I have a question regarding the Austrian route of Tsw 4. I noticed that there are no announcement boards for the speeds on the route. (I don't mean the HUD) So I can't play without it, so I have to guess the next speed limit?

Can someone help me please? Thx.

You have a new UI element now that shows you the next signals and speed limits coming in the next 2Km in the same place where you had the signal and speed limit before.

There should still be signage on the route, though.

Was this route not mentioned as driver knowledge route, you have to learn it not be told it along the way.

Real drivers have a digital timetable (EBuLa) showing all speed limits, on a USB stick they plug in when taking over a service.

Not all speed changes have trackside signs.

Can we have the conversation in English please, per the forum CoC. It will also help non German speaking users of the route understand what is going on, thanks.

Sorry. Just read your first message and you clearly said you were not asking about the HUD. I didn't notice somehow.

    Translation:
Tut mir leid. Ich habe gerade Ihre erste Nachricht gelesen und Sie haben deutlich gesagt, dass Sie nicht nach dem HUD gefragt haben. Irgendwie ist es mir nicht aufgefallen.

I believe it was mentioned on stream that not all speed limit changes had signs in real life. Only major changes. I don't know if this is conveyed anywhere in the documentation.

I believe it’s because the speed post are quite hard to spot as Austria uses a red font on a white background for both speed limit posts and speed warning posts unlike the German ones, where they use black font on white with speed limit posts and yellow background for warning posts.

This is only for speed warning signs, where small decrements in limit don’t have warning speed posts. I don’t think there’s any missing speed post from my initial drive of the route.

    Hey there,

The Austrian railway system uses different speed announcements, both electrical and analogue.
Speed limits are shown by a so called "Geschwindigkeitsanzeiger" as seen here (analogue signals i.e. simple metal signs feature a white border, electrical signals do not):
    upload_2023-9-22_7-26-21.png

Advance warning signals (Geschwindigkeitsvoranzeiger) look like this (analogue signals i.e. simple metal signs are upside down triangles featuring a yellow border):
    upload_2023-9-22_7-27-22.png

These signals show speed limits in tenths, meaning the 9 above would be a speed limit of 90 kmph, a 12 would be 120 kmph

Similarly, the advance warning (Vorsignal) can show different speed limits coming up.
If the "Vorsignal" (which is always set up at break distance to the next main signal) shows 1 yellow light the upcoming speed limit is 60 kmph, if there are 2 yellow lights it means the upcoming speed limit is 40 kmph
    upload_2023-9-22_7-28-27.png

If the "Vorsignal" shows two yellow lights it means the upcoming signal will be a Halt, so use this to slow down.

All Austrian signals can be found in this document here, it's all in German of course, sorry about that.

Austria does not announce speed changes that are only 10 km/h lower than the previous limit, that's why the signs are not there. All other speed reductions should be properly announced.

"Should" So are the major speed changes announced in tsw4 or arent they?

In real they are there definetly, but as said not for a 10kmh change.

I did not notice any unannounced drop for more than that so far. However, I have a feeling that on some places the signs tell 110 and HUD says 120, which is wrong but not problematic. Same with some signalled speed 40 to junctions where the junctions in fact allow 60.
