Track is track. In Scenario planner I can run any train on any route I like (subject to electric-power compatibility); that indicates that the train only cares that there is steel under the wheels.
I think they said the biggest issue was that different versions of the locos performed differently, so it would have broken the timetables. That’s why I’d very much support leaving what can’t be fixed where it is, and rectify the issue going forward.
Yeah, would also have been great to have 5 years of experience with UE4 and a team of the size they currently have, but it is not what happened.
Nope. There are different versions of the track lying system. Some have adhesion, some dont, etc ... Depending on the weight of the train and weather you can get different results. A service that works fine with a version of the loco could potentially not work with another. Again, many things to consider and this is just with 1 example.
I have a question for all TSW4 pre-orderers and buyers: Do you think DTG has developed Train Sim World 4 from scratch? No, they took the old engine from Train Sim World 3 and added features so you pay again for the small new features. And that is the reason why I am not buying Train Sim World 4. I mean, they could have put the features in TSW 3 via patch and special feature for the long time customers and make the money with the new Routes. But no... they add a few lines of code to Gameengine, change the HUD a bit and it's supposed to justify these prices. Yes they even bring updates for Routes/Timetables that were available for TSW3 but again... only if you spend money on Train Sim World 4. I don't really want to use the word scam. So either they drop it altogether and develop a new game, or they should refrain from such attempts to take people's money away.
There releasing TSW4 before TSW3 has even been out a full year.Would anyone really be surprised if TSW5 is already being planned.already.
Do I disagree with the marketing plan? Yes, because I think another strategy would serve DTG better in the long term.. Am I outraged? No, because the marketing plan is still rational, and the bundle pricing frankly is a very good deal- three routes for the price of one, with the upgrade effectively free. Am I boo-hoo-hooing over it? No, because I'm not six years old.
Please tell me you’re taking the piss. I think I can speak for a lot of people who don’t have seemingly endless money to spend on virtual trains when I say that the routes should be cheaper. TVL for example is 30 quid, over 4 years old and not built to a high standard; with that much money I could buy a whole game, sometimes even for cheaper: Minecraft is 10 euros less! I barely buy routes because of this high cost as, like I mentioned earlier, there is better stuff to splurge on; if a route was, say, €10, I would probably buy routes much more often, resulting in me having paid more in total than I would’ve at their current price. For a lot of games this tactic could not work due to the cost of development, manufacturing, distribution, and other factors, but TSW and its DLCs are virtual, meaning only development costs remain; don’t fire back with your “development is expensive and also I would like to donate my kidneys to DTG” bs because I am almost certain that they would make more money from sales if stuff was not as extremely expensive as it is which could easily outweigh the development — it’s pivotal to the success other games have had. No one would buy Mario if you had to pay €36 for worlds 1-3, and an extra €30 for each world up to 8.
I think it is a very good deal. If I wanted more routes and I liked the look of the upcoming routes, I'd pay for it. As it stands, I don't want or need any new routes. I have many, most of which I bought for TSW2, and I still haven't scratched the surface with them. The only routes I have for TSW3 are the ones it was bundled with, and those are good routes. But the only reason I bought TSW3 was for a more functional save game - a save game that allows me to resume and actually finish the run. So I had no choice but to upgrade because a major fix was put behind that pay wall. The same thing has happened again: potential fixes for current content have been put behind a pay wall again, with the lure of we will hopefully fix these issues but still not guaranteed. I don't have the incentive to buy into that this time around, and I don't agree with that tactic either (which isn't boo-hooing; I think it's a reasonable viewpoint to have). But indeed, on the surface, it's a good deal for anyone who doesn't mind.

This is just one of several false claims people are parroting. TSW3 was released Sep. 6, 2022; TSW4's release date is Sep. 26, 2023.
You're essentially complaining that you have to pay money for content. 3 levels of a Mario game are infinitely easier to develop than a TSW DLC... If you were to boot up Mario Maker you could do one in about 30 mins (if going all out)... A TSW DLC takes months. You are taking the piss now, aren't you? I certainly hope so...
