I love the work that's been done with tsw4! Ecml looks fantastic! Love most of this thread and I completely agree with the top post, just wanna say dtg, well done!
I would also like to echo the sentiments of the OP. Although the routes aren't setting my world on fire, I'm sure I'll still enjoy them and I am extraordinarily excited for the new features like free-roam in timetable mode, and the eventually coming formation editor. So thank you very much to the full DTG team. I also want to particularly thank Matt (not sure how to tag people) for being so active on the forums in the last few days, which I'm sure isn't the most fun way for you to be spending your time just now. With all the questions you've answered on the forums since the announcement, as well as the stream, I don't think there is a single question I still have that I haven't seen already answered. Bring on the 22nd September!
Look at the message of mine that Gilly quoted. You'll understand then. P.S. - He isn't using the Nazis to show "gripe" with the game. It was an ironic post because another user earlier compared TSW Discussions to North Korea. [EDIT - Jan - Quarrelsome]
The poster comparing these forums with North Korea doesn't see the irony! If DTG were behaving like a authoritarian dictator all those moaning posts would have been removed and the posters banned so I can't even see his logic! Or of those who agree with him. Many developers of games or otherwise would not allow half of the negative comments on here to stand, I think DTG actually put up with a lot and allow a lot of freedom so the North Korean point is, being kind, pathetic.
Totally agree. To their eternal credit DTG allow dissenting voices on this forum (and in certain instances it has led to a change of policy - I was rather hoping we might have seen that here in the form of a fairly priced TSW4 core upgrade option but it’s not looking likely) so to compare them/it to North Korea is pretty ridiculous. Anyone complaining about Gilly ’s post has completely missed the point. Echo chambers on either side of an argument/discussion are dangerous, differing opinions and a bit of critical thinking never did anyone any harm IMHO, discussion being the aim of the game.
Some People at trainsimplayer! I was well aware that that he griped over North Korea hence why I posted. Goodwin's law in action!!!
You clearly missed the first sentence of my reply if we are going that route I did not read any of the posts that came before and don't intend to if the level of the discussion had already reached that low level.
out of context? I don't wanna open pages on a train simulator website and being put that imagery in my face. It's that simple. This is an international forum may I remind you?
I know this place can feel like an English pub but try also to think of it as the biggest international train station in the world
I'm sure if any ex-North Koreans saw the earlier post they would be raging. Gilly's was mainly showing how ridiculous comparing Authoritarian regimes to TSW Discussion is. If you're offended by that, well by all rights that's your choice. He doesn't need to amend it. He was not promoting, ridiculing or glorifying the Nazi Ideology and therefore there isn't anything that should be shyed away from.
Hey all, please try and keep the thread on topic and move any discussions about politics into DMs. I tried to moderate this as good as I can, but as it's the weekend I'd rather spend it not working, as I'm sure you will all understand. This thread was closed during my inspection, but will now be opened up again. Remember to keep discussions civil and respectful. Differing opinions are a good thing, we can learn and grow from discussing our ideas and views of the world. What's not good is attacking and offending others because you disagree. Have a nice weekend, Jan
I’ll save any gushing praise until I get hold of the game and see how well it runs but DTG are certainly providing quite the package here with the included features and routes. I can’t wait to get playing it.
Thanks Jan, I was a bit concerned that some of the postings were wandering away from my original intention so appreciate the tidy up.
If you go to an English country pub, everyone stops talking and looks at you when you first walk in through the door..
Back to topic; I would also thanks the team for the work they have done on the Austrian Route. It already feel like I'm going to spend hours and hours on it so... Thanks ! (PS: A Belgian route when ? ;-) )
Not when the petrol engine is powering - it's quite strange as you don't start it in the traditional sense, you initialise everything and the engine comes in and out as necessary. Economical though, getting around 75mpg and hoping that will improve as it runs in. There's still noise from the transmission, but yes you have to be more aware when driving slowly, reversing or around car parks as it's not going to be so easy to hear. The other thing I haven't got used to yet either is no mechanical handbrake. Putting the transmission in Park applies some sort of electronic parking brake.
