It's seems like that's how HIS routes turn out, a very well made route tainted by old and or terrible stock.....

Even worse this was sold as a Pro Ranged DLC.

I suggest you switch off your computer and do something you like instead.

Fun fact I haven't even touched TSC in weeks, (Note how I haven't been competing in the screenshot contests) So I'm doing fine thank you very much.

Just waiting on Mileposts Tennessee Pass route to come out.

I've already watched SPs video on the route plus the chitchat in the TSC discord have convinced me to wait till it goes on sale.

Now if the route launched at the same price as the B&A route, ($30 plus a new launch discount at $26.99) I would of considered it, but not at $40.

EDIT: On a side note, what ever happened to TBTs NS SD70ACUs and DTMs U25 pack?

At least it will cost as much as I fell like the routes worth imo.

Each to their own. The complexity of how the simulator details reflect real life are not one of my drivers. I enjoy seeing different scenery and experiencing places I have been to in real life and see how they compare. I have nearly completed this pack and have rather enjoyed it. Doesn’t take much to please me apparently

I'm with you. The world would be a much happier place if experiences that we have could take away something that inspires us than that which annoys us.

Then don't look at the TSW side of the forum, cause that's currently more of a dumpster fire than Saluda atm.

yeah, emotions and arguments run high there, in many parallel threads until everybody has had their say and the community will divide itself ...

The announced TSW4 for the player interested in USA has little to offer IMO, another commuter route to make the thumbstick crowd happy with many station stops. Are there even that many, since part of the route is through mountains and it ends way out in the desert?
Plus all TSW3 is officially declared dead, which means you are at the mercy of DTG to provide the still outstanding bug fixing to all of the US content.

We should wonder, and perhaps care about, the decisions DTG's new owners will make regarding this small company running two high maintenance almost similar game franchises side-by-side, with train enthousiasts generally being of the more knowledgeable and demanding kind and those with over 10 years of experience with DTG of the wary kind?

Perhaps TSW will move even more towards the more casual console player, though the promised editor is PC only?

TSC needs a core upgrade, perhaps even a complete overhaul, though it seems DTG and its subcontractors already follow the trend to shorter routes more suitable to the average attention span of the younger generation with Playstations and XBoxes and provide one or two 'expansion packs' until the next route is announced?

The just out Saluda route already has its first expansion pack announced, a nice looking collection of Southern "tuxedo" locomotives. Perhaps a more appropriate collection of "Southern gives a Green Light to Innovations" rolling stock will follow?

I would really have liked to buy the reasonably well done route separate from the only average DTM locomotives, and perhaps would have bought the Southern collection as a separate purchase instead of the NS stock.

There is noting where emotions run so high over so little as in a faculty meeting except perhaps over a computer game.

Likewise. I did wish this was truly deserving of being titled a "Pro Range" addon as the operations conducted on the route fascinate me. I'm not a particularly big fan of the railroads that ran on it but I would've likely picked this route up if the rolling stock included was "Pro Range" worthy.

Just hope some feedback from the locos gets passed on thru HIS and Gary to DTM so improvements to the models and locos are made to both the route as well as the Retro pack....

Erm.. yes it does. Add a <TimelineEntry> in the cab camera blueprint that does exactly that, define another cab position so pressing the Arrow key does just that :).

    I've uploaded my Saluda fixes.

    - You can now power against the brakes properly
    - All freight cars have stronger brakes now - removed, see Smokebox's post below
    - improved cab cameras (moved back to more "natural" position and added gauge view cam)

As the simulation.bins have been modified (which TSC' career mode considers cheating), Career scenarios will show an error on scenario start. No issue, just cancel by pressing F2 then Cancel to play.

Standard and new 3rd camera: (My FOV is 77 (TSC defaults to 65) which equals a 90 degree horizontal FOV on 16:9)

    Enjoy!

Of course HIS is free to include this for an official patch from my side (uploaded content is automatically Intellectual Property of DTG anyway according to the forum T&C) :)

I really like this route, runs at constant (capped) smooth 75 FPS on my PC, all settings maxed.

This is the correct approach for route design imho, a good mix of 3D and 2D vegetation. Look how smooth the vegetation passes you by, as opposed to the crazy LOD and shadow popping on TSW, where every tree changes shape ten times...

