On the stream Matt said that multiple units will work as fixed sets in formation designer i.e. if you place a class 700 it will be a whole class 700. How will this apply to trains like the HST and the TGV? On the TGV you can uncouple the powercars from the coaches already in game, so I'd imagine that will let you spawn the powercars and the entire set of coaches as 2 separate units. The HST sets are treated as separate locos and coaches, they just don't let you couple and uncouple. This is evident by the fact that people upload scenarios with things like a 66+MK3s or 2 HST powercars back to back, and also by the HST scenario on Cross City. However, the livery designer treats them as complete trains (presumably for convenience when making a livery). So how will the HST work in formation designer? Will we be able to do things like CL43+MK1s+CL43 or CL47+MK1+MK3s, or will the HST be locked into pre-set formations?

I hope the ICE 1 does NOT act as a fixed EMU, meaning that you could customise it's length. It does seem like it will happen like that too because using godmode to spawn the seperate coaches, they have no missing textures on some inside edges, and moving them together will couple them automatically, so it should be doable in the formation designer. atleast I hope that

Only reason I didn’t include the ICE in this thread is because it’s internal couplers will only let it couple to its own stock. But I agree it should also be customisable and not a fixed unit

I once saw this formation in a video
101, 101, IC car, ICE 1 car, IC car
or something like that, so IRL it is possible connecting ICE 1 middle cars somewhere else, but I don't think DTG'll do that in the formation designer

We can always come back and make things work differently later if we need to, the internal config is quite flexible so even if we "play it safe" from day one we can experiment and find things that work too. The goal is to make it as flexible as possible.

I was wondering about the scenarios where you couple up a loco to the front of an EMU like ICE or HST to rescue it and you have to expose the front couplers, can formation designer deal with say a loco pulling a power car so that it spawns with the front hatch open and coupled up?

I don't know the answer to that one yet - if not at first, it'll be something that needs sorting for sure as many trains have multiple couplings or couplings behind covers.
