So I’ve had the game since TSW1. And I am a little hesitant on which version of TSW4 to buy. I’m thinking of getting the Deluxe Edition and not going for the special edition since from the looks of it I have all of those Special Edition routes from TSW3. Is there anything in the special edition I would need?.
The deluxe edition will suit you fine there is no need to pay for something that has stuff you already own that comes with the special edition..
( Standard edition included routes and trains) East Coast Main Line: Peterborough - Doncaster Antelope Valley Line: Los Angeles - Lancaster S-Bahn Vorarlberg: Lindau - Bludenz (Deluxe edition included routes and trains) East Coast Main Line: Peterborough - Doncaster Antelope Valley Line: Los Angeles - Lancaster S-Bahn Vorarlberg: Lindau - Bludenz Nahverkehr Dresden - Riesa LNER Class A3 60103 Flying Scotsman Railpool BR 193 Vectron (Special Edition included routes and trains) East Coast Main Line: Peterborough - Doncaster Antelope Valley Line: Los Angeles - Lancaster S-Bahn Vorarlberg: Lindau - Bludenz Nahverkehr Dresden - Riesa LNER Class A3 60103 Flying Scotsman Railpool BR 193 Vectron (TSW 4 compatible routes and trains but come with the special Edition) Linke Rheinstrecke: Mainz - Koblenz Southeastern Highspeed: London Ashford & Faversham Northeast Corridor: Boston - Providence LGV Méditerranée: Marseille - Avignon
unless you don't want the soundtrack, wallpapers and early access, you can just buy standard edition and buy one of the deluxe locos after release if you want/need them, or buy one regional bundle (e.g. austrian starter pack, only including Vorarlberg's S-Bahn) which is probably even cheaper, but you'll lose some benefits as stated above
I brought the delux edition. For me it was just under £10 more expensive than std edition but you have the two extra locos (plus the early access). That worked well for me but everybody is different
You have to decide what's best for you, we won't solve it for you. For me, Standard edition was the best choice as I already own most of the routes incl. DRA, I don't play steam and the Vectron, though beautiful, is in my eyes just another german freight loco and I already got a ton of those + german freight seems a bit dull to me. On the other hand with standard I got three routes for 80% the price of 1 regular DLC route or double the price of one single train (the 700 for example), which is a bargain.
If it's a choice between Special and Deluxe, and you own the routes for Special Edition already, would recommend Deluxe (that's the differential between the packages - you'll still get Early Access/Discounts/Decals/Soundtrack (Steam only) on Deluxe).
If you have the routes from the special edition already, then deluxe would be better for you, it would save you money
I would say Deluxe, otherwise you will probably only end up having to go back in and buy the outstanding bits later. And at the Steam/PC pre-order price with discount, it's a snip really, not much more than one single DLC (or a single Run 8 route that comes with no new rolling stock).
Thanks for the suggestions. I’m going for the Deluxe. Suggestion to DTG: If the descriptions had information as to which routes and locos in each edition were new and which weren’t, I think it would be helpful.
If you have had the game since the original there is no need to buy the special edition. Its a bit worrying the amount of people asking this frankly: The special edition is for NEW players only.
I recommend to wait, maybe there are more "surprises" in the pipeline like todays sound situation of the öbb 4024.
even if you played for a while, if you dont have some of the routes and they interest you, then it might be worth getting it in a bundle.
