Putting aside all the comments on whether it's right to buy yet another version of TSW, I wanted to talk about the so-called "loyalty" discount. Generally I took such discounts to mean it was a reward for your continued support, and that such a reward would be exclusive to existing customers. Does that loyalty discount feel and look quite so tempting, when a new customer, having never owned a previous version of TSW, can buy TSW4 from Microsoft and Epic Games for £31.99, and from JoyBuggy (official Steam reseller) for £30.20? That makes the loyalty discount non-existent. Now, as these are all official stores, someone, somewhere has allowed TSW4 to be retailed at that price, and as DTG are the ones releasing "stock", as it were, I have to assume they are the ones who agreed to the prices. So, you have to question how a "loyalty" discount has been allowed to be cheapened to the point of worthless? Based on this, and noting how quickly TSW3 haemorrhaged price, there feels nothing to be gained by pre-ordering (unless of course you're a huge fan and have to have it on day one). As it happens, TSW3 was down to £29.99 one month after release, on Steam no less, and then down to £11.99 seven months later.
wanna pay the full price? buy TSW4 Special Edition on September 26th 18:00 BST with a new account, so you know what it is like.
There really are no " loyalty discounts ". The pre-order prices, early access and the other come-ons are just part of a marketing strategy to maximize initial sales of TSW4 by both old and new customers. Perfectly acceptable business practice. I hope it all pays off for DTG. It's certainly great from a player perspective.
That's the point, there isn't one - as it can be bought for £30.20 now, unless you consider £0.21 a discount.
As I'm getting three new routes with two additional locos on top for less than £40, I count that as a very satisfactory discount as opposed to paying nearly £50 for the Deluxe Edition. One new route now costs £30 and a loco pack from £12 to £15 so not even sure why we're having this debate again...
Yup, whatever issues with the release strategy as a whole, you can never debate the pricing of these bundles. If OP wants to go through a reseller (lol) for 0.21 of whatever currency, then they should go & do that.
idk what you are thinking behind that acc but the loyality discount on steam is formed of 15% discount. combining it with the other 10% discount for preorder makes it a quarter less of the price
With the deluxe edition your getting the upgraded game three routes and two locos for the cost of one route and one loco. There’s also a discount to boot. I don’t understand the problem
Well, I preordered and got no discount at all because to qualify for the discount on PS5 you have to be loyal to PS Plus (as in be a PS Plus subscriber) and not be a long-standing buy everything TSW player. So, there is no loyalty discount, there is a discount that you may or may not be entitled to based on arbitrary factors as dictated by your platform of choice and circumstance, and as that PS discount is based on being part of a paid subscription service it isn’t really a discount at all. DTG will say it is the best they could obtain but the marketing and FAQs put the PS Plus membership criteria in the small print (albeit in a large font) separate to and below the discount amount boxes. They shouldn’t call it a loyalty discount or imply that loyalty has anything to do with it. This is quite separate to the perceived value of the initial TSW4 packages with or without a discount as they appear to be quite reasonably priced to me, so I’ll step down from my soapbox now.
There can't be a loyalty discount if everyone gets it, even if they've never bought a DTG product before in their life. Plus it's not the same for everyone. It's really just semantics but let's call it a goodwill gesture. Then we're all happy.
Hey - just wanted to add in a bit of context here. We've worked with key distributors with a recommended discount, running parallel with other platforms. The website linked has made the decision to add additional discounts to their offering, independently.
I think most of us appreciate that with or without the discounts (25% is a great discount) the deluxe edition is exceptional value for money. Saving a few pence elsewhere isn't going to change that.
And you too are missing the point. You are not getting a loyalty discount. Those who have never owned the game can get the same savings and extra content for the same price as you - so how are you justifying the loyalty discount? A loyalty discount is a discount above and beyond what new owners will get, if you're not getting anything extra to those new owners you're being deceived. I guess the reason why you're is because you don't understand the word "loyalty". Companies love people like you, because random numbers in front of % symbols must be a good thing, right?
Yes, any discount is better than nothing. but if the same discount applies to everyone it is not a loyalty discount, it's just a discount, meaning any mention of the word discount is deception, and essentially false selling (it's certainly not ethical).
That's really helpful to know, but it really does diminish any "loyalty" to true fans. As you will surely be aware, loyalty means giving your dedicated fans something extra, or something special. If you allow other companies to "cheapen" that loyalty, how do you think it makes your fans feel? Even you must realise this is not a good stance on many levels, it certainly doesn't celebrate loyalty, it doesn't promote pre-orders (you lost my sale, I was really excited by the scenario editor), you could have imposed conditions preventing resellers from breaching a specific lower limit - by pounds, not pennies. Die hard fans will buy whatever, loyal fans with commitments will take a considered approach, and the rest will resort to whatever works for them (wait for sales, buy from key shops...). Perhaps in future, loyalty benefits should include exclusive items that will neve be available to those who have not bought before. That way resellers can sell for pennies, but true fans can really be rewarded in honesty.