And thank you Smokebox for the much improved keyboard input handling of your brake script!

Sorry, but changing the value from 38 to 70 is completely wrong. There's a reason why it's 38. If it's higher (on empty freight cars), the brake force overcomes the rail-wheel friction and causes sliding and spalling, leading to significant damage to rails and wheels. That's why the railroads limit it to 38. If you use the brakes correctly, there is absolutely no need to set the value higher than 38.

Don't say sorry - I'm thankful for that insight. It's just when you see something wrong like the power cutoff when brakes are applied, you lose a bit of trust and start questioning other things.

I anticipated that, that's why I said "you may disagree with the brake specs". Ok, that's checked as confirmed to be correct.

But - the Indy is definitely underpowered - running double light engine a full independent application should bring the locos almost immediately to a stop from 10 mph, please check on that - it takes much too long.

I've removed the modded cars from the archive.

    Thanks!

That point about the power cutoff when brakes are applied was was very helpful. I hadn't noticed it myself! It's corrected in the upcoming Southern Railway Retro Pack.

I'll do some more tests with the independent brakes on the diesels. It might be a carry over from the work done on the engine brakes in my steam locos, where the locomotive brake cylinder pressures are limited to 45 psi to prevent wheel slide (although the valves allow it to go to 53 psi in emergency).

at least Mr Mike Rennie is applying himself, while DTM and HIS under whose name the assets are in your game directory haven't been heard of since release.

On the Steam page, Saluda still only has 10 reviews, many of which ridiculous and completely useless, only there to balance the outcome into the plus
None Workshop scenarios so far, so the route isn't tickling the scenario creators either?

Would like to see some dependable statistics, otherwise it may seem the route has already run its commercial course and will be dumped in the next sale.

It takes a few weeks for routes to be unlocked for workshop scenarios, in case there are major issues reported after release which would require changes to the track network in a post release patch, therefore making already published scenarios incompatible.

I'm sure we'll see a bunch of workshop scenarios for the route which is well done imho (not being a local though).

After DTG''s Quality Assurance there can never be such major issues, can there? ...

Other than that, the route building crew did a reasonable job, the custom assets are nice, the scenery could still use a 'lush southern' remake.
At 50% off I'll definitely pick it up.

It wasn't really sneaked, HIS has been promoting it on thier FB page for awhile alongside the upcoming Southern Retro Pack.

Not to mention Gary hasn't really posting articles on the scenario packs for awhile now.

Well that's the thing, I use Facebook to glean information, it doesn't use me, I occasionally reply to someone's help request and sometimes (even more rarely) post something myself. As for all other socials they can go X themselves.

Just because I love the game and sharing knowledge. And these forums are luckily far away from FB, X, Insta etc. Wouldn't call them social media, been using Bulletin Board Systems in the nineties already. And stuff like comp.sys.amiga :)

But no profile on any of current's social media.

I really don't complain about any games as I have seen a lot of improvement in games since I started playing in 1985. Perhaps some of the moaners should buy a Commodore 64 or something similar if you can get one and see what I mean. Load a game in from a cassette and after 25 minutes you get a game load error and you start again until it loads. I have had TSC and its variations since 2010 and still play it but mind you not as often. I don't really care about physics brakes or acceleration just as long as I can move it and stop it. I did do an engine swap in the Tehachapi Pass route as the original loco whatever it was called the train brake wouldn't release 100% so replaced it with another similar one without the issue.

Does anyone run the Saluda route using RW Enhancer 2 as I get trees in the summertime shadows showing no leaves? Here is a short video showing what I mean look at the tree shadows on the left. I'm not worried about this but more curious. I asked on RWA and one of the developers responded by asking me if I was running any graphics enhancement software. I have uninstalled RWE 2 and the issue still persists. I also removed all the files for it from my AppData folder. (1) Railworks 2023 09 21 13 11 57 02 - YouTube I'm running an Asus RTX 3060 TI 8 GB graphics card with an Intel i5 10600K CPU and all graphics settings and antialiasing etc. on maximum settings getting 60 FPS. No one at RWA has this issue although they are not using any graphic enhancement software.
