Rivets scenery and modeling skills are great. The 150 itself looks amazing, so did the 38 stock. I don't see the issues everyone else has with E-G, but I appreciate some are more bothered over exact realism than I. I think Rivet's main downfall is simugraph and sound. Not that I have any idea how it works either. But I'd like to see one of these rivet gameplay packs being freight on E-G
Honestly my only real problem with Edinburgh- Glasgow is the running sounds, especially in the cab. I know it's quieter than at launch, but it still sounds like there's a vacuum cleaner in the cab with you.
One thing I will give Rivet credit for, is they do seem to have a knack for crafting interesting scenarios, rather than just dressing up a timetable run with a bit of adverse weather.
156 units has Cummins engines at 285hp per coach. 158 has either a Cummins 350hp or 400hp unit. To add variety a Perkins 350hp was also fitted to some as part of the dual sourcing policy at the time for some parts.
About the sounds, since new rivet leave out the flange sounds. Didnt notice first but if its their "new" standard im skipping their content the hard way and wait for heavy sale. Sound is the whole impression, where you could even "ductape" a not 100% perfect physic. But its clearly rivets weak spot. On top what happend to their drivers? Its at lradt the 3rd or 4th dlc where trains (incl. A.i) have no visible driver...
Could one of the gameplay packs be an extension for e&g? Maybe Edinburgh/Glasgow to Dumblane and Alloa with a Class 170/158/HST?
One of the river routes could maybe be Kyle of Lochalah line?? Seems easy enough for them and like they can't mess up the sounds for the train. They just need to revamp the livery and interior and there set! (With ofc the route itself being built)
I definitely agree Rivet makes some really good models and game worlds so its nice to see them work with DTG in that respect as we know they can make really interesting worlds like the new IOW. Hopefully they can get their head around simugraph and maybe focus a little more on fixes for their stuff because if they could nail that they'd make some really nice content
Day 1 for me if true. Hopefully the full run and not like their associate Thomson did with the TSC version splitting in two at Poschiavo. I would still prefer the older rail cars over the Allegra but will take whatever is on offer.
Anything Swiss is be amazing! My favourites Rivet has already done in TSC would be: 3. Albula line 2. Surselva line 1. Gotthardbahn
Doubt it, WCL Steam and the RHB Ge4/4 anniversary are gameplay packs. An extension would be listed as such. It'll be something like a freight pack for E-G or something for WCL.
E-G has very little freight on the line represented, if it had included Falkirk Grahamston then we could have had some container/tanker freight running through via Cumbernauld. WCL is done to death IMO, it should be left alone or have a total rebuild, nothing in-between. The gameplay pack could be diesels on Peak Forest - Matt did say (if I remember correctly) that they have no capacity in-house to make this happen anytime soon but have been talking to 3rd parties about such an idea. Not so sure if Rivet would do this though - modern content is more their thing.
I'm pretty certain that a br green diesel pack for Peak Forest is what the new unnamed third party is working on.
The impression I got from either the announcement or the roadmap stream was that the Peak Forest diesels were the pack coming from the as-yet-unannounced third party in the 'six months plus' timeframe. I don't know who that might be though - possibly a moonlighting DTG employee in their evenings, or a TSC developer making the jump. Not sure who was known for doing first-gen DMUs and BR Green on that latter point though, apart from maybe Derek of Weardale / Teesdale fame. Someone who was paying more attention (or even better a DTG person) feel free to correct me on any of that though.
I wouldn't say so, Rivet have done just as much older content. Whatever year the WCL is supposed to be (because its certainly not 1991), 38 stock, Ge4/4 to name a few.
The era leads to the lack of Freight, up until the 90s Grangemouth dispatched tank trains to far more destinations. These included Bishopbriggs. Also Larbert had Cement traffic, Speedlink served Plean Caberboard, Alloa line had distillery traffic. Far more freight used the line North of Mossend through Cumbernauld towards Stirling and Perth also. My issue over the constant modern era DLC isn't just that the trains were personally more interesting it that's traffic flows had variety in destinations and consist never mind traction. If people think that the latest watered down version of the Edinburgh Glasgow main line is good then fair enough, I would still refer people to the TSC and MSTS versions and confidently predict that the TSW30 version will be Queen Street to Cowlairs with no trains and some forum members saying be greatful for that.....
I remember travelling out of Glasgow Queen Street in the late 70’s and there was a massive variety of traction. Ditto at Edinburgh Waverley. At that time the coal industry was still quite buoyant providing considerable rail traffic along with all the other heavy industry which is now either a shadow of itself or long since gone abroad.
Not always. While I don't own any of there content IOW 2022 looks REALLY good even if the rolling stocks physics are a little off. Rivet is really good with the majority of there scenary (Looking at you arosa), its just there sound design in which they falter. If you get sound mods and or enhancement mods with rivet content they turn into amazing routes.
I disagree, sure there are things that could have been done better like the class 150 audio/physics but I certainly wouldn't say that they content sucks.
While i don't always agree with Rivet (WCL should have added the Falmouth branch and not the rather pointless St Austell extension) they do produce good stuff (Edinburgh-Glasgow is an enjoyable route, and i often find myself going back to Arosa) so i think Rivet get more right than they get wrong to be fair to them
I will agree and add that the things they seem to get wrong often overshadow the good about their stuff as it is usually big things like sounds or physics.
