*During testing, we’ve identified crashes related to the updated timetable’s impact on different hardware – so, in order to allow players to enjoy the content, we’ve had to adjust the timetable from what we’ve previously mentioned in Roadmap articles. We will offer ‘standard’ and ‘light’ timetable options, which are recommended for 9th-gen and 8th-gen consoles respectively. I hope this doesn't mean that the full revision has been cut back. In other words, I hope that the " standard " timetable is Joe's original update. Or does this caveat apply only to consoles?
To clarify - when we've been testing, there have been crashing issues on both 8th and 9th-gen, and it's likely freight (which are all pretty much AI) will be removed from both, at least whilst we ensure the experience doesn't suffer. To manage expectations, it's highly likely 8th-gen will have further reductions, just because the memory on older hardware isn't as powerful. Still testing to make sure you have the most amount of content available to you - so all this is still yet to be fully confirmed, and we'll update with launch the final offering.
I really hope the freight doesn‘t get cut from 9th Gen altogether. Fingers crossed it‘s sorted. Would be dissapointing.
Joe likely won't be able to provide more info, as the content is being tested at the moment and we won't know the final outcome until the route on those platforms have a clean bill of health. Worst thing for me (or Joe!) at the moment would be to say 'this is what it's planned to be', and then testing means we have to adjust that. Appreciate you're keen for the information, but we'll share as soon as we know.
I think if you guys can Maybe push the Trenton Timetable Release To October?? I think people will understand To waiting One more month for better Testing Then to cut anything out Which In my opinion will make more people Upset...
Thanks for the prompt reply. We'll cross our fingers and I think I'll go to an extra Mass tomorrow morning just in case.
To be honest, it's not a testing thing - it's a memory thing with the layers enabled. Ultimately, there will very likely have to be some cuts, as there's too much there for even the high-spec devices to be able to handle it.
Perhaps limit a mix of traffic, not cutting the freight completly. I realise it’s difficult to please everybody however.
Thank you DTG JD. For further clarification, is the current working idea from DTG to provide separate timetables in the manner of those in SEHS, where a service completed in one timetable, also completes it in the other timetable? As for the freight, I think I understand it as a removal of "services" which you have rightly said are "mostly AI." My question is does this have anything to do with, or any known effect on, the inclusion of static freight stock, to the best of DTG's current knowledge? Thanks again.
I'm pretty sure my machine can handle anything you want to challenge it with. But I understand that many might struggle and you need to cater to all levels. The best solution for all these graphics / memory issues is to have sliders in the settings menus. But that's a whole 'nother question. I don't know if that's even possible on a console. Once again, many thanks for engaging with us on this important issue.
Hi JD, your post only mentions the console generations. Does that mean PC will still get the full AI freight layers or will that platform also have them removed?
In the past, when BML came out it was stated clearly that having 1 of a train is as memory intensive as having 100 of them. This was the justification for the many 377 services not being the cause of the issues. But when there is a second type of train that then adds additional memory overhead, so to reduce any memory issue you have to remove all of a type of train not just cut everything down a bit. You have to have fewer different types of trains running, rather than the same number of different trains but less of each type.
Like JD said, it's a memory issue which not everyone has. It was mentioned in the bml stream but each new train is really memory intensive. And when you have thousands of them running around, you start to get problems. Then you have to take into account the large assets like penn station for example. For the record, tsw for me will use at most 12gb of memory for a busy tsw route running on medium/high settings. I have much more than 12gb so there's no issue. But if you don't have 12gb or more of memory, then you run into problems. Not every console has that much memory or every pc player especially if they only barely meet minimum specs. So testing it longer to make it work wouldn't really work in that case.
Well, might have to take back on what I said about the new Trenton timetable now if there's no freight in this update anymore, even if it's just 1 playable service with a few AI to a small mix.
Can we have the option on PC at least for the full unedited timetable? I don't really see my PC running out of memory, unless you have some massive intenal issues, considering I've got 64GB of DDR5 ram.
This is not what I wanted to hear. Not sure what the final services were for NYT ,but London commuter has 4800+ and runs on both my Xbox and PC with no issues. Hopefully it will get sorted out.
Tried to tell yall lol....they not going to give a fair share of quality for US content like they do UK content, and like you quoted London Commuter has 4,000 services( more AI of course) in the game...No excuses!!
I knew they wasn't going to do it, maybe it might delay til next month or so.. That's why I said I believe it when I see it( from contents videos on youtube or so), cuz you can't trust DTG's word regarding US passenger content involving through New York lol
This was the only reason I got TSW4. All this comes out one day before early release and 6 days before full release. Doesn’t make sense. Even SEHS is busier. It was to good to be true…….
