Hopefully, however I'd prefer we just got it when it's ready!

The Class 142 will be a fully featured TSW model, it is the one that came to TSC a couple of years ago from DTG with the work required to get it into TSW shape where required. Currently the soundsets are in progress.

That's reassuring (I think!), Mark. Was rather disappointed the sound was so flat on the TSC version, at full throttle these things had a distinctive fairly high pitched roar.

The sounds are a different set to those on TSC so hopefully you'll be pleased with them.

As it's our first project on TSW, and we have a small team of 5 developers (at present) it's a case of doing what we know we can get the most out of, then move forward from here, whilst maintaining the high standards we set for ourselves. We didn't want to come and try to "reinvent" the wheel so to speak, a case of walking before we can run instead of running and falling over, and thus making idiots of ourselves.

Again appreciate the response Mark. Just there has been a bit of disappointment over sounds of late, starting with the Rivet 150, moving through the Class 700 and now even the new stuff we are getting in TSW4. For many of us, particularly where older traction is concerned, decent sound replication is as, if not more, important than the appearance (with reasonable physics a close second). The sim is a chance to relive history or even experience trains that no longer run in the real world and while we can’t recreate the diesel aroma from our PC or console chairs (yet) an accurate sound field goes a long way to putting us there.

Yes they certainly are doing a great job.

One question, did class 20's ever operate in top and tail mode like that?

I guess to see whether the screens can show something other than 'on time' we will have to wait for Matt to do a live stream.

Its a railtour, I'm guess if it didn't, it's been done for ease of use over accuracy if its's heading to places likes Ormskirk or BP south where running around isn't possible?

In terms of bonnet first we're going to be flipping those round so they are cab leading. We've used the 20s to give them a place to run, as they are under utilised.

The tour visits literally every corner of the route, including the North Union siding at Preston, behind the mail building.

Great stuff Mark. The 20's have indeed been terribly under used since their release onto TVL.

I have to say this route is fast becoming my reason to get TSW4. Its a historic route and seems like its had proper time, care and attention put into it. It makes use of the dlc and layers we have in game in a better way than any route we've seen so far IMO. The timetable seems very well done from the timelapse of Preston. The scenery looks great, I can't wait to see the signal box interiors and sit watching trains pass.

I really hope the hype and work is followed up well with a good release. :) Because it could blow everything else out of the water :)

It's good to see a route using the power of TSW and the under used BR era locos and stock which got relegated to unrealistic railtour mode only on routes populated by EMUs with one handle. Let's hope the BR doesn't sell line doesn't get trotted out again.....

After the latest batch of incredible screenshots, I have to say that my fingers are itching to get this route. I only wish that DTG themselves had utilised the older stock much more. This era was the perfect call by JT and they have really done it justice considering that it is their first project. I feel like a boy again seeing these iconic types as well as little touches like the yellow BR transits. Hats off to all at JT.

With every development update, the route looks better and better. I would envisage an October release. 10th or 17th?

Yes they are not going to want to go too soon after TSW4 comes out but equally better to release before the big December Steam Sale and people are shopping for bargains over full price items. Personally I would hope late October, though reading between the lines of what's being posted I get the impression there's still a fair amount of work to do yet.

Definitely prefer a “when it’s ready” release given the experiences we’ve had with previous buggy TSW releases. JT seem like they care a lot about the route and will want to make sure it’s safe for public consumption first.

I dunno- it might be helpful if they borrowed the USDA classification system, "Prime," "Choice", "Good" and "Dog's Dinner."

Can you compare building on UE for TSW to route and train building in TSC? I've often heard the UE Editor is an extremely powerful tool. Can you elaborate on this? :)

    Afternoon all,

Something that we have been wanting to update was the Pylons across the route. We noticed also there was some feedback on these that the general feeling was they needed to be revisited. So here we have the new and improved model which replaces the old DTG ones!
These work in the same way as to how the Overhead Wiring is placed where we link each cable up to each other one by one, allowing correct curving when they change direction rather than seeing the wire bend mid way!

    Thanks, Thomas

Yes, on DMU substitutions around Derby in about 1990 - and probably on other occasions too

Thank you so much for this. I was one of the people raising this issue and had done on a few other topics to no avail.

This model looks so much better than the original pylon model and, I hope, can be the new standard moving forward.
Thanks for taking the time to act on the feedback.
Shows your attention to detail and can’t wait to get this route.

On the subject of pylons. I know it’s only around the Preston area but if it’s not too late, please don’t go with the new TSW4 OHLE system. It looks clunky and overscale like something from the 1960’s Hornby Dublo era, not tight at all.

This is already in place, its the new OHLE shader that comes with TSW4. The aim of it is to make it so the OHLE wire does not disappear so soon. I do hear you however and i do agree its probably not the greatest. But sadly we are where we are on that one.

    Regards, Tom

Over to DTG on that one then Tom. Already some concerns being voiced in the various TSW feedback sections particularly on the ECML. It's not a showstopper just pug ugly as hell. Let's hope DTG are listening and don't brush this particular complaint aside.

Will there be any sound improvements/fixes to the Intercity coaches? Currently on PS5 the ones that come with NTP have since TSW2 made this really annoying squeaking sound, which can be heard from the cab.

There won't be any sound improvements to the rolling stock. We do not have the capacity to add extra work to our already stretched load.
All focus has been put onto the Pacer on this pack. I believe there may well be some texture matching improvements however between the mk1s / mk2s and the 47 for more consistency. We will have more on that however down the line :)

    Cheers, Thomas

The only way of getting the OHLE to not disappear is to cheat and have it taper in thickness towards the screen/camera. But given there are multiple mobile cameras this is virtually impossible, so to make it visible further away it has just been made thicker all the way around...would be better to admit defeat and say well its smaller than 1 pixel so you have to imagine it. :D