Well that’s an intelligent and constructive observation. Their content has issues and in the case of WCL major issues. But I don’t see anyone else rushing to deliver the routes and traction they have. As noted previously, the only reason I didn’t buy EtoG is that the era and train don’t appeal. If they had done it as a backdated diesel era, even Sprinters, I would have bought it. Luzern to Sursee I plan to grab in one of the forthcoming sales and rather regret refunding on first attempt.
E&G has a good amount of freight actually. We do need an extension though cause the majority comes to and from there. It wasn't well represented in game and we could do with some more. Not all rivet content sucks Just the 150/1 mostly. And the 385 a little. But all of their modelling skills are brilliant! Just the sounds are an issue. There. That's my opinion.
My biggest issue with Rivet is the lack of urgency to fix issues. I would almost guarantee that if they delivered fixes to their dlc a month or so after release they would see their bottom line increase significantly. They are however not alone in this.
Indeed. Just had a quick run on WCL, the St Ives branch. The 150/2 is really no better as regards sounds and at this point probably a lost cause. However the branch still has the incorrect speed limit in the Up direction, 20 MPH only supposed to apply for the foot crossing between Carbis Bay and Lelant, then immediately after resume the 30 MPH line speed. However the 20 continues all the way to just outside St Erth. The route builder either forgot or failed to realise to apply the correct limit. This has been pointed out and never fixed. How about it Jasper_Rivet show us a little faith and at least fix this one item in return for us supporting your future products.
All Trains from Rivet has Bad Sounds or awful Driver physics, and Arosa als West Cornwall local looks really Bad
I disagree with both these comments. Rivet content is amongst my favourite routes to drive. I don't find issues with the sounds on the 150, and I also think the scenery for WCL is fine. The draw distance on Arosa is poor, yes, but I believe that's a core issue and only really noticiable on this route because of the unqiue open scenery, where most other routes are much more closed in and restricted.
It’s also important to mention that Arosa is 2 or 3 years old and by far the first routes with mountains. No one had experience with the Alps in this game so it was tested. I bet that the next mountainous route by Rivet will be amazing!
Arosa IMHO is not too bad, as I noted, in certain lighting conditions and they did a good job on the physical infrastructure. WCL looks okay... in the dark! The numerous issues with the scenery are well documented, it's best use is to give the classic diesel layer a bit of a thrash.
Yes. If you've never been on a 150 it's quite fun to drive! (Not sarcasm I genuinely agree with you!) Rivet routes are usually quite good. They've just let us down once or twice with a couple of UK routes. And these are minor sound issues and like maybe 1 modelling issue. Apart from that their a really good dev and you shouldn't think so bad of them.
I sign the 150 units I assure you the sound is not accurate. The scenic element of WCL unable to comment on due to not spending much time in the area. Listen to the 150 sounds in Train Simulator classic by APH and they have nailed it, this is how it should be
I don't particularly care if the sound isn't accurate to be perfectly honest. If it sounds convincingly like a diesel powered train, it's good enough for me. I'm used to SCS's Eurotruck where none of the engines sound remotely accurate so it doesn't bother me anymore. WCL is the one route I'm closest to fully completing. Only a few St Ives journeys left to do and its 100% on the 150/2.
Let's not forget the horrific sounds on the Class 385 which they promised to, and still haven't, fixed yet.
It bothers many people poor sounds. Believe it or not. Rivets 150 pretty much a waste of HDD/SDD space and I agree with many that the modelling looks decent so why get that right but be so bad with sounds.
You could be much more constructive than saying it all sucks, i for one am certainly not optimistic for any of their future DLC. IoW 2022 is probably the best they’ve done, I can’t point out any glaring issues with it, and for the price, niggles such as livery etc don’t bother me. Don’t have the original IoW so I can’t comment on that. The rest of their content though leaves a lot to be desired. Sursee - Lucerne is ok overall, and to a causal player it’s probably great, but the ECTS implementation is not great. WCL is just a mess of era’s & the 150 is mediocre. I wouldn’t say the above routes suck, in fact they’re probably in line with the average quality of a TSW DLC. E-G though is just appalling, the 385 is downright terrible all over. Arosa comes right in with E-G although this one comes with the added disappointment of the scenery. IMO Rivet focus too much on the stuff that isn’t important, working lifts/escalators, moths & other oddities need to come after everything else is boxed off. It’s not what your average sim player buys into train sims for. To top it all off Rivet are glacial when it comes to putting out patches.
The signalling is a bit of a mess though, with distant signals "off" putting you on to a red in the same associated block (or green straight on to a red).
I have to disagree with you on IOW 22 and Edinburgh Glasgow. The fictional livery is a deal breaker for me. I absolutely refuse to drive that route without using a proper SWR livery from creators club. Apart from that it didn't really stand out as anything special. And E- G is in no way appalling. It's definitely my favourite route that they've done. My only issue is the 385 sounds, but even that isn't enough to stop me from enjoying it. It's still a well modeled, fun train to drive.
Can we stop putting down rivets work? This is supposed to be a speculation thread, not a complaint thread.