I presume your car is much like our Prius with the Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) gearbox then - takes a bit of getting used to but I quite like it now, infinitely flexible on gears essentially but revs up right old racket if you wan tto get moving fast haha Does it have the extra "B" state on the gear control? On the Prius this puts it in to what is essentially dynamic brakes mode Matt.
That 'B' mode is great for winter driving, though the dynamic brake connection never occurred to me. Now if it only had a CN train kind of horn...
Yes pretty much identical. I guess B replaces the 1 and 2 positions on older CVT boxes. I will have to try that on one of the steeper hills around here!
I would have thought the "B" mode was for regen braking to help recharge the small battery on the car. I've got a full EV and never touch the brake pedal. Learning to drive it "1 pedal" takes a little getting used to but is great once mastered. Driving a traditional car feels really odd now.
This was a nice post to read, and I am looking forward to what TSW4 has to offer. The graphics look slightly better than TSW3 and I am sure that we will see further improvements to help TSW run smoothly on PC and console hardware. I am proud to see how far both TSW and TSC have come in the recent years and it is bound to get even better for both sims. I am hoping that scenario and timetable progress between TSW3 and TSW4 are possible so we don't have to replay the same scenarios that were already completed in TSW3. Nonetheless this was a good post to see and we should be more mindful to the hard work that goes on behind the scenes with the development of TSW and game/sim development in general. There may be limitations here and there when it comes to what we want in the simulator but I always make sure to appreciate what the devs make and the progress that has been made
B will do regen braking too - but honestly I have found that the most effective regen braking is a light press on the main brake pedal. Every time i've tested it on a journey I do regularly, I get far more regeneration than the B mode.
I don't trust all these electric and hybrid cars, I am happy with my beautiful sounding petrol engine cars. To sway this back on topic though the Electric cars are much nicer to be stuck behind at one of the many Level crossings on the ECML in/just outside Lincolnshire with Helpston and Tallington (all on the upcoming ECML route) being the worst offenders. Actually instead of using Helpston I often go down to Woodcroft Crossing which will hopefully be well created in game as it is unique to say the least.
Well said! Some of these people bagging the ECML choice will probably be posting screenshots in a month or two ROFL and maybe, just maybe, enjoying themselves (if they can ever do that! lol)...
These cars do appeal to my inner nerd. Learning their systems and how best to get the most of them. Boring to most but fascinating to me. Mine lets me adjust regen all the way from zero to full one pedal. It will regen upto 150kw in the highest setting but if you use the brake firmly from higher speed you can get over 200kw of regen. There's a long hill near me if I have to head to Gloucester that I can gain 1 or 2% charge just going down it. But yes, I've taken this off topic now. Sorry everyone!
Matt I was amazed at Train Sim World 3, it changed everything! The German high speed route is a dream come true. We haven't got the Japanese Shinkansen yet so this will do and I remember you launching the LGV I think in 2020? Having seen Cajon Pass in TSC I am just amazed any time I look at scenery in Cajon Pass in TSW. I absolutely love almost every route. Sherman Hill is just also the dream! Glossop has really been the cherry on top with such an amazing route up the hill towards the Peak District...or however you call it. Nahverhkehr Dresden Riesa is possibly one of my favourite routes, the amount of scenery in that is similar to what you see in Tokyo, buildings for miles! It influenced me to buy Tharandte Rampe. Although a lot more curvy and going through canyons and hills it is still beautiful and gorgeous in the style of Dresden Riesa. I am also loving Midland Main line and can't see what all the fuss is about. Some people tend to find negative things and blow them up out of proportion and it isn't justified. I, Vern and others know you put out regular updates and have updated many routes. The Bakerloo line I guess is one of those and I have really got into it. Having never driven a real subway in my life I enjoy the frequent stopping. I did drive the simulator (public museum in Tokyo) at the Tokyo Metro Museum and you could say it is fun. I cannot compare the Tube with Tokyo' metro but the Tokyo metro is nice to ride in but still its a subway, noisy and a rolly. Some of the lines have been there for a long time too. For the cost of the game I believe we are getting great value