Or you can just buy one single route of the three, or one of the future created and bundled routes.

I fail to find that option, also that's still making you buy something to receive updates mate

That option is availible when the game launches on the 26th.

The updates are pretty much only for the new TSW4 routes, so you're really not missing out on anything if you don't want any of the routes.

    Scenario Editor 2?
    Livery Editor 2?
    Scoring 2?
    Freeroam?
    Photo mode?
    Creators Club update?

Which for all the naysayers means you are effectively buying a route at the normal price and getting TSW4 free. I’m sure 99% of players will find at least one of the routes interesting. In fact, having preordered the Deluxe version for PC, I’ll probably use the single route option for my PS5 version, deciding which one after playing the PC version a bit.

Pretty sure they said Scenario editor 2 is only working on new routes.
But regardless. It's the cost of one new route, which presumably at some point in the future you will want to buy a single TSW4 route, which will then upgrade you to TSW4.

If not, I don't know why you thought the version update was going to be free? The previous two haven't been.

Exactly. I just pre purchased the Special edition, as I don't have Linke or the TGV route. So with the discount, I get 5 routes, 2 extra locos for like £65.

If you don't want one of these new routes then just wait for one to come along that you want. It might be bundled with the game (like when Birmingham came out and included TSW3 in a bundle) or TSW4 core game will be on sale by then.

Really this pricing is pretty good because you're getting 3 routes + a core game with a lot of added stuff for the price of one TSW3 route. The only people I could see having a big issue here are people that for whatever reason hate EVERY route coming with it (so just wait for one you want to release) or just want to be a moaner, like the people that are still clinging to TSW2.

If you like TSW3 as is, there is nothing stopping you from continuing to play it until there is a good enough reason (for you) to switch. The TSW4 changes aren't features that were ever promised to be added to TSW3.

None of this was ever promised for TSW3.

That's like me buying a 2022 car and complaining if the manufacturer adds a new nav screen in 2023. Annoying, maybe, but I wasn't promised a new nav screen with my 2022 so what is the complaint?

Please go read a roadmap from a few months ago and you will see Scenario Planner and Livery Editor 2.0 on there.
Also, you have taken that post in the wrong context, see the quote above it which i was referring to.

Ok... if that was on there (I honestly don't remember), then I see your point. DTG bungled that last year too when they promised some updates to TSW2 that so far haven't come (and I am assuming will never come).

I still don't have a problem with TSW4 and the cost of entry for what you get but they need to learn that they shouldn't be putting things on a roadmap for a specific version of the game unless they are actually going to include it in that game.

I don't see DTGs balance sheet, so I don't know the positives and negatives of charging for the core game every year. It doesn't seem like it even costs that much. I.E. if they just gave everyone who has TSW3 a free upgrade to TSW4/training centre, and then released the "TSW4" routes as their own pack at basically the same price, do they lose much? The advantage would be they could immediately close the door on TSW2/3, since there is no reason to complain about ongoing support for them if they are replaced at no cost. And they would still be getting money out of people, the DLC and new routes are what keep the money flowing.

Well now you know why the 2.0 versions were removed from the roadmap. And it wasn't because they weren't working on them ;)

They probably hoped we would forget but players never did.

Probably also explains the flurry of routes rushed out before the summer. Clear the tsw3 pipeline before tsw4

Thank you for posting this and I wholeheartedly agree.

I loved the stream! I just placed my pre-order for the deluxe edition, and I look forward to the previews and the new features. I can’t wait to drive the Vectron and the sound previews were impressive!

However, for those who don’t want to buy one of the new routes, I assume you still get TSW4 and all the features, as well as the updated DRA route, if you own TSW3 version of DRA.

If that is this case, then it is a free upgrade for people who already own what I consider to be the best German route in the game.

Perhaps I just spread some misinformation. It looks like you do need to buy a TSW4 route to get the DRA upgrade.

From this post by Alex found here: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/train-sim-world-4-coming-september-26th.72534/

Players that already own the previous version of Nahverkehr Dresden – Riesa can take advantage of the upgrades by purchasing any edition of Train Sim World 4. The BR 193 Vectron is exclusive to Deluxe and Special Editions and cannot currently be purchased as a separate Add-on.

Haven't read the thread as I must be getting off to bed but totally agree, a wonderful section of line and great to eventually have the old ER represented in game, along with England's best county.

Same goes for me, finally the much awaited "freedome to players" takes a huge step forward incl. Editor!.

Thanks to DTG for making this possible.

My guess is, it will take a while until players are used to the new features and this will impact like a growing snowball.

Another tsw premiere: the ones still on tsc only, starting to have valid reasons for making the big change to tsw.

Yes, would recommend if you own all the routes in the Special Edition already, Deluxe would be your best bet.

Ok. Even if I thought P'borough to Doncaster was a good part of the ECML (which it isn't), the clear lack of rolling stock is still disappointing. Yes, we get a new train. But only one. Oh, but don't worry, cause you can re-buy the Class 66 for the fifth (iirc) time!!!

    Not even a recycled HST.

The route into KGX would at least allow the 700 and 387 to also be recycled, let alone more separate new rolling stock like a 365.

I'm worried now an HST will be part of a paid loco pack, where I will need to buy it for the third time officially. Hopefully someone can whip together a decent LNER HST livery and formation in the editor though (or even extend the route to London!). That would be cool.

Totally disagree, it is my absolute favourite part, very enjoyable and varied service pattern.
Totally agree, I was at least hoping for the GWE HST to be refurbed but sadly not. Saying that I am looking forward to taking Scotsman down Stoke bank.
