Every other bus/metro sim ive played has on-board announcements; World of Subways 3 from over 10 years ago and even OpenBVE have this. So why doesn't this game? Another glaring thing that is still missing are guards. This would not be hard to implement to new routes. At least we've got the PC Editor which will hopefully mean we get some quality user generated content that is not rushed out due to some DTG exec breathing down your neck.
Guards are still new to tsw. It only appeared in mml for the first time and glossop only has it in scenario planner. It is probably one of those things that are easy to say, but hard to implement. Same with announcements. it is only in rivets scottish route. It probably is much more complex for dtg because they are working on multiple projects at one time, so they would have to hire a bunch of people to record their voices in house for every single recording. That and having to implement it and work without issues is the time consuming process. 3rd parties are usually just working on one thing at a time.
I feel like it could also be stuff like the actual game, it could cause problems and issues if this stuff got implemented and possible break features and lag out. I don't know not a technical guy, but I'm sure there's a reasoning behind why all this isn't in the game. And they have clearly thought about it if they add the features already like working guard buttons on the trains and so on.
you’re right. There may be technical limitations or considerations that prevent certain features from being implemented in the game. The developers have likely thought about these aspects, which is why they have already added features like working guard buttons on the trains.
this! I have been playing TSW since the founders edition, the very first beginning. TSW4: Still no announcements. Sam who sadly no longer works for DTG said on a stream it is easy to implement. It adds so much to the immersion. Tramsim has it and other sims. For me on train announcements are important. I dont need to paint my train pink with green dots i dont need to make photos in photo mode i dont need free roam I dont need a scoring system and platinum medal.. just announcements!
If you can hire and record a whole orchestra for the TSW4 tune, you can also get 1 person in, pay and record announcements.
Exactly. I really dont understand why people defend DTG so much. Unfortunately, for as long as enough people continue to buy their routes, nothing will change. Take OMSI 2 for example, the London addon for that game has all the stop announcements, and I swear that was developed by one guy in his free time. There is no redemption for DTG in this situation.
Well guys if you think its that easy then you will get the option to do it They are giving away editor so i want to see your train announcements, guard mods etc... end no excuses .. all that is possible with blueprints... wonder how long it gonna take you. You can show us how its suppose to be done
Licencing. Pure and simple. Look at Edinburgh- Glasgow. Rivet used a VA and it's not that close to the original and they got abused and hounded for it. Whatever the reason was, the official announcements are available but weren't used, and people got vocally negative. Whether it was down to Scotrail saying no, or the original files not being compatabile, who knows. As with guards, the main comment is... why? It may be a feature that only a vocal minority wants? I played it on Glossop and frankly, I was bored to hell. It's not everyones cup of tea.
Announcements would have to be recorded from scratch, because the RL recordings are copyrighted by the TOCs as well as the actors themselves.
Im talking about AI guards. all it would require is an npc in guard uniform getting off the train at each platform, looking down the platform, getting back on, and buzzing the driver. That cannot be hard to implement.
I do agree the train despatch system is unrealistic. In TSC you don't have to close the doors yourself unless you are driving a DOO train so I fail to see why in TSW the same system hasn't been implemented. It is even more irksome on slam door stock! The class 158 on MML is halfway there but you still have to close the doors yourself.
Ah, okay, that wasn't specified in the original post, so excuse my misunderstanding. I didn't actually realise guards are still that many trains, my local operator doesn't have them and I've only seen them on the long distance/ scottish lines, so assumed they were not used anymore
I would love to see those but the way DTG handles NPC's I'm sure every time you look out the window on departure the guard will be humping the train or, god forbid, the passengers
I mean, they could just model it in as a fixed character who follows a scripted pattern, there's no need for them to be a free roaming npc.
I don't even mind if we don't get the actually guard appearing. A whistle (where applicable) and the closing of doors or the alarm and the closing of the non slam door types would be sufficient. If they wanted to be really immersive we could have the despatcher on the station with the lollipop thing (or a member of platform staff and a raised arm) and the guard doing their bit.
Alot of stations outside London and major city centres do not have ticket barriers so conductors are prevelant.
Yup after watching the roadmap stream I'm also starting to think they could pull it off without it becoming a meme.