for money and there is no competitor really. I think of doing the Sydney metro trains in the editor or any editor stuff and I still find it daunting and yet might try someday again. When I interact with the safety systems and signalling I am really impressed. This game has heaps to offer (learning and practising). I found the lighting upgrade in TSW3 amazing too, I love it. A lot of screenshots posted in Train Sim World community are hard to tell if it was taken in real life or from the simulator. Is all of Britain underground power? I have recently noticed no power lines (I checked on google too lol) and I remember placing them in American routes such as the Elgin to Byron one I started building. In any case you guys have done wonders and I am sure you are very well organized with many meetings and communication with the team members etc. It sounds like the team get a real buzz from building the routes as well which is good to know because it's great to have people enjoying their work. Thanks for your close contact with the community and you do make a good ambassador! I wonder if we can get Sean Bean (who did train sim promotion maybe 8-10 years ago?) and Rowan Atkinson to do a very special DLC with interactive NPCs and a story/puzzle explorer type scenarios/levels. I don't know if you ever saw my suggestion on LGV Paris to Rennes with a Le Mans track and some Normandy puzzles ie tanks war stuff and things to solve and discover such as a Panzer and Sherman tank LOL just for some interesting stuff, maybe it would have to be done by a 3rd party ;-) Thanks for your efforts and the team and please pass my thanks on to them!
I'm not fond of battery operated stuff but as a novelty I like the idea of having a hybrid with wheels driven by electricity rather than a gearbox. Because I love locomotives and know how much power they can put out. But doing it from a motor not a battery which has limited life (ie a diesel locomotive has 19000 litre capacity whereas a battery would only have a capacity of 5% of that) is where the fun is. Batteries have their uses but if you have a hybrid the battery bank (if several) can be charged while driving along by the engine. Batteries only last 5-10 years from what I know and the cost is almost as much as the car. I might be wrong. What if a safe mini nuclear power unit was designed and they could power trains for 25 years! I think you Vern must be enjoying those sounds your little Toyota makes and it sounds fun! I know what you mean when you get those feelings..... Sometimes I hear engines around the place and they remind me of the almighty 2 stroke diesel SD40s (Australia calls them GT26Cs and I also love even more the 4 stroke GEs. The reason I love them? They have a computer which has a tractive adhesion (advanced) for the Dash 8s which they can really pull a load efficiently. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westrail_P_class https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_GT26_Series
If all of us here were in the same classroom to participate in projects together and witnessed how every time the same group of people would choose the easiest part of the project, you could be tempted to call them lazy. The ones that have children understand even better the situation since kids tend to always choose the easiest way but at the same time expecting great results. Many times we tell them that there is no free lunch, you get what you put in. Maybe some of you are aware of the case of Linus Tech Tips. If you are up to date, then you what not willing to invest to properly perform a test, lying and repeated QA issues can bring to the business. Most of the DLCs developed hit the ¨good enough¨ mark only and this is accepted from within the company. If you ask me, this seems to be the culture in general. The excellence is usually reserved for TSG. Of course there is a respectable amount of work put in, this is undeniable. Consistency is something that lacks still. I also have the impression that there is a fear to commit to seriously look into the issues that have been around forever. The yearly rebranding helps to maintain a relatively clean image of the franchise, too. There is no perfect company in the world. It´s actually damaging/unhealthy to aim for perfection in everything you do. Excellency however is very achievable and a fantastic place to be in. We all have our favorite sports and live very intensely the big tournaments to see our idols fighting for glory. I wish DTG was my idol but sadly its aim for only ¨good enough¨ is not enough for me. I do play from time to time and when I load in I quickly remember why I don´t play more, buy more, like it more. Maybe one day...
DTG may not be perfect, but I have loved this game since I found it 2020. I’m here for the duration. I say well done.
As long as it doesn't also have a door stuck to the windscreen obscuring your view then you will be just fine.
