This is the master feedback thread for the Photo Mode in Train Sim World 4. Please Include: Issue Summary: Platform: Route Name: Loco Name: Step-by-Step Instructions: (+Bonus) Screenshots (+Bonus) Video Links Thank you!
I have found after an adjusting the depth of field and focal point a few times, it stops working - only a small area blurs. After this issue and retuning to gameplay, I could no longer use right stick and D-pad to change views. It just kept opening the doors.
Is it possible to have arrows added to the UI so we can fine tune the settings? I'm finding it a bit finicky to control even with the mouse.
I just lost one of my favourite... no, TWO (because I retried deleting a specific shot) when trying to delete a specific shot (did I say that twice? yeah I guess I did ), what the hell??
Agreed, you first have to click the slider you need, then try to click again to grab it - it's very fiddly to hit the click spot and drag it
Photo mode needs a better handling of getting the right things in focus. Can't keep one train out of focus and another in focus. Don't have any button to focus. It could use more filters, sepia, grain, letterbox etc but it's early days. The ability to use logos and images unlocked in mastery/livery designer as stickers could find further use here. Most issues I have are with the saved photos.... Page 2 onwards shows location tag from other photos. Incorrect times too (not system time or time in route). It doesn't display the share button from this page, you can also share again a photo already uploaded. I've taken a number of photos but it also mixes in photos of another user on the same console. Users without an account can still use photo mode but the photos don't save on the user cloud save. There should be so many photos you can have on your user save like some other games. Also it was said your railfan shots from previous games would show up there. I have some in TSW2 and can only see them on the web. I never took any in TSW3. All from the Xbox versions. Platform: Xbox consoles
BOD on the Playstation 4 Pro. London Commuter. Taking pic just passing the curve leading down toward Clapham Junction. Engaged photo mode and within 2 seconds Blue Screen Of Death on the PS4 Pro. This is the 2nd time its happened, it also happened on the LNER route yesterday.
To add a bit more info to what I think is happening if it is helpful. It appears that the focal point slider starts off working and then at some point switches to autofocus and thus renders the focal point setting inoperable. I seem to remember in a live stream that it was said that autofocus had been added last minute, but it has no toggle option and is happening automatically. It appears to happen if you go to the second ‘page’ of settings where you adjust the exposure and saturation etc. and then switch back to the first page where the depth of field and focal point settings are but that could just be a coincidence. It sometimes starts working again after some time. Hope this helps. I’m on PS5.
On PC, when using Shift + Space to enter Photo Mode, it works normally. However, when exiting the Space bar seems to be being held down. This means the horn is constantly sounding until I press Space to cancel. Anyone else experiencing this? I've filed a bug report as I think it's definitely not intended.
I had this on PS5 when entering Photo Mode by pressing the two joysticks on the controller together, one of which is normally the horn and when exiting Photo Mode the horn was sounding continuously on the train I was driving. Well, it was the whistle because I was driving the Flying Scotsman but it’s the same bug!
Can you add motion blur and film grain to photo mode plz DTG…..and a nice array of filters too. Thank you….chop chop
No, it does not toggle automatically. We made it so that you need to press T to toggle the auto-focus. There is no indication if its on or not. Was just too late to add any UI stuff for it. But you can easily test if its on or not on a planar surface. Look at something far away (with the exact center of the screen), after a few seconds the focus should have snapped to that target. Then look at something near by and the focus should change with a linear interpolated move. Use long lens settings for that (makes it easier).
It does turn on by itself without any input on PS5, hence these reports. As I said I think it happens when you go to the second page and then back to the first. Good to know there is a keyboard toggle but it really shouldn’t be there unless there is the proper implementation of it that includes UI and proper console functionality.
Agreed. If there's absolutely no indication that it's on or off and no indication on how to turn it on or off, it shouldn't be in the game.
I've noticed that if you zoom in too far with the field of view (below 40) effects like rain disappear, is it just me or is that a bug?
Depth of field and focal point sliders are not intuitive usable. They appear to do nothing at first glance. Got it working .. but Jesus... unless you put the FOV slider almost full to the left, it won't change anything. XBox Series X
I have noticed that the DOF and focal point sliders stop working after awhile. Really frustrating, I can't seem to figure out why it's happening. I feel like if I use photomode a few times on the same route it just stops working. Would also echo sliders are not intuitive at all. Focal point being percentage doesn't make any sense. It should be distance from camera. That way it's far easier to pick what the user wants to be in focus. DOF is also very confusing. I thought it was DOF strength at first but it's clearly not. One slider missing is camera speed or something to add motion blur to trains in motion. It's a good start on photomode but it can be so much better.
Not really a bug, as a suggestion. On Xbox, the Left Trigger raises the camera and the right trigger lowers the camera. Maybe this is just me being weird, but it feels reversed. I would generally expect Left - Lower, Right - Raise
Is it possible to add a small description of what each slider does? I frequently find myself messing with the depth of field and focal point sliders trying to find of which slider affects what, it usually works out in the end but it’s frustrating when both slider seem to do the opposite of each other. By that I mean I end up putting the DOF slider to 0 and raising the FP up high.
