I am very familiar with the UK railway signalling system, however trying to learn the American one so I can drive LIRR without the signal displayed on the HUD.
Am I correct in thinking that a vertical bar of yellow lights is proceed, a horizontal bar danger, a diagonal bar is the equivalent of a yellow signal?

What is with all the lights in tunnels that show both a red and a green on a T shaped unit?

Also, sometimes In the HUD it tells me that I am closing in on a signal, but there does not appear to be one on a gantry or visible at the track edge I missing the signal displayed somewhere?

Check out this post from cActUsjUiCe, he build a comprehensive LIRR signal and ACS/ACSES guide:

    Helped me quite a lot.

If you're also interested in NEC, I can recommend this guide for signals:

and this post for everything that's wrong with the safety systems in TSW:

I was wondering about this, as well. My theory, this has to do with speed changes, as these invisible signals tend to be at code change points (see in the LIRR guide posted above). These seem to implemented as signals to make them work in TSW.