Probably cuz the trains in new York trenton are much more memory intensive compared to bml and sehs ones? Or maybe because there's lot more going on like the complicated signaling, large station and everything being concentrated in 1 area. Idk details but dtg are the ones doing the testing and noticed crashes. If it got released and caused crashes people would still complain and there's no win win situation
That's a bit out of reach Especially considering The points people made above With Brighton mainline And southeastern high-speed alone.Brighton mainline I can understand Due to the massive timetable 4000+ Ai services And Southeastern high-speed Did you get 600+ playable services,Along 5+ different rolling stock. Forgot to point out Both of those routes are Alone Have a variety of branches Making for even unique Journey. Trenton To New York Only has about 200 Playable services And a mention of 400 to 500 Non-playable Ai Services.I'm on PlayStation 5 And from what I know Ice trains Are the most memory intensive Assets You are still able to get a lot of variety And services Including in the new TSW 4 Upgraded version,Which understandably Could be the reason why it's unplayable For Sony at the moment. Now going back to New Jersey Timetable When it comes to the length Of the route Similar in length To the ones I've mentioned And possibly even less With the given emphasis on the amount of playable services We have now Are Very light When compared To its predecessors.I will say this In my opinion, I do understand There are many other projects That have to happen And Joe cant do everything But if I may reference Back when rush-hour was a released Disaster With the Harlem Line Red lights , Brighton mainline Absent of rush-hour passengers/ Crashing due to memory And Reisa Dresden Falling short of its Two branch lines. Harlem Line Received A small Fix While Dresden Received its second branch line And Brighton mainline Received A hold For better optimization To the best of Their ability.. Lastly want to add The 2 London Underground Timetables To try and fix It's Unfortunate Downfall. Back to Trenton To New York Penn With the overwhelming amount of Constructive criticism By the masses A overhauled timetable In my opinion Is the only right thing to do Especially to the many Consumers Who Paid $40! I believe This Will be The biggest And best US Passenger route Inside TSW If they can somehow figure out The what I believe to be Pathing issues Dovetail Still happens to struggle with Inside American Routes. Now for your Memory issues I have left out the map In a few different sections Where I will leave the video below Of many sections That can literally be deleted To better optimize And allow us to have everything all at once Hypothetically!! Sorry for the long read but I must Say This 1 for me is Close to Home Literally And it's about time We at least get one good thing out of this And the only way that's possible Is with the help of the community & With the patience of the developers! I don't see the reason why The timetable has to be Rushed/released on the 26th When In reality It can possibly be A more complete/ Working Ready release In October.. none of the extra scenery you will see in this video is needed or necessary as it is out of visible range to the actual players. This is just one of the examples out of another video that explains another two but I think I've written enough for this post.
i just have 2 questions, when will these “ issues” be resolved, and will we get the full timetable WITHOUT freight ?
They will say the fixes are coming for the next year until TSW5 comes out and then the fixes wont come.
i think us as a community pay too much for such sub par content. it’s truly a shame that people are just now showing outrage over the way dovetail consistently throws horrible US content at us. i understand that you guys at dovetail work hard but it really doesn’t feel that way when we consistently are given garbage content. instead of rushing and releasing new games, maybe work on the ones you already have out, and fix the already existing bugs instead of giving us things we don’t want / need. it’s a shame that NEC was created so poorly, because the NJT franchise truly has so much potential. i think i speak for multiple people when i say that we in the US deserve better content. please continue to work on NEC, and use it as a lesson to help progress and build better US content. NEC was a disaster that could’ve been easily avoided. for any future content, we just ask that you give it your all. - Kahsi
Yet another occasion of a good and highly requested improvement having to be hamstrung by console limitations.
The point is not how many trains you have seen... But how many different layers is active... That means you see on London Comuter 4/5 different train "types" or called "layers" in NYT that are way more and that is heavy for the RAM usage that is needed. You can have 4000 Electrostars but never 40 different train types in TSW
I'm praying to the NEC train gods to have this ready to go by Tuesday. I have been waiting patiently since February I would had love to have AI freight on the route. At this point I'll take what I can as long as we have all the passenger services
See, this is exactly why you shouldn't pre-order digital video games based on empty promises. Especially when it comes to DTG...
Why did this turn into "pre-ordering is bad"? NYT's new timetable is neither a pre-order bonus or a TSW4 exclusive. They mentioned in the roadmaps that it would also be availible for TSW3
Other than them saying that it would come to tsw4. Also there is no guarantee that it would come to tsw3 considering DTG's history of lying to their customers.
Each route is built differently and support layers differently. If you think about it, the busiest station (london victoria) has 4 unique trains at once with the 465 being ai only and going off the map. Also remembering that each unique train uses up a lot of memory. Then you meet some freight going towards brighton. Then you have 166 services on the reigate branch and then the 43 ai. As you get closer to brighton, you see 313s. So it's not all present in one location. Sehs with all the new trains is built differently and is able to support all the trains without much issue on gen 8 and gen 9. There are some ai only differences and the tgv in the light and full timetable. Nyt has 7 unique trains running at once at penn station every hour since freight is infrequent. There are 8 unique train types (acs64, 2 cab cars, alp46, acela, m7, m3 sub, other ai services, freight, freight cars). Penn station is probably using a lot of resources along with sunnyside yard closeby. All we know is that dtg is running into problems during their testing on gen 8 and gen 9.
Well you know if you think you can do better, the editor is out soon for the PC. Go give it a try and build your own American route. Lets see how you do? Hentis
For one, probably that a majority of which was from one EMU (377) not a larger range of different stock.
That's more than a little unfair, Antony. DTG are professional developers. None of us can be expected to " do better ", even with the editor. From the failure to patch Cajon Pass, the saga of failures with BPE to the NYT debacle, and now the omission of a freight loco in AVL( compared to ECML), Americans can be forgiven for thinking that DTG is constantly offering them the short end of the stick.
If a product is sold and has a description of what’s available with in it, the customer is right to expect what’s there to be there and working as intended. If those features can’t be made to work by any creator/developer then they shouldn’t ever advertise or state their presence within the product on sale.
What a ridiculous statement. Statements like these are full of arrogance and completely miss the point. DTG are the ones making and selling the product so a consumer has the right to expect it to be as good as it can be and it's pretty clear that DTG for some reason can't make American content as good as it can be. Or are customers supposed to give blind praise and act like the U.S content is good and not riddled with problems? Did you also forget that most users can't use an editor because it is PC only nor should a customer have to tweak things to improve an experience that DTG can do themselves.
well we’ll see on tuesday what they do with NEC.. most likely we’ll get the full NJT timetable without freight. and an option to have reduced services
I assume if a restaurant messes up your food, you never complain, you go home and make a better dish, yes? And if your car breaks down, you just go into your shed and build a better car from scatch? Great logic, my man.