Fine, balance is needed and dust must settle. I get it. But you all DO realize that you´re praising a product at which you didn´t get your hands on yet. Right?! I mean, prerecorded streams or did I miss something? To speak in liturgical terms: Don´t intonate "Halleluja" before "Ofertorium", or in brute german: Don´t praise the day before the evening has come.
I've been playing TSW less and less over the past few weeks as I especially miss the features that are finally coming! All these innovations also justify a new version that can no longer be compared with TSW3. I am aware that previous DLC cannot be upgraded to this new standard, but it is sad when gross errors are no longer fixed. This eternal point of criticism must be defused! I don't expect anything perfect, but I don't expect any negligent errors either. Still, I'm really looking forward to TSW4 and will pre-order the deluxe version! Many wishes were listened to and implemented and I'm very excited about the new feeling on the PS5! I am convinced that the team here has done a great job! If I could, I would personally thank everyone for their dedication! Please pass this on to the team! Now that autumn is approaching, the days are getting shorter, the weather worse, TSW4 comes at just the right time. TSW has so much potential and that seems like a long shot to me. So a big compliment to the team in advance and I can hardly wait!
Keep your control freakery forum and your shonky game, DTG. I refunded my deluxe edition pre-order last night. I will spend it on something game wise, more worthwhile.
True, but I've enjoyed TSW2020 for hundreds of hours. I've enjoyed TSW2 for hundreds of hours. I've enjoyed TSW3 for hundreds of hours. I think I'm gonna enjoy TSW4 for hundreds of hours as well. Sure, there's always a chance for massive dissapointment, but so far, I've only experienced minor dissapointments which didn't prevent me from enjoying the game I've purchased
I understand this. However, TSW has already given me literally hundreds of hours of stress relief, escape, and pure enjoyment in addition to an increased knowledge and appreciation of train travel, particularly in places that I have yet to experience. So, while there will undoubtedly be bugs, I will continue to wish they weren’t there, but not let them get in the way of my enjoyment. So, yes, I have pre-ordered without seeing any of the streams or any of the reviews. I have done that in appreciation for what TSW has meant to me, and in celebration of a product that continues to thrive and get better. Or, to put a spin on your quote, I am celebrating the day so far, grateful that it’s not over. And I am anticipating a beautiful, though imperfect, evening.
On the flipside, same goes for the folk doing the opposite. No point in anyone slamming OR overly praising the game until we see it. For now, it's either hope of a good release, or skepticism that it won't be any good. Any other viewpoint at this stage is quite foolish.
This is a good point well made. As I understand the point of the thread though it is thanking DTG for their efforts in making what we hope will be an enjoyable game, in light of an otherwise very negative community reaction. As others have said, we can judge dovetail on their track record, so I anticipate quality wise TSW4 will be on par with TSW3. Maybe come release day we’ll find it’s a turd on toast and we’ll all be disappointed, but that’s the risk with any new game. I for one won’t feel silly for expressing appreciation and gratitude to the devs for their efforts and good intentions, even in the (in my opinion unlikely) event that those efforts and good intentions deliver a vomit-bowl of a game quality wise. Won’t be offering any praise either if that’s the outcome mind you.
I understand and agree on what you wrote. After some reluctance I bought TSW3, but only because of NID. And I didn´t regret this one minute. Niddertalbahn is just an outstanding route. The TSW4 streams might give a hint or two to new interesting features and upcoming enjoyable content. I don´t deny that possibility and will consider. But after DTG´s track record of blatant.......... errmmm ......... truth economy, I think one can´t be blamed for watching this development with careful eyes of reservation. The coin has always two sides. I´ve spent around €1k for TSW content, and that doesn´t take into account the purchase of a PS5 which is mainly dedicated to TSW. It is my evening chill out after a hard day´s work and therefore justified. So, let´s see where this goes. Maybe DTG surprises me positively for a change?! I´m all in for it. Until then I won´t join the gushing hymns of praise, though, as an act of self preservation.
Perhaps we can keep the wider issue of business ethics etc. in one of the other threads and keep this for the purpose intended, please.
