So whenever I'm in free roam this pops up on my DAS screen... Potentially leaked GWR line/extension????
Glitch most likely, but a route through Swindon would be nice. Best think about living in Swindon is the rail and road links out of the place!
We can only hope... But wouldn't we need the 800/802 modelled? I havent played GWE in a while but it doesn't have electrification far out of Padd does it?
They have already said quite specifically there will be no more work on GWE so I think it is highly unlikely. I think if they revisit the route out of Paddington it will be a completely new route, either current period or a more historic one, either of those it would be nice to see in the future.
Yes true, they have done Peterborough to Doncaster to Reading to Bristol definitely isn't out of the question. At least Bristol is a terminating station unlike Peterborough or Doncaster
An extension just wouldn’t work with the 800. GWE is set before the IET’s even arrived and the route has been completely changed and modernised since then. It would probably require the London to Reading section to be completely rebuilt.
I mean, you can get most of the Scottish destinations on the 385, but that doesn't equate to a Scotrail network Nor does every single destination on the 377/387s? Not sure about anyone else, but the last thing I would want to see is an already existing route come again before some desperate under represented areas of the UK.
I can’t see GWE ever getting extended without being re-done. The PIS destination, definitely not going be a sign of a leak in my opinion. So many off world destinations for all routes (Cambridge on the 700) and so many reasons they could be programmed the way they are (coded database of destinations instead of creating individual ones for each train especially when they use coding Auto instead of manual?). Then theirs the well known issue of PIS doesn’t mostly work in TSW so it’s strange behaviour is quite normal.
GWE is the oldest british route, it's development used obsolete and outdated technices, which would make an extention impossible using the new processes. Basically, it would be quicker to rebuild it as a new route than modify the existing.
Isn't that exactly what dtg do with extensions now? They can't modify old routes so they just have to rebuild it.
I'm not entirely sure. To be honest, Unless they have a pre-baked backup that they can revert to and continue building, they certainly can't edit baked ones. But GWE would be a total rebuild in the new techniques.
*If* anything happens (and I'm highly sceptical) then I expect it would be a new route from the ground up. I think Bristol - Reading would be more likely than Bristol - Paddington. My understanding is that the only reusable parts from the original route would be some of the models - but TSW has moved on so far from GWE now that even those are likely to be low-quality by today's standards. Terrain would presumably be done from scratch using the new LIDAR technique and the entire route would need to be signalled from scratch. Don't get me wrong - I'd be absolutely delighted to see such an ambitious route come to TSW (London - Bristol) but it still feels like it would be biting off more than DTG can chew (with 119 miles of track and 27 stations). Presumably if that was the case then we'd be looking at an 80x, 387, 166 on the GW side, a 345 as the 'new' loco for Lizzie line services as far as Reading and the 66 as usual for freight. Perhaps the HST can layer on around Bristol for Castle-class local services to the south-west. In fact, the only thing which makes me at all suspicious that this could be a forthcoming UK route is that no-one from DTG has denied it yet...
More likely Swindon - Cardiff and/or Bristol if this is a route leak, if it's both then hopefully we'll also get the line between Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway via Filton Abbey Wood for class 166 services between Bristol and Cardiff.
If they ever did revist GWE it would likely be to do the Elizabeth Line so still wouldn't make it as far as Swindon.
