Us Trains Livery Randomization/unloading Cars Bug Solution

Hey DTG JD, dtg jan when can we expect "car unloading/livery randomization" bug in the US freight trains to be fixed? I hope this summer time will bring this flaw to end. There are tons of great liveries in CC and they are meaningless "blood into sand" due to this issue.

 

Hey Jan, the issue is well known, Matt is well aware of it and spoke many times of it on the forum, it is common issue for all platforms and all US freight routes (almost) that makes cars with random livery act as unloaded, so practically any random CC liveries are blocked for using with cars for now (to allow them being loaded), This issue makes US routes looking very boring and unrealistic, i.e. 100 BNSF clean and shiny identical hoppers is just a wet dream of BNSF logistics

 

To be clear, there are actually two separate issues here:

1) Freight wagons from one DLC, say the covered hoppers in Sand Patch for instance, don't show up as alternate liveries when the same wagons are also present in another DLC, say the covered hoppers in Cajon Pass. It would be nice if they were interchangeable, because then you could see more varied liveries (if you owned both DLCs). The reason this can't happen is because the weight of the wagon is question goes to zero, when it is not being used in its home DLC. Of note, wagons from other DLCs can and do show up in the Oakville DLC, because it is short and flat and so the weight of the cars is not considered to be that much of a concern.

2) Then there are Creators Club liveries, for instance, if you create your own livery, or if you download someone else's created livery. In theory this livery should then show up in timetable mode on the wagon (or loco) and DLC it was created for. So, you would see the livery randomly on passing trains, within your own train, etc. In practice, the implementation is uneven. One example is again Sand Patch, where all the Creators Club liveries show up reliably on all the different locos and wagons. That's great! On the other hand, if we look at Cajon Pass, none of the Creators Club liveries appear, ever, expect for the ES44C4 and SD70ACe, which itself is new since the latter was released; before that, the ES44 didn't work either. Apparently there is just one box that needs to be checked to enable this functionality. Why this has not been done for more of the stock in the game, has never been explained.

These are both well-known and longstanding issues. I do not think they are platform-specific. My ticket concerning issue #2 was ticket #50310 submitted 16/11/22 (and closed 18/11/22).

I think they've just about given up on US Freight at this point. There haven't been any improvements to the gameplay in a looong time and even seemingly simple things like this livery issue are obviously the lowest priority for DTG.

It's a shame. If Run8 ever updated to a non-ancient engine, i could just ignore US Freight on TSW entirely.

 

Yeah, and if Searchlight Simulations nails their route and content on SimRail, then DTG might as well just stop developing US freight for TSW, or at least not put much effort in, as most PC players will probably abandon it for other sims.

 

Oh i hadn't heard about a Searchlight route for SimRail- will definitely keep an eye out for more info

 

There was a post on the simrail instagram page of a us freight loco model with searchlight simulations on it.

It is frustrating that every time someone posts an attaboy for DTG in here, reps are right there saying thank you; but when long, longstanding issues like this are raised, it's as lonely as a Maytag repair shop

I would not expect this to be fixed. It's a long standing issue, they always say "it's just a matter of ticking a checkbox", yet they never tick that goddamn checkbox.

It's not even an US only problem, as most german and english rolling stock will not spawn in custom liveries either.

 

It's more than a checkbox. The fundamental problem is that substitution causes the car to register as "empty."

 

Nope. Livery substitution does not cause that. This empty load thing you talking about is only an issue when a freight car substitudes from route A to route B, like the mixed freight manifests on Oakville Subdivision. With simple custom liveries this is not an issue - see Sand Patch Grade, where custom liveries spawn without any issues.

I put this zero/random/livery/freight/cars technical support ticket, if you Guys think it is important broken gameplay part - put your tickets too, lets make it loud&clear issue.

 

Last time I checked in TSW3 custom liveries still spawned on SPG. The only exception was the 3-bay hopper that comes with the CSX C40-8W.

Already did long time ago, but we all know how much do support ticket matter to them... This issue has been brought up many times, even Matt has acknowledged it in several occasions, but never is anything done about it.

 

Agreed on both points. I was on SPG within the last week and all custom liveries appeared as expected. This on XSS running TSW3. I also have a ticket for this issue from November of last year. It will be interesting to see what the status of custom liveries is on TSW4; I will try to observe next week what TSW4 players are saying about this issue. Although, as has been stated there is no particular reason to think that TSW4 has somehow resolved this issue.

 

TSW4 is just old dog with few new tricks, Im pessimistic about that too.

 

Well, good new is AVL's freight services seem to support Livery designer, the bad news?

Older liveries seem broken.....