I mean, you don't need 5 years of Unreal Engine experience to realize that the way it has been done is stupid and contraproductive. Any basic programming course will teach you to do everything by shared libraries as often as you can, to minimalize the risk of... well, what exactly is happening with TSW. And the devs at DTG should have already known this, considering TSC used shared libraries as well, like the basic scenery packs, or the EU/US loco packs. They have admitted it themselves that the only reason they did it this way is because they didn't want risking breaking old content when making something new - like fixing something on a locomotive for a new route release, only to realize it broke something on the old route. But this just screams poor faith in your own work, and also proper testing procedures (both unit testing and play testing) could minimalize this risk. In the end, I'm pretty sure they would've had left issues by doing things the proper way. But they choose this path, for some reason...
I think all of this you just wrote supports what I said. They did not have enough experience. They did not feel confident enough at the time. They probably couldnt spend enough time to do it the complex way, etc ... Been there, done that.
You are making it sound like it's not their fault, like somehow it's an excuse. But long story short, they simply made bad decisions and a bad job with this aspect of the game.
Sure they could have done better. Happens to each of us everyday. I'm not here to judge them. Just give my 2 cents about how I think they should go forward.
[EDIT - Jan - Language] How in any way asking for reasonable prices on faulty goods a complaint that medium of exchange should be abolished? Also, this is kind of nitpicking, but I stated worlds (which can be large and complex 3D levels), not levels, so I hope this doesn’t rise again between us, because all in all, DTG won’t read these posts and continue selling overpriced content and glitchy games;[EDIT - Jan - Quarrelsome]
What an absolute scot you are ...Wait, wouldn't that be compliment if you were Scottish? Like, the most patriotic, heritagely* proudest Scot that ever was? *Not a word, I know
Reminds me of a sketch/routine from some comedy show that my failing memory can't recall the name of. Literally any object can be turned into an insult simply by prefixing the word 'absolute' to it: "You absolute yoghurt pot" "I can't believe you're such an absolute AWS lever" "Stop being such an absolute vaccum brake" Brilliant
That is probably going to be my plan as well. In Sept 2024 will all the DLC released from today (like ECML) be available in TSW5? I would hope so?
As per this thread title it's a growing club. TRAIN SIM WORLD TRAIN SIM WORLD 2020 TRAIN SIM WORLD 2 TRAIN SIM WORLD 3 TRAIN SIM WORLD 4 (Wait it shouldn't be on this yet. It's not out.BUT as soon as it released it days are numbered.most likely less then a year.Enjoy it fast because TRAIN SIM WORLD 5 closer then you think). O i almost forgot Dovetail Games has discovered a easy new revenue stream. NEW GAME = Equals More money spent on said NEW GAME in order to get people to pay for more fixes for issues with previous DLC. I know in business it's about making money by coming up with new revenue opportunities but this is low by even normal business practices.
It was a huge mistake, in my opinion, to not update/fix TSW2 before the subsequent releases. Every single one of us knows that TSW2 is the prototype and the base for anything that came after; without TSW2, there would be no TSW3 or 4 or 78. But now that the new pattern has emerged, and many others have accurately described it, so I won't - TSW2's DNA and legacy continues through it as a game that was never fully fixed, even though the fixes were available.
Let's face the facts TRAIN SIM WORLD 2 was a glorified beta and not a official game.If it was it would have been better fixed instead of parked before it's time was truly over.
When your colleagues are working their proverbials off I think the last thing you need to apologise for is the time its taken to get to this point. As a communication team, Im sure you're only working with what you've got, and if you haven't got the complete picture for whatever reasons, its going to be difficult. DTG have been learning and are still learning how best to make and develop content for TSW. I think thats a fair comment to make. Given that, I do think that better options have existed and continue to exist to better explain the rationale behind why TSW4 exists. You've got to go deeper than 'nice mountains, pretty raindrops' if you want people to understand to the point where they dont think you're milking them. Just my two pennies worth as someone who felt that way two days ago but who now kind of understands.
Yes, all built onto the same spine. Fixes could be applied to any of them, at any time. But improving an old version does not help sell annual new versions.
That last part was ironic, maybe I should’ve made that more obvious; I may have went a bit overboard with my comment but I still stand by the opinion that it wouldn’t kill DTG to make their content a little bit cheaper.
