I thought I'd canvas opinion on the two upcoming Rivet Games UK routes. I'd love to hear what you all think we'll get. Apologies that I haven't made a personal choice but I have no idea.
I think Jasper gave a hint over on the Rivet forums a few weeks back, something about the Jacobite (Fort William - Mallaig) with a new steam loco.
I do hope it isnt a new steam locomotive. Purely for the reason if it is a new route with a new steam engine I'll want to buy it desperately while also having that voice in the back of my head saying "Its a Rivet product" which they can be very hit and miss sometimes. We need another modern IOW standard route from Rivet just to try and put peoples mind at rest IMO
There aren't any routes off my head that I could imagine being likely to be Rivets next release. WHL (I think that's Jacobite line) would have to be backdated to interest me as a Black five and sprinter with a handful of services a day wouldn't do the route justice at all. At least in the days gone by there was a bit more going on.
Agreed. IF they do west highland line at all. Dtg gotta help them with the 156. Cause I am not having sh"t sounds from rivet again. Especially on: 1. The most powerful sprinter 2. The most powerful sounding sprinter 3. My local train I'm interested to see what they do for steam though. They will probably just reuse alot from the jubilee and 8f and just change the livery a little and change with the phycics and change the whistle.
I wouldn't mind the West Highland Line (Fort William to Mallaig), although it doesn't have many services, it does have a lot of different services. Inverclyde line with the Class 380 would be another appealing option, shorter than Edinburgh to Glasgow but more stations. Maybe even a revisit to West Cornwall Local with an extension across to Plymouth (featuring a Class 50 or an Intercity liveried HST).
For the Swiss one I guess (and hope) it will be the Gotthardbahn, Lake constance, Albula line or Surselva line
The new techniques used for distant scenery on Vorarlberg would make a huge difference to a West Highland Line route. The Black 5 would presumably also be pretty easy to produce based on the Jubilee and it's surely coming at some point as one of the most common steam types.
Hate to be negative I really do, but I can’t see me buying any future routes from them unless they go back & sort the Edinburgh to Glasgow issues.
I concur with this. There are far too many issues on the E-G for me to enjoy it. It's a big shame too as I know the route like the back of my hand to the point of not needing the hud. I'm all for new Scottish content in TSW, but I want it done to an acceptable level that respects the source material. I'm not asking for perfection, I'm just asking for a route that is faithful to what we have in real life. EDIT: Jasper_Rivet Do the team have an update on what's going on with the patch that's rumoured to be floating around?
We have Scottish and English routes. Maybe Rivet could do a Welsh line. The Marches or Cambrian Coast would be good choices. Not too modern, though.
Ermmm the 158 would like to have a word... I always enjoy a 156 thrash though. They sound epic when really opened up and I'm doubtful Rivet could do it justice.
The only good thing about that was they listened to the majority about the rusty valve gear. apart from that I noticed they didn't seem to want to fix much?
I have no idea of course myself.. i've heard a fair few suggestions of the west highland line and i think that could for sure be a possibility also for the other, maybe something like Norwich-Sheringham via Cromer, i feel like the east of England would really benefit from some representation i'd personally like to see something like a mini-network rather than one A-B route.. i remember when Rivet said they were going to add some extra mileage to West Cornwall Local before it's release (as initially it was announced as Penzance to St Ives and Truro).. i genuinely thought they were about to add Truro-Falmouth, which would have been perfect and been an amazing little network, and i was really surprised they added Truro-St Austell instead, i always thought that was a missed opportunity for Rivet, and in reality i barely touch WCL these days as it feels like a waste driving the extra 20 minutes to St Austell, when we could be driving the Class 150 down the branch line to Falmouth instead but anyway that's a whole other topic, for the two routes i'll go West Highland and something in East Anglia
Even tho I love steam engines. I really hope we dont keep seeing them until the issues with full manual firing and the safety valve are sorted out!!
I made a suggestion from Fort William - Mallaig with the Jacobite so could be a possibility I think a Black 5 (Keep it original) or a Standard 4 (Keep it Standard)
Won't happen but I think the LNER K4 is a much better choice. The class was designed specifically for the West Highland line, and the sole survivor of the class (named "The Great Marquess") has worked the Jacobite in preservation several times, to the point where I'd argue it's the individual loco most associated with the tour. It would also be great coming after Flying Scotsman, being another engine designed by Sir Nigel Gresley.
I’m just hoping that whatever it is, that Rivet have asked DTG to do the rolling stock physics and audio mixing, like Skyhook did for the 158. Rivet make some nice looking stock, but the physics on almost all of their DLC feel off compared to the rest of the game. Personally, I wish they’d focus on Swiss routes rather than make more UK content, now that we have JT and ATS on board to cover UK as third parties. JT’s Blackpool route is looking to be something really special, and the best third party UK DLC for TSW.
