From the new thread in the Announcements forum: This is worrying. Seeing as how DTG promised an editor in the past and then cancelled it, I fear that we may end up seeing the editor being cancelled again.
I doubt it will be cancelled, not after all the hype and even setting up a sub forum specifically for users to discuss the various aspects and challenges.
Anytime some announcement like this comes up from DTG it worries people. (i.e. Rush Hour passengers will eventually come to BML, TSW2 fixes are imminent, etc.). Probably not the case here, but I understand the OP's feeling.
Oh, I completely get it. Matt and team are working on it though, and we'll update when we know more. The work is done, it's all about the last couple of finer details.
I can wait for a few days tbh - now I can concentrate on playing the new routes instead of going head first into the editor - I think the editor is going to be a big distraction for me....
whilst it was before my main time with TSW, I remember the editor was announced previously some years back and was called off, so I could understand if some of that “dread” was still about when something like any sort of delay to it or announcement of pushing it back for purposes of looking into it. Hopefully for those who wish to use it, it will be available soon.
The editor was no where near as advanced as it is now. There is a dedicated part of the forum for it now. They have actually announced it as part of TSW4 they hadn't got to that point before. They have said it might take a little longer to get it released which does not equate to cancelled. Cancelling it now (a second time) after it being officially announced would be a very destructive marketing ploy.
It’s just a “dread” that I presumed could be floating around, at the end of the day any feature only takes one fully breaking problem no matter how far things have been going. of course it’s most likely not the case.
This is such an enormous undertaking - routes, locos, editor and all the other peripherals like NYT, SEHS and DRA updates and stuff I can't even remember - that to expect it all to go without a few hiccups between tomorrow and next Tuesday would be testing reality. It'll be a frantic time for the CM's. Spare them a thought.
I thought this was supposed to be the same editor that the DTG devs use to create for the game. But presumably their versions start properly, as we have a new game coming. So is this actually different, and if so, how? Or did I misunderstand in the first place?
It is the same unreal editor dtg uses minus the licensed toolset that only 3rd party developers and dtg devs get access to. So you can lay track, create trains, timetables, scenarios and more. But if you have to create a brand new blueprint or modify a cooked route, you can't since that's down to dtg
