West Rhine: Köln - Koblenz - Country: Germany - Route Length: 93km - Operators: National Express, TransRegio/Mittelrheinbahn, Deutsche Bahn... - Maximum speed: 160 km/h This scenic route runs along the left bank of the Rhine River, connecting the vibrant city of Cologne with the charming town of Koblenz. It also immerses in some of the most beautiful landscapes Germany has to offer. It’s an interesting and varied experience, with the train passing through different terrains and offering views of both scenic river valleys (roughly between Koblenz and Bonn) and more open stretches of land (between Bonn and Cologne). In the modern and current state, the following trains could be included: - BR 462 / Desiro HC (Rhein-Ruhr-Express) RE5 (Regional Express): This service doesn’t stop at every single station but skips some of the smaller ones, offering a quicker way to travel between Cologne and Koblenz while still stopping at key points along the way. - BR 462 / Desiro ML (Mittelrheinbahn) RB26 (Regionalbahn): Stops at all stations along the route, so it's a slower service but perfect for those who want to take in all the views of the smaller towns and villages along the Rhine. A particularly interesting procedure is that between Koblenz and Remagen, all trains run as single units. In Remagen, however, trains either couple up into double or even triple traction for the continuation of the journey. On the way back to Koblenz they uncouple to single units heading toward Koblenz. This unique coupling/uncoupling process is a fascinating aspect, adding an extra level of realism and operational interest. - Talent 2 (National Express) RB48 (Regionalbahn): Runs between Cologne and Bonn-Mehlem, stopping at all the stations on the way (The images included here are NOT my own.) Possible layers: - IC/ICE traffic - Freight traffic
I'd like to see this, but a few years earlier when the line was more prominent. About 2001 would be modern enough (would use a lot of current rolling stock plus stuff from the older routes) but just before many of the services were moved to the new high speed line
Not a fan of the suggested rolling stock, but I'd like to see the route. I have fond memories of this route in TSC as it was my first route and got me into the hobby. Nice route.
Would absolutely love the rolling stock. Finally it would include some of the more modern rolling stock, frequently found nowadays. The scenery is also amazing and has some great stops between. Notable of them is Brühl with a nice castle, Bonn Hbf (former capital of West Germany), Bonn Bad Godesberg (one ICE stops here instead of Bonn Hbf), Rolandseck (stops only at some times of the day/week). It would give the option of ICEs starting/ending in Bonn and ICs traveling via Koblenz. Between Cologne and Hürth-Kalscheuren Eifelbahn (LINT) trains would supplement the roster and between Bonn Hbf and Remagen the trains to the Ahr valley (currently only to Walporzheim due to flooding in 2021).
Desiro ML is what sold me this proposal ... and we could then have it in OBB CityJet livery and finally drive realistic CJX9 on Semmeringbahn <3
