The value of all the DLC available for TSW4. And yet it seems existing customers must re-download everything, delete everything prior (unless you have huge storage), transfer it all over, get all the entitlements sorted with Sony/Microsoft/Steam/Epic. Every single time, every single year? It is completely unsustainable, nearly 100 DLCs, 100s of GBs by now, each account.

What a colossal waste of time, energy and effort. As if you couldn't just put out an annual route bundle for £40 and a mega patch for existing content with a core update.

TSW please, not TSW [version number] just TSW, like TSC.

    Is this not enough?

I think TSC is north of $10k :D
But really this isn't the type of game where you buy all (apart from some rare whales).

Tsw would cause more confusion. Players would think it's the very first title since 2, 3 and now 4 exists

The switch to TSW2 was more-or-less justified because of an Unreal Engine upgrade, TSW3 and TSW4 feel like they are more for marketing. Selling the game fresh likely gets more attention from potential customers than rebranding an existing game. I'm on the fence, yes it's good for expanding the TSW franchise and attracting new players, but it's going to become an absolute faff long term if there will be dozens of iterations of what is essentially the same game, especially with the DLC structure we have.

    I think that's a rather generous interpretation...

I agree. Now the downloads have finally triggered I have 164Gb of data to download. First of all they have got to structure this better next time when our acquired routes will bring that to over 200Gb. Why not arrange to copy the pak files from the TSW3 install and have the installer simply update the parts that need changing to make compatible, unpack and repack?

And if it is still necessary to redownload then arrange some sort of preload facility so the files can be gathered during the early access or pre order period but locked from use before the go live date.

Just a good job I'm on unlimited Broadband, feel sorry for those who aren't. And if I want to build routes have to go through the same rigmarole with the laptop.

You can't just let people just copy pak files over if you're pretending to put out a new game ;)

I doubt people want to have patches for GB sized PAK files. It would take much longer to patch/crc check all files then to download new files.

And that is the quintessential problem. By putting it out as a entirely "new" game, leaving the financial side and morals of that in the "Enough Is Enough" thread, they are causing the situation. When TSC gets its annual big update you're not forced to download all your content again.

So there is the solution, next year or two years time no TSW5. Keep or change the name to Train Sim World and make the core changes free, funded by the DLC pack. There is no need to completely put it out as a new game. And yes I have done a 180 on my previous stance and not ashamed to admit it. Situation is a joke - this download is probably bigger than installing MSFS.

And while they're at it, maybe come up with a means to condense the bloated route files, central content library for common items that sort of thing. Anyhow 21Gb down, 143Gb to go...

I would love it if DTG split all the DLCs between their routes and their locos, as things stand we have to install every route to get all the layers to work when in reality all we need is the locos from those routes.

Such a deep engrossing game. Hard one to set aside once you get started on different tasks.

I really need to grab the Season 3 Pass, waiting to see if it gets a discount in the next Steam sale.

But even when TSW4 finishes its marathon download, might be hard to go straight back!

Crossing my fingers that all your TSW content gets downloaded in TSW4 before TSW5 gets announced :D
