I wanted to make a definitive suggestion, yes it’s highly requested, but I have a lot of love this route as it is something I would love to see in TSWz Train Sim World 4: Modern Great Western Mainline (London Paddington to Bristol Temple meads via Bristol Parkway) LAMP: Licensing (we already have the GWR license in TSW. I’m not gonna assume DTG have lost it because it’s clearly a rumour). Anticipation: Players have been requesting for a revisited Great Western Mainline route for years. It is clearly popular and highly requested which would make it an instant fan favourite as it includes a highly requested train in game and is an amazing route, following the original great western mainline. Mix - It gives a lot of gameplay as it is a very busy mainline with loads of different service patterns and varieties. It could also include a dynamic events feature in which the driver might have to make use of the bimode flexibility of the 800 due to an OHLE failure (as an example). There is also a good variety of faster non stop express services and a balance of slower commuter services along with freight and special chartered routes. Prominence - The great western mainline is a 4 track mainline that runs between London and Swansea with branches to the West Country and the Cotswolds. It is also one of the busiest mainlines in Britain, and the commercial appeal of the route is huge as it covers two capitals and multiple of the UKs busiest cities. It is a vital link between England and the West Country/ Wales. Type of Railway: 125mph high speed mainline. Electrification is present between London and Bristol Parkway with diesel required for last 10 mins of runtime. Total Runtime: 1 hour 30 (fastest), 2 hours (slowest) Type of OHLE: 25KV AC overhead line, series 1 from fuller and Frey. Safety Systems. AWS, DSD, Vigiance and ATP. Service Pattern: high frequency, with faster trains being priority, along with commuter and freight, should have about 750 daily services (driveable) Videos of the route (TS) (In Real life) Route Description: The Great Western Mainline from London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads spans 117 miles, featuring 27 significant stations. Set in the year 2022, this simulation offers an immersive experience of one of the UK's most iconic railway routes. It showcases a mix of urban environments and breathtaking countryside scenery. Rolling Stock: 1. Class 800/802 IET (Intercity Express Train):The backbone of the mainline, offering high-speed electric/diesel services for long-distance travel. 2.Class 387: Electrified suburban services, serving passengers on shorter journeys. 3. Class 66:Freight locomotives, enabling players to take on the challenge of hauling goods along the route. 4. Class 158: A DMU used on regional runs. They run Cardiff - Portsmouth services. They would be a great layer for Bristol temple meads station 5. Class 43: A locomotive powered high speed train that runs from the West Country into wales and beyond. The former premier intercity train on the great western mainline. 6. Class 166 run on Thames valley branches and run on the line from Swindon and turn off the mainline at Bristol Parkway. They also run the Severn beach services. Important Stations on the line 1. London Paddington: the southern terminus of this route, already implemented in train sim world. It is served by great western railway and the Elizabeth line 2. Slough: Just on the boundary of London and Berkshire, it is the first major stop of some intercity services from GWR. It is also a major stop for Elizabeth line services and has a short branch line towards Windsor. 3. Reading: This is the first major stop of the mainline. It is also the final stop for the Elizabeth line. Here the mainline splits into four branches - the berks and Hants, reading to basingstoke, the mainline, and the south western services from Reading (via Staines) it is also has the north downs line which runs from Reading to Gatwick Airport. It is served by South West Trains, Great Western Railway, Cross Country and the Elizabeth Line. It is 38 miles away from Paddington 4. Didcot Parkway: Here is another bustling large town in the game. It is where the mainline once again splits with the Cotswold line diverging off towards Oxford. It is served by great western railway. It is a terminating point for most of the GWR commuter. It is 53 miles away from London 5. Swindon: Swindon is a major railway junction where the mainlines diverge once again. In this case they diverge towards Gloucester and on towards Worcester to join the Cotswold line, it is served by great western railway. It is 77 miles away from Paddington. It is also not far from wotton Bassett junction 6. Bristol Parkway: A station located just outside Bristol, in the county of stoke Gifford. It is served by great western railway and cross country services to the West Country and Wales. It is served by all intercity trains as well as 166s that run to and from Bristol. It is 111 miles from London Paddington. The route should also include the Stoke Gifford IEP depot. 