Train Sim World 4 - Ecml & Flying Scotsman (september 20th)

They weren't able to get real recordings above a certain speed when they first went to record the scotsman. Adam I think who does the audio was able to travel back and forth and got access to sound recordings at a higher speed. Those will not be implemented in time for release, but will come at a later date.

 

Sounds at launch are based on heritage line running so accurate up to 25mph then extrapolated above that, 3 days ago they recorded on the mainline at speeds up to 60mph so they will be able to add those accurate sounds then only extrapolate above 60mph.

I think I read that the foot crossings on the line have been included but I am interested to hear if Woodcroft LC (the first LC after Posh) is included as it is certainly unique.

 

The sounds for the Scotsman were recorded on a heritage railway meaning they count get high speed sounds, only to about about 30mph. On there latest recording trip which was this weekend gone they recorded sounds between 30 - 60 mph, but they won't be in the release version.

The run sounds are entirely down to AP. How ap got away with electrostar sounds is beyond me

 

AWS warnings that are barely audible which seems to be the standard now. Completely hidden in the mix like DTG are frightened to let you hear them. Strangely though the DVD sound was at a correct level for a cab warning.

 

Well that was absolutely incredible!

DTG have done a fantastic job with the ECML, I think for me while not the best bit of the ECML, I’m glad they’ve done it, it’s something different than Kings Cross - Peterborough and York - Newcastle we’ve had in the past, for me York - Newcastle is much more boring in my opinion!

The Azuma though is the star of the show, what a fantastic showcase the stream was tonight! Roll on tomorrow.

ECML Stream absolutely blew me away. Amazing job! The Scotsman is a BEAST. WOW.

 

I’m watching the stream now… does anyone know if they mentioned the 801 unit numbers? So far in all vids I’ve seen including this stream they are bugged (every 801 is unit 801 234 which doesn’t exist in real life).

 

I asked them on the stream if the Flying Scotsman can do other routes besides the East Coast main line including a cold start guide

Just watching the stream vod. @ 39.49 catenary looks like it has partially disappeared or catenary masts are too far to the left and the model became disconnected or something.

Covid was exceptional and we accepted compromises had to be made.

If it was a one off occurrence or an attempt to recreate some long lost and scrapped train for which there are no references (like the Blue Pullman), I would cut them some slack. But this is now becoming a regular thing and, disregarding your unhelpful suggestion of “do it yourself”, sorry but it is not acceptable for a professional level games developer to keep fudging it or cutting corners in this way. That’s whyI pay DTG to deliver the goods. I genuinely do believe if they can’t get the correct sounds which, as I said, should be one of the top items on the project whiteboard before any money is spent, then they should do something else. We are paying quite a lot of money for this stuff and the sort of fudges we saw in MSTS and Trainz freeware as regards sound aliasing are not acceptable at that level.

Even if they can’t use recordings from the train, at least send the sound engineer out for a couple of trips sat in the front coach to get reference recordings, so he knows what to aim for when mixing the sounds he/she does have. The 801’s do not accelerate quietly from a standstill, there is a very distinct rising pitch of electric traction sound.

Anyhow I guess we won’t know for absolute certain until about 1820 this evening when TSW4 has finished downloading and we can start driving the thing. But I stand fast in my assertion that accurate sounds are an absolute must in commercial software of this nature, particularly when the route and train itself looks lovely. Ships and ha’pen worth of tar come to mind.

 

Are there any layer differences between the series s and full gen 9 consoles as matt mentioned in the stream im a bit confused as he didn’t say what layers we won’t see and what we will see?

 

No but there is nothing stopping you from putting the Scotsman on any route like GWE via Free Roam mode in the GWE Timetable.

One thing I really did appreciate was that the tunnel sounds seem to be back. I really hope they make it to older routes too.

 

Can barely hear the AWS green signal ping in the cab on the Azuma.

 

Realistically speaking, probably not because it's going to require each dlc to receive it manually and with 80+ dlc, it's a lot of work

 

I personally don't understand the poor planning by DTG once again.

TSW4 has presumably been in the works since the TSW3 launch and yet again we have inaccurate sounds for 2/3rds of the new trainsets and also it seems the Flying Scotsman.

Also is it just me or has the sound mixing actually gotten WORSE since TSW3 launch? The AWS ping is really hard for me to hear in the 385 and now it seems the 801.

Not really unexpected but very disappointing.

 

Audio sounds fine to me, and they got the audio they could get. The only negative is the higher speed audio for the Scotsman but that is coming.
The rest of the audio they got what they could get, and no extra time was going to fix them not being allowed to record the audio they wanted by the train companies.

 

Sadly they seem to be constantly dropping the ball on audio, choosing trains they know may have difficulty sourcing correct sounds but still doing them anyway. And even if they can’t get permission to travel on an Azuma to record the traction sounds in the cab or from inside the front coach saloon on an ECS move to get the correct audio the sound engineer should still be having a trip or three on these trains to take reference recordings and commit to his own mind what he needs to do with the sounds that are available to get the best approximation.

Dropping in some hastily remixed Electrostar sounds should at best be a placeholder while better effects are worked on. But I expect as happened with the Class 700 we will be told the sounds are final, aka the discerning customer given the middle finger once again. At this level, “best we can do” is not really acceptable. That is why I have some trepidation over the forthcoming Blackpool route. Eagerly awaited and I know it’s JT not DTG but the thought of a 142 that sounds nothing like the real thing sours the whole deal.

 

Can I just ask about sehs will the updated version be out on the 26th release date like the 700 stop markers and the new pis screens on platform 0 at Rainham when you add it over on release date or do you have to buy the route again

 

I don't think dtg can just enter a train doing an ecs move. It requires permission from the toc and if they don't allow it, dtg can't do it. Then based on your argument, that train should never be made for tsw. Electrostar sounds is actually in the ap soundset. There's even a video by yawwie where he discovered it. Dtg didn't purposely put it on there.

Yes I have already seen that. However DTG must have known what they were buying and where these sounds were sourced from. And that they would be called out on it.

I'm not against aliasing but IMHO they would have been better using the ICE 403 or 406 sounds if they really couldn't source off an 801 (from any operator).

 

A ICE 403 or 406 sounds a lot less like an 801 then the sounds we've actually got.

I was able to open the game at 4pm on xbox. Received a message that the game needed a 5gb update. Has completed but won’t open as the UE4-TS2Prototype has crashed and will close.

No improvement on previous additions then!

 

I've installed everything I ordered on the deluxe edition but when I click play nothing happens I'm on series x

Yeah I really hate people using that argument. I'd rather the train with believable, but not 100% accurate audio, over never getting the train because the TOC won't allow recording. If people don't like the audio, they can just not use the train. But when DTGs hands are tied by the TOCs, there is nothing they can do.

 

Playstation 5 just reinstalling game to see if it fixes it

 

I have tried disabling anti virus and also run as administrator. I had a problem with it installed on my xbox as it kept crashing but now playing however the xbox deluxe version downloaded to my pc still crashes with a message the UE4-TS2Prototype has crashed and will close. No problem with playing TSW3.

As a last resort I will have to uninstall and reinstall it again. I had hoped this new game would be an improvement on TSW3, but seems worse. I just wish they would sort out the bugs before releasing a new version.
