What do you mean compare both in video? It looks the same as the screenshots I just showed you... they're screenshots. UE4's lighting is FAR more sophisticated than in TSC. What makes you think TSC's lighting is better?

You have to download someone's already created scenario, or spend ages making your own (getting a lot of AI trains in can be extremely time consuming). Not to mention you have to meet all of their asset requirements, which on any of the good scenarios are extremely extensive. Which again means you need to buy lots of assets. Whereas in TSW you just hop into service mode and drive. As all routes have their full 24 hour timetable, that is always populated by AI.

Offset by the fact that so many routes, of exceptionally high quality, are actually completely free for TSC :)

So? There are literally tens of thousands of them... mainly free. Making scenarios is fun as well. (shrug). I guess you're more of a gamer than a simmer it would seem. Not that there's anything wrong with that... but you clearly have very different priorities. I think that sums up the difference between the two systems as well.

Considering I spend hours each week in my VR DCS Simrig. As well as flying loads in MSFS using flight plan fileing and following proper ATC instructions. I'm 100% a simmer. I just want to actually play the game/simulate the sim. Not spend hours creating a route to dive.

I think what it boils down to is that TSC is running on a fairly proprietary game engine. I think it was based off of another engine but the very core is all custom from what i can recall. Coding UE for a train sim isn't impossible and in fairness they've done a good job but its definitely lacking that very high quality polish and essence that TSC has been known for.

But you don't have to. There are so many you can just download, and you're off to the races. Many are real time tabled scenarios, with real, period correct AI. You don't have to lift a finger... other than to click on the download button that is :) (assuming you have the required assets, but you can easily swap out stock with things like Loco Swap).

To be fair, my TSC install is modded to hell and back :) Not that it matters.

But they are not real time tables... just made up ones. Dunno... just seems to be so much missing with TSW. I mean, no Pendolinos on the WCML (is there even a WCML yet?), no 91s or 801s on the ECML.. not played TSW for ages... is there even a ECML?

No idea how people are managing to get TSC to look so awful!

I can go one better. Here's TCS vs real life.

That's actually quite old, and made prior to Sky & Weather pack v2, and AP Cloud pack, and AP Signal Pack. It would look significantly better if I remade it now.

I know. People can show TSC looking as terrible as they want, and then show it against TSW, but all I know is, mine looks nothing like theirs so.. (shrug).
There's a lot of life in the old dog yet.

From my point of view the money doesn’t come into it so much as how much enjoyment I get for that money. Sure my collection of TSC content over the last 14 years has cost more than TSW. But the enhancement packs aren’t only used in one route.

I’m not going to argue which is best. I love both games. But for sheer immersion I’ll pick TSC. I can drive longer routes. See a much bigger variety of stock. I much prefer scenarios and there are many more available than I’ll ever have time to play. One thing I really like is that if some unusual event has happened, somebody will have made a scenario of it within a couple of weeks that you can reenact with the actual timings and trains. All good fun.

I’m sure as more different stock arrives on TSW that will change and as people get to grips with the editor, maybe we’ll see more scenarios and then maybe I’ll play that a lot more.

Doesn’t really matter. They are both games, play what makes you happy.

Honestly I wish my other hobbies were as cheap. Lego prices at the moment make TSC / TSW look like the bargain of the century it terms of hours played.

So there isn't one yet then. I don't follow TSW announcements or news, so no idea what there is, or isn't. How about WCML?

for people on xbox it sort was part of a subscription, i never really mind the yearly releases because i already had game pass so for me it was a great bonus to keep playing, i do luckly own the base game since i got it when the US-Trenton bundle came out, but i feel bad who might not be interested in a lot of the bundles and haven't purchased the base game and now are forced too. to even keep using there content that wasn't part of game pass. even myself would have just been oh cool another version at least i get these routes for free unlike rush hour but i guess either dovetail or xbox didn't wanna work together. hopefully, as someone who have complained about dlc sales they can't make it an excuse the dlc is always 10% off and dont provide any sales. will be waiting for the black Friday sale for this one.

The only issue I have with the game is takes forever to load and the Dovetail logo sputters.

So is there a WCML or not?
[no one could answer a simple question, so I looked myself.] No there's not. That's kind of shocking. I'm amazed, that after all these years, how little coverage of the UK there actually is. Is this map accurate?

Erm how about fair business practices for starters instead of killing off all previous versions of the game eventually, forcing players to continuously repurchase the same game hidden behind a pay wall each time. TSW3 was not even out for a year which makes this release ludicrous unless of course you're a fanboy with loads of money. Checkout TSC for the way this should have been handled. Charge more for the base game but you only buy it once, then you buy just the dlc you want, you know the way everyone else does this sort of thing.

I agree 100%. It is now effectively a yearly subscription service. A yearly payment to continue to get access to be able to buy new content. And now routes like Southeastern are getting updates that will only exist in TSW4. So a route I have paid for and then paid for the upgrade to in TSW3 I would need to pay for again to get it updated a third time. For all the lovely DTG marketing they are indeed forcing you to upgrade at this point. I didn't mind as much when it was two yearly but now they are moving to a yearly release it's becoming harder to justify.
Yes there are three routes on release but what if you don't want them or only want only one of them? New TSW4 features wont come to my current dlc line up, so effectively I'm paying again to play the same content.
Overall I know many will buy into the hype and marketing so it is what it is but I'm not paying again this time.

    I'm bug fixing...
    Found one!

    TSW3<>TSW4
    ADD TSW3_FIX TO TSW4

No wonder they have problems. :)

That isn't a reason AP sucks.

They've done really good work to an old engine, and have added a good amount of functionality compared to what we had before. It's a shame it does cost a pretty penny but visually it's worth it.

My issue with Schnauzapowah's videos is that he spends a great deal of time complaining about what the route is not, compared to what he wanted it to be.

But it isn't the bugs- that part I don't mind and in fact appreciate. Rather, I don't care for the incessant "Doncaster-Peterborough stinks, they should have built Edinburgh-Newcastle" or "I hate the Class ABC, they should have built the Class XYZ instead". Rather than talking about what the route is, he spends an inordinate amount of time talking about what it isn't.

Imagine what TSW2 would have become if fixes had been applied, some optimization and then DLC added.

I love how the most expensive one is "best value" lol, there is normally a badge on the second one to say "most popular" its the same marketing schtick all around these days. Battlepasses, day 1 DLC etc and so on. This is why Baldurs Gate 3 is getting so much praise, one full price game, no dlc, no battlepass or mtx, complete at launch, a rarity these days.