It's been cheaper since the beginning. It hasn't dawned on me until now that by releasing rushed broken bugged technical issues DLC DTG has been able to charge way less then they would have done had there DLC been fully tested and in a better release condition for release. What great discount DLC.Aaaaaaa thx. Yea yea i know DTG is always under a time crunch to get DLC out by a pre determined date but that not a good business move and can negatively affect a companies future profitabilty.Plus it's not gonna help draw in new players easley or offen if they see this is there standard operating procedures.DTG has stated for years they try and learn from there mistakes and not repeat them.Hmmmm I'm guessing they haven't learn this yet.
What this actually means is that everything that's broken in 2 will stay broken permanently. Everything that's currently broken in 3 may be fixed but most likely will remain broken permanently. Everything that's broken in 4 this time next year when 5 releases may be fixed but will most likely remain broken permanently! I get the feeling that DTG not fixing broken achievements is the reason there isn't a gamepass release for 4!
If they didn't LIE then why months ago did they say "All the work is done it just needs a window to be released" Either its been one very very long lie, or the team is the worst bunch of incompetents in the gaming sector.
Make the TSW version increments free so anyone who has TSW2 and still plays that version has NO REASON WHATSOEVER TO DO SO.
I haven't trawled through the hours of streams so I apologise if any of this is obvious. Many of these new features have been on the roadmap since the roadmap became a thing. How come these haven't been added to TSW3, is there a new game engine upgrade? I thought TSW3 was an improvement from TSW2 that would go the distance and have these new features added and for the short amount of time I played it, Tsw3 looked and felt good. So why the short lifetime, I get that maybe a huge system update to TSW3 might have completely broken TSW3 like rush hour did to TSW2. Also, TSW3 for 8th gen was problematic, you're selling TSW4 on 8th gen and it has limitations, will it be stable and at least playable without crashing constantly or being victim to poor performance? Will we get an 8th gen demonstration? I like the new features and the new routes all I want to know is can 8th gen handle it even with the imposed limitations.
I heard MS like achievements to be fixed for stuff on game pass so it does make you wonder and I don't think the achievements are that difficult to fix if a route has only 99 collectables like on PS4 and base xbox one spirit of steam just change the achievement to 99 or even half the collectables of a route so it unlocks in the event a few go missing I just did something as a test I looked on True Achievements and PSN profiles to see if any difference exists between the number of people who have unlocked a basic achievement / trophy between the two systems. These are the two most popular sites for PS and Xbox (the playstation True Achievements is not as pop as PSN profiles) any how take this with a pinch of salt as it cant cover everyone but I did find a HUGE gap between the number of people who had unlocked the 1 training module in TSW3 between the systems It is as follows Xbox (base and Series as they have a single list) 35,861 PS4 278 PS5 986 So PS in total is 1,264 So PS 1,264 compared to Xbox 35,861, remember PS has a much bigger install base. Take this with a pinch of salt in term of exact numbers but it looks like most of the people on Xbox were playing it on game pass question is did they buy any dlc after that or just have a quick go?
I suspect shared libraries would also reduce storage space so that each route wouldn't feel like you're downloading a whole game that just plugs into a central menu system. Perhaps there would also be efficiencies this way making things load faster? As it is TSW does get bloated if you have a lot of content. One thing I'm applauding Asobo with with their new FS2024 (not that DTG would have the same streaming capabilities). They're going to park more content server side to stream to the user rather than having more and more huge world updates that bloat up the overall sim's size and increases initial load times.
It's an interesting point. With a smaller user base each person must pay more into the system to keep the game worthwhile as a business. But as DTG pointed out and their financial sheet showed (somebody around here shared a link) , the user base grew with TSW3 over TSW2 yet they increased DLC prices (maybe to account for inflation). But at the same time their revenues dropped year over year. So more people were playing yet less were spending (or spending as much). Perhaps the sweet spot has not been achieved over the past year. Now with the loss of GamePass users who may have had a passing curiosity to try out the game do their revenues drop further? Perhaps with less day one purchasers out there you will see more frequent sales to make up for that. I guess you just need to keep your eye out over the next year for those cheapo sales to get your content fix. And remember, don't feel bad that you don't get new routes day one for cheap. You're not missing out on anything. You still have plenty of content in your library. Wait for the sale at your price point. Buy it for cheaper and get it in a more complete form with patches. You'll be better off. Don't feel bad, it's a win-win for you as a customer.
Perhaps things will change on Xbox with it not being on GamePass and new ownership by Focus. Time will tell. At the very least there are usually at least 1 or 2 bigger routes sales on Xbox per year.
