So I want to use this opportunity to bring up something that briefly appeared in some shots of the recent DTG Direct livestream, but was never directly addressed at any point, and that is the appearance of what could be a formation editor in TSW4. I want to just ask, is this actually going to be in the new game? Or has it since been scrapped, or is it a feature that will be added post release, because this would be a pretty big addition to the game if so.
Formation Designer is one of two new features coming after launch. It is detailed in the Train Sim World 4 FAQ.
Thanks for the response. Seems weird it was never addressed at any point (I would have preferred some mention of it, personally) but hopefully we will here more about it in the coming weeks.
I thought it was just me missing this part, because JD mentioned it a few times after they showed the menu. Maybe they missed a prompt in the stream/video? Seems weird nothing was said, because this is a very exciting edition.
Formation Designer is an in-game feature. The PC Editor is an external application, which is one of the reasons why it can't come to consoles.
Excellent. While it may be a while before I am financially able to get tsw4 (am currently helping a sibling out of work) but when i do, antelope valley looks awesome. I lived in LA for a good 10 years so will love to just walk around Union Station.
This is good news and paired to the ES64U2 locomotives one can do ÖBB Infra Deutsche Bahn Netze SBB Infra Dreiländerbahn Three Country Corner route Vorarlberg route by copying the Wiesel Doppelstockwagen runs
They recorded a segment, because later on they referred to the discussion of the formation designer. However it was clearly cut from the early discussion of new features, if you look closely you can find the exact point that segment was removed What's worrying about that is they just covered off the suspension with an on screen subtitle, but they cut the entire segment for formation designer which suggests they really aren't sure what state it will be in by the time it does get released.
We have a roadmap article releasing later today which gives more details on formation designer, and when you can expect it to arrive.
That's very nice, but why can't Custom Formations be used in Timetable mode? That'd be awesome and bringing TSW closer to the flexibility that TSC Quick Drive mode offers.
I sort of hope that it doesn't just work as 'select loco, select a rake of 1 type of wagon'. I really wanna be able to do something like Class 47 + MK1 BG + MK3s
I feel like you will be able to use custom formations in the timetable though. Trains that you make in the formation designer that be spawned within the free roam mode, and you can use free roam with a route's timetable.
Going by the roadmap now out, it will work in total freedom with the only restrictions being coupling and brake types. So you could for example couple pretty much any UK locomotive to any UK freight wagons, and mix and match said wagons within certain limitations. You couldn't mix for example a 1950s 5 plank with a JNA because one is air brake and one is vacuum brake. You could however even go as far as mixing something like a BR Class 37 with German freight cars, because both use the same type of coupling and both have the same 5.1 bar air brakes. So your example with the 47, MK1 and MK3s would be more than possible, provided it were the NTP BG. (SOS MK1s are vacuum so no crimson BG).
Sounds nice. I just wonder how easy-to-use and quick-to-setup this would be. I'm really looking forward to a feature that's as easy and quick as TSC Quick Drive.
Something I really want to see is the Mk3s from GWE bieng uncoupleable and used as a separate vehicle, rarther than simply having a permanently coupled 2+8 HST