Autofocus seems to be on by default on PS5. That’s definitely a great choice, but sometimes it can mess with your manual focus when moving around the camera, so I hope a toggle gets added. Seems to be present on PC (T key), but not on console?
I found out today that on the PC version if you highlight the slider box for each of the settings you can use the arrow keys on your keyboard to fine tune them. Really helpful, I don't know if that has always been there or it was added after today's update.
I have a question, I just asked in the charity stream for a zoom option, as Matt said "their is a FOV slider" which is true, but it does nothing for me. So I just tried again and it is indeed not working (at least for me). Screen resolution is 3440x1440. Here are two screenshots: So no difference between FOV 100 and FOV 0, any ideas?
Hmm weird, it's working for me but my resolution is 1920x1080. Have you tried dropping the resolution down to that to see if it works? If it doesn't might be best to put a support ticket in.
Indeed it is the other way round in the normal camera behaviour already in game, so we have confusion built in for those who already use that in normal gameplay (via the camera shift on controllers). It should at the very least be consistent throughout the game, which it currently isn’t. A big issue I have found is that going into photo mode very often spawns the camera underground and it can be a right pain trying to escape through to above ground to get my shot.
Really enjoying it so far and I am improving with it! Trying to Improve. Going past Bathley Lane Towards Peterborough! 4L55 Service From Doncaster Down Decoy to Renwick Road. Opinions? Is their a reason why the driver is sometimes missing from the cab and sometimes not in photo-mode? Known or confirmed bug? Can be also seen in the photo-mode thread perfectly.
Yesterday evening I've driven a service with the 110 on Linke Rheinstrecke. Shortly before the last stop I got a red signal issue. Long story short, a BR628 in the section in front of me had just passed a signal which went red when he passed it (only about a third of the front car passed it). However the train stopped then and didn't move anymore so I had to get rid of it manually so that I could finish my service. However, the question is, (as I was shortly before in Photomode) if this happened BECAUSE of Photomode? Did the 628 just pass the red signal the moment I switched to Photomode and it got stuck then because the signal was red when he had only passed with his cab or is this another general problem with TSW4 getting stuck like on BRO until the recent update? Will Marshall marking you here as you seem to be the Expert. I never ever had this issue on Linke Rheinstrecke in TSW3. So question is as said, bug from Photomode or bug in timetable?
I have had this in game about 10 times now when I am actually going from the cab, to photo mode. PS4 Pro
I've found a bit of a weird but fun (and very specific) bug to do with the Laaers A Wagons from RDA that lets you fall though the floor and beneath of the world. Platform: PC and PS5 (but probably all platforms) Route Name: All Loco Name: Anything with a Laaers Wagon (either loaded or unloaded) Steps to reproduce: Load onto any route in Free Roam or Timetable Spawn in a Laaers A Wagon Climb up its ladder to get to the top deck Enter Photo Mode Move the camera far enough away from the Wagon so the camera is no longer above it Exit Photo Mode Fall! Don't ask me how I found this, I was just very bored! Not really a priority for a fix but you might want to take look as it kicks you out player boundaries.
Photo Mode has crashed my game twice today (losing all service progress - both cases at the penultimate stop, oddly) Platform: Xbox Series X Route 1: Edinburgh - Glasgow Service: 06:42 - 2N44 Alloa - Glasgow Queen St (Class 385/1) Route 2: Boston Sprinter Service: 21:23 - Northeast Regional #94 (ACS-64) Action: Attempted to open Photo Mode by pressing down both Joysticks - randomly crashes, (opens the vast majority of the time) - It seems to only happen after a failed attempt at opening photo mode (either the game not registering it or me mistiming one of the presses), but that could be by chance.
You can crash at almost any time, and it doesn't matter what loco you're driving. If you're careful you can avoid it I think: 1 It's only the L+R thumbstick key combination that crashes the game. Using a keyboard with Shift+Space or accessing it from the pause menu do not seem to crash the game. 2. It has a way better chance of crashing if you are in an external camera, but perhaps not every external camera. Haven't been able to crash it in Bakerloo tunnels where you only have access to the head out camera. Using that photo mode shortcut on the "3" camera definitely causes crashes quite commonly. This same problem occurs on PS5 (and probably other consoles) and is likely related to why other controls related to the thumbsticks are failing. DTG need to address these crashes and broken controls ASAP.
The first crash occured from the cab, and the second occured from the Free Camera (which I believe would be the "3" camera)
How is an optional feature immersion breaking? I actually like Photo Mode, it allows for nice pictures.
PS5 user here. I tried photo mode last night whilst doing a timetable with Class 47 on Blackpool route. The driver disappeared in from picture.
This happens across the board (afaik), and isn't route specific. My only theory is that TSW is actually a tale of Dracula's journey as a Train Driver, attempting to blend into the real world.
I find it quite the opposite, I find I can take photos in a more realistic sense with the increased options.
DTG Alex DTG Matt please can we have the photo mode camera reverted back to how it was before the winter update? The boundaries now make it feel far too restrictive when taking photos as you can't get certain shots or angles because you get blocked. Personally the boundaries kinda ruin photo mode and make me want to take less with it now. Another example which I reported to Alex was you can no longer have the camera inside the cab to take photos as the boundaries automatically kick the camera to the outside.