7. Bristol Temple Meads: This is located in Bristol and is the final stop of this route. It is 117 miles away from Paddington and is a very busy hub station with links to the West Country, The Midlands, Somerset, Scotland and Wales. It is served by great western railway, it is a huge station, so there should be variety Timetable: - The simulation includes a realistic timetable, allowing players to experience the daily operations of the Great Western Mainline. - Frequent high-speed services connect London Paddington and Bristol, catering to both commuters and long-distance travellers. - Suburban trains, represented by the Class 387, run at shorter intervals, making stops at stations such as Reading, Swindon, and Didcot, providing vital connections. - Freight services, using Class 66 locomotives, operate during specific hours, delivering goods to various destinations along the route. - Nighttime journeys provide a unique challenge, as visibility decreases and schedules become more demanding. Scenarios: 1. Express Commute: Assume the role of an IET driver, taking passengers on a high-speed journey from London Paddington to Bristol Temple meads . Manage the train's speed and schedule precisely. 2. Suburban Challenge: Control a Class 387, making multiple stops between Swindon and Paddington during rush hour. Balance punctuality and passenger satisfaction. 3. Freight Hauling Mastery: Operate a Class 66 freight train, transporting cargo from Bristol Parkway to destinations like Swindon and Didcot Parkway. Handle shunting, loading, and unloading. 4. **Nighttime Dispatcher:** Experience the complexity of managing nighttime services, maintaining safety and schedule in challenging conditions. Features: 1. Dynamic Weather: Realistic weather conditions, including rain, fog, and snow, impacting visibility and traction. 2.Day/Night Cycle: Witness the transition from day to night, affecting lighting conditions and operational challenges. 3. Detailed Cab: An authentic cab with intricate controls, indicators, and instrumentation. 4. Passenger and Freight Operations: Manage passenger loading, unloading, and onboard announcements. Handle cargo logistics for freight services. 5. Authentic Audio: High-quality audio, including engine sounds, station announcements, and ambient noises, enhances immersion. DLC Potential: 1. Extended Routes: Expand the mainline further, introducing new stations and experiences in the west of England or additional connections in Wales. 2. Additional Rolling Stock: Include more variations of trains, such as the Diesel Legends of the Great Western, and BR Heavy freight and 150 from rivet. 3. Branch Line Adventures: offer players the opportunity to explore picturesque branch lines branching off from the mainline. Like the mainline via Chippenham, and the Severn beach branches Train Sim World 4's Great Western Mainline simulation provides players with an in-depth and immersive experience of one of the UK's most iconic railway routes, offering a wide range of scenarios, rolling stock, and opportunities for expansion through DLC. Feel free to give thoughts
Assuming that DTG's license with TfL could be expanded to include other aspects of the rail operations there, it'd be cool to include the Elizabeth Line too.
Yet again I bring attention to the missing branch lines along the existing section as nobody seems to mention them or the extra variety of passenger and freight operations they would bring. Otherwise a good suggestion albeit a little ambitious. Swindon, Didcot or Oxford would be more logical endpoints from London Paddington.
I agree, branch lines should be included and I think swindon would be the best place to end as most services stop there, and its also along the mainline rather than oxford which is off the mainline and doesn't have many services which go there
Other routes get the love but this route is so very neglected by comparison. Please please please can someone bring GWE into parity with newer releases.
This is a must for any remake of the GWML - most of these lines are very short, but they're packed full of detail and would make for hours of additional timetable services, scenarios and exploration.
I wanted to include branch lines - so probably all the Thames valley branches should be included to give the route more life
Around 81 miles. The Thames Valley branches total around 40 miles combined if memory serves me correctly.
It would certainly be useful to know if this is truth or rumour so that we can settle ourselves as to whether or not we will see GWR content going forward.
Excellent idea overall end speaking of the class 387 you can use it to finish the Brighton version achievements in return GWML Class 166 layer to BML for Reigate to Gatwick North Downs line services. Downloadable content class 93 Electro diesel or Class 59 shed
Do class 387 services even go beyond Newbury. I thought that was as far as they went from Paddington?
