    Hey

i've just read the update at the bottom of this page:

    https://dovetailgames.freshdesk.com...001087547-east-coast-main-line-gameplay-guide

That says 8th gen will not get layers for the upcoming new routes:

"Timetable layers are applicable to 9th Gen Consoles & PC only."

can someone from dtg confirm if this is true and we (8th gen) won't get ANY layers?

i was personally looking forward to class 158 on the ECML. I understand we may not get all available layers being on 8th gen.. but the class 158 on ECML would be a real miss!

That's more of a disclaimer than a confirmation, just to assuage any fears. We'll amend the copy on there to make it a little more 'friendly'.

As far as I'm aware (and if this changes we'll let you know):
    • Antelope on Gen8 and Gen9 has same layers
    • Vorarlberg on Gen8 and Gen9 has same layers
    • ECML has a slight difference, mainly around AI stock at Doncaster Works - but we will confirm full layers list next week with an article (can confirm 158 services are in though). As far as I'm aware, playable content is not affected.
This is down to performance impact on older devices.

It's worth noting as well that Gen8 will not have Volumetric Fog, and Gen9 can toggle it on or off.

thanks a lot JD that's much better to know! I appreciate you taking the time to clarify that so thank you.

i personally cannot wait to see/hear about the full timetable including the ai layers for the ECML.. it's going to be a long week or so waiting for this to release!

Also just to follow up on this JD, can we please have a full and detailed list of layers/timetable services provided at some point for the ecml? Either on the stream or an upcoming article.. basically as much detail about what is (or isn't) included would be really useful!

i'm personally hoping for some class 158 ai services at Grantham (nottingham to skegness platform 3), Newark (either platform 3 or using the flat crossing, or both) or Doncaster (platform 5)

We'll provide as much detail as we can with the article next week (and stream), and update the Gameplay Guide article accordingly.

Xbox One X is getting volumetric fog I thought? It was said that had enough power to enable that setting. That's gen 8.

The more announcements that are made the more confusion there seems to be...something wrong there.

I'll double-check tomorrow morning. I sometimes use 'Gen8' as a catch-all term, forgetting there are upgraded versions of the older devices.

To confirm: Xbox One X WILL have volumetric fog, plus all 9th-Generation consoles. Apologies for any confusion.
