauled scenario creator. I think the one main thing I'd like from the overhaul would be the ability to import the route's core timetable, and then add my own services, or perhaps substitute one of the existing services with my own. Basically I just want to be able to quickly plonk any old train on any old route, and not have to spend an hour setting up all the extra services so that it's not an empty run!

Absolutely, we've witnessed it with our very eyes under TSW2. DTG, "we're awaiting a window to release" blah blah blah, never happened and it will be just the same with TSW3, the bugs will forever remain and gather dust in 3 once a new shiny version 4 is out.

As a rule I don't preorder anyways, so probably not fair for me to answer. However, I am seriously considering breaking my rule to preorder Starfield. So, I suppose there must be something that would cause me to preorder TSW4, but it would probably be something that DTG is extremely unlikely to do, like a deep discount. Even then, I imagine TSW4 will be presenting new features, and if history is any guide these could have a negative effect not just on new DLC, but also on your existing content.

I might not even buy TSW4 at all. So, it's hard to imagine what might cause me to preorder it. Interesting question.

I feel like I have to buy tsw4, otherwise I along with many others will be left with tsw3 content that won’t get any further support

Well that’s not the best argument besides supposed improvements etc but my logic is that, every new content will be made for TSW4 until the 5th comes out. That’s the main reason why I’ll preorder it.

I'd like to think I'll need persuading with some core improvements in sound, lighting and graphics. And I don't mean gimmicky stuff like umbrellas and elevators.

But the truth is I'll be buying anyway, simply because any new routes are going to require TSW4 ( or whatever they call it ) and I'm looking forward to some new content, especially North American dlc.

It's really hard to put the previous failures behind me. The broken promises and the apparent unwillingness to fix routes in TSW2/3 sticks in my craw. And you have to know that after Tuesday, those fixes are now vaporware for sure.

Best to move on, I guess and hope the game advances in the ways that it should be doing but hasn't so far.

Maybe in the longer term, Focus will inject some new life ( and perhaps new leadership ) into the game to bring it back to a real railway simulator instead of the sleep- inducing electric pablum it seems to be descending into.

Meanwhile, I will be ordering the new iteration come Tuesday. Hope springs eternal.

I won’t be getting on Xbox X since most likely will come out on games pass. Funny enough we knew about game pass expiring for TSW3 since the launch. I will pre order it for PC steam.I will definitely get the smithfield101preorder bundle as I did last year. Can’t wait for the update NYT as I have not played since march.

Definitly no preorder. I never preorder games, and even less from DTG.
Nothing that can/may be inclueded wont change it.
Hope it will bring something nice however.

I spent the equivalence of €115 on 3 years of GPU and I still got 6 months left so I'm hoping it'll show up on Game Pass. But a Japanese route would make me preorder regardless.

Live stream showcase (not the prerecorded Dovetail Direct one) showing a good product worth the asking price.

Otherwise, I'll stick to TSW3 for the time being

I will not pre-order if there isnt a discount, and even if there is a discount I will make my decision the day before release so I can have all the info from the route previews, q&a, etc ...

There can surely only be one real incentive for preordering TSW - reduced price!
I can’t honestly think of any other reason why people would bother.

At what point is how they're treating the customers going to be just too much? TSW3 came out a year ago, was a PAID core upgrade, broke a portion of TSW2 stuff (mostly lighting related) and introduced new broken stuff (horrible sudden weather changes, eye adaptation, etc.). None of this got fixed. And fixes promised to those sticking with TSW2 were thrown into a garbage bin (probably on Day 1, but they keep the lie running). And you're all just willing to get stabbed again? For me, personally, this one is probably it. Unless the core upgrade itself is free (which could actually be very helpful to unify TSW2/3 and only have one version of the game out there for all), I'm probably out. Everything is broken, nothing gets fixed, just give them money for the new shiny stuff again and again... Why bother?

Sure but TSW4 will come one day and when that day comes what would make you preorder? ;)
There is no mention of a date in the OP. If you can show me a reason why DTG would never announce TSW4 there is no reason to think TSW4 will never come ;)

Honestly, if we indeed get a completely separate TSW4, this trend of yearly new TSW game releases is slightly worrying. I kind of accepted the two-year rhythm we got into after TSW2 & 3 released, but one year is a bit too much. It seems like TSW3 just came out yesterday, there’s still lots of unresolved issues and open questions even going back to TSW2 patches. Many months of each year are now spent in silence developing the new game, and it seems there is a lack of regular add-on releases from spring all the way to winter due to this. I genuinely hope this is not the same as the TSW3 release all over again. Perhaps a free core update and name change to TSW4 for everyone, along with a Rush-Hour like route bundle instead?

Regarding the actual topic of the thread: I’m not sure if I can name a single feature to be honest. I guess it all comes down to the routes bundled with the game. As long as I like the majority of them, purchasing TSW4 would kind of be like getting the Rush Hour season pass with a free new core game attached to it. In the event that I don’t like many of the bundled routes, I would probably wait until a suitable single-route starter pack was offered. In the end I hope that we’re not getting a fully separate new game, but just a free core update and optional route bundle.

Exclusive content might be an incentive if it ever were to happen, but DTG have never done that due to the impracticalities.

    Honesty.
A better approach than the over-promise and then under deliver one DTG currently pursue.
If we are to get TSW4 then we'll no doubt get the "outstanding TSW3 issues will be fixed" in the same way TSW2 were promised and then forgotten about.

Whether I get TSW4 or not will depend on the reviews from the certain markers on here I think. I also want to see how the JT route comes out and what its like and the reception it gets.

But then I'm a sucker for a steam locomotive so if it is ecml and flying scotsman I nay have to bite the proverbial bullet as it were.

Wouldn't put any money on a pre order right now though. Unless something about release changes. As Vern says seeing the honest reviews from the good few on here helps a lot.

Probably nothing and if the games are going to be released on a yearly basis then i'll probably wait till TSW5 depending on if I have upgraded to a PS5 by then. Unless they have a number of routes I am interested in, which is probably unlikely.

TSW3 despite it's obvious flaws is still a good game and it feels like it has barely has been given time to breathe before another potential upgrade. I am certainly not ready for a new game. I am however, a very casual fan!

Perfection would be, to have the complete package, delays, rerouting, platform changes, track works (and e.g. resulting single track operations) and so on. You know, I know, most people know, this will not happen with the current dispatcher (likely it will never happen).
There was a good discussion a few years back, I think, in its own thread.
However, small random events, just something like on Niddertalbahn, "failed" crossing or signal failures (not in NID, just another possiblity) (where you would have to contact the dispatcher and then you could continue slowly) would be a good starting point. Something that keeps you on your toes and is not the same in "every" timetable run.