I don’t think “The Great Marquess” will come anytime soon. That locomotive is unfortunately going to be stuffed in a museum alongside Union of South Africa, and as there are no other members of the class remaining, there’s not many options for getting authentic sounds for it. Would love to be proved wrong though, it’s a great locomotive! As for the A4’s, they’re way too iconic to leave out of TSW. I’m sure we’ll see them eventually, I’m hoping we’ll have them feature in a route set during the era of the original LNER. A different section of the ECML set in steam era would be nice. I’d much rather DTG make that though!
The Class 158 has 1,100 HP The Class 156 has 1,000hp The 158 barely beats it but yes technically it is more powerful. The 156 sounds more powerful though tbh. Loudness Class 156= 90Db Class 158= 75db
That wasn't too bad. I haven't found a single bug with it tbh. My only complaint is that it seems a bit of a waste of money.
If dtg and other partners are only going to make for England then I think it's good that we have someone that is making content for Scotland as well as Switzerland.
The problem is, Edinburgh to Glasgow is quite a poor DLC. The 385 puts me off it, from the running sounds to the weird physics, I highly doubt it accelerates that fast IRL. Cathcart is a much better quality release, which Rivet did the scenery on but DTG did the stock. I’d personally rather have Rivet work on Swiss content, which they specialise in on TS Classic and leave the UK content to the devs that put out the higher quality releases. The 150 really leaves a bad taste, I just don’t want any future UK stock to suffer the same fate.
Don't think I will be buying another route from Rivet unless they improve there product after the disaster they done with wcl and the 150 sound which they've just left and not bothered to do same with Edinburgh and Glasgow
Based on my passenger experience it does accelerate that fast irl. The sounds aren't the best but their pretty close and are getting an upgrade soon. Tbh, the only thing that's out of place for me is no smart P.I.S, no proper voice for announcements and not enough traffic and Waverly and queen Street. Apart from that it's a good replica of the irl route
The 158 is also much faster, so it makes much better use of it's little bit extra. I love them both though don't get me wrong.
Yea. Lol. Same. I'm only slightly more fond of the 156 as it's my local. But they are both really good.
One big issue for me is the warning flashes. Its a tiny thing really but thats why I find it such an issue. It would be such an easy fix yet we are stuck with period incorrect warning flashes that take up half of the back of the tender. I only bought the pack so I could run Leander on other routes but overall it is not worth the money at all. There seems to be a somewhat half-assed attitude to accuracy at Rivet. I’m not saying that they can’t make good content because they can, and they have proven that with routes like IOW22. What I can’t understand though is how stuff like the 37 can be so wrong. The headcode box is still mounted too high on the nose after nearly 2 years of the DLC being out, an issue that was flagged before release yet Rivet didn’t ignore it they actually denied it in a forum post. Anyway, I went on a bit of a tangent/rant there . Lets hope that Rivet’s upcoming content stands up with their better releases.
Hopefully rivet games are not doing anything hilly, like the west highland line, I don't trust them with hills especially after arosa, and if they were to do the 156 for it, the model would be decent but the sounds would be, questionable, as is the pattern with most of their routes
Yea. Their train modelling skills are usually good but like, I really hope they leave the sounds to dtg if they make it.
I do think rivet needs to learn sound implementation either off skyhook or DTG. It's why I refuse to buy most rivet products because the sound design is just that poor. But like there modelling skills are quiet good. I mean E-G looks beutiful and there train models are often stunning.
Yeah, I agree. Especially the Welsh Marches, I don't want Rivet doing Shrewsbury! Leave that for DTG, JT or ATS please.
Strange thing is, I actually quite like Arosa particularly in certain lighting conditions it is sublime. The loco could do with some physics work to eliminate the jerky transition when you start or change speed and of course the tinny clatter of the rolling stock is legendary. However overall it’s a better experience than WCL and the 150/2. In fact I’m still hoping Rivet are working away on a portion of the Albula Line or, the absolute cream cake - the Bernina Line from St Moritz down to Tirano. I’d buy that to the standard of Arosa in a heartbeat especially with a 4x or 5x electric Railcar (not so keen on the Allegra).
What do you mean with smart PIS? Also would like to know why PIS is so high on everyones priority list? Not saying it is not important but I don't remember me ever swearing on PIS
PIS itself is the display inside the passenger trains or at stations. Rivet are doing well with the pis at stations but on trains we only get the final station name whereas with dtg and other partners we'd get the proper real life display with scrolling station list and btp and etc... Rivet need to learn this. I was disappointed with the display on Edinburgh to Glasgow and IOW as it's very unrealistic.
