How does anyone manage to drive the DB BR 185? The constant loud humming in the cab induces a headache for me in like 1-2 minutes. The only way I can drive it is by killing the audio, but then that's half the fun of driving hearing the track clacks etc. Is there anything in the cab to disable it? Or an audio pack/overhaul that removes it? I've been enjoying getting to know the German trains, but I physically can't drive this one as it causes me actual pain lol.
I haven't driven freight in quite an while on KWG due to the 185's humming sound i would like to drive freight on that route but rather wait for the vectron to do that
The freight services in that route are not that great. Sometimes you wont be able to finish them because of red lights or dispatcher pathing issues. Also, sometimes the freight formation hasnt got a correct loco power/train weight ratio and if you find a red light you cant get the train rolling again. If you play on winter weather the chances of not getting to finish are increased exponentially (adhesion problems). Sad, because when TSW3 released I thought I would love to play freight here, stopping to let the ICEs pass, etc ... But as it is right now I never play freight there because it is calling for trouble.
Just turn off the sound or choose an other locomotive... , in cab sounds should be accurate and immersing. (means not too quiet)
I have ridden an railpool 185 before irl and as far as i can recall it does not have the humming sound or atleast not as loud
It has something but much lower pitch. The DTG version of it is annoying because it hurts your ears after 10 mins. It doesnt seem that bad for the first few mins. Again, Im not complaining about the accuracy to the original. Im complaining because the sound hurts my ears.
Even just a separate sound bar just for engine audio would suffice. I could turn down the engine noise, and still keep track/switches/trains passing etc. Turning off all audio is a terrible answer. As is telling me to not use content I've paid for. There is absolutely zero chance this in cab audio is 100% accurate, unless the train drivers wear ear protection at all times.
No, as has been discussed in this thread https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/the-new-br-146-is-awesome.43893/#post-358606
If I remember correctly the sounds for both the br146 and the br185 were updated with the release of Riesa - Dresden. The br146 has a much more pleasing humming-sound, while the humming in the br185 is far, far to loud. Shouldn't these two cabs sound about the same? Also, when you are passing a br185 you can hear the humming even inside the cab of the train that you are driving. I think that you are absolutely right. The loud humming-sound in the br185 gives me headaches as well. Especially since I always use headphones. I wish there was some way to use the br146 soundset for the br185. Please DTG, take another look at this, because this can't be right ...
Links to real life and in-game sounds: Real Life TSW If you ask me, part of the problem is that the low frequency "BRRRRRRRRRRRR" sound in the original partially masks the high frequency electrical sound, making it more bearable. In the TSW version, you pretty much cant hear the "BRRRRRRRRR" and the electrical sound has higher volume than in real life, making it a really bad combo for my ears.
Here 2 videos of a vlog series " 7 parts" about driving & setting up locomotives. Cab rides, shunting, coupling etc. (Br 151, br189, vectron, 185, 187..) its very interesting for people want to look how its done irl. The locos are not quiet, it also depending on the recording equipment, but a locomotive trafo fan isnt something quiet! The other parts can be accessed at the youtube channel.
You sure about that? I’ve driven a 185.3 myself (not terribly long, but still) and the humming is definitely there and just as annoying in real life. The 185.0 and .1 is much easier on the ears.
