I'm pretty enthusiastic now and just want to share my joy of having finally made a breakthrough after messing with paks and files and editors and versions the whole day now and typing messages while waiting for files to unpack... Thanks to the help of londonmidland and JetWash I was finally able to make my first TSW mod - starting out with the same thing that got me started on TSC modding - the cab cameras. Always being unhappy with some of the presets, I was especially uncomfortable with the view in the wonderful BRO DB BR 110, having a really bad view on the track and in rain the offset to the wiper field was too big, so here's the result. It's currently only working on TSW3 until the TSW4 mod issues are solved. Default NEW - I think this comes much closer to the actual engineer's view (usually you'll have the LZB distance bar in the centre) Again thanks to my two supporters. Expect more to come in the future Next up: SKW ICE1 Cheers, community!!!
maaan this is nice but I also want to know how to make mods, but I might still be very far away from that... cheers, looks good!
I see you've moved the camera slightly to the left, won't this make the camera slightly off centre when you look down at the seat?
No it wont, because most likely just the horizontal axis value has been changed which wont affect any other vertical camera movement etc.
I moved the camera 8 cm to the right and 10 cms up - it was definitely way too low, felt like a little kid You're right about the seat, if you look down you're a bit off centered - but I'm not looking down when driving, so there's a priority to decide on. Actually I think the seat is not modelled / positioned correctly in the model itself, it looks like you'd almost have no space to put your legs under the desk. I am referring to 1. My own impression - and it should be naturally to be looking through the wiper field 2. Other simulations (TSC, virtualRailroads (Maik Goltz) E10) 3. Real life pictures and videos, on some you can see the driver is pretty much exactly sitting above the right rail, which is at 1435 mm / 2 = 717.5 mm from the centre, I adjusted it be 650 mm from the centre. (Initially 570mm) - I even think I'll move it a bit more to right now to 67 cm. I think you can judge by this image where the driver is seated - centered onto the MFA display. Seat in TSW - I wouldn't judge my position by the seats in TSW alone Of course the rest is personal preference, some like to drive laid back, some leant forward - that's why I would like to see a little menu in TSW where you can adjust your view to your own needs, a mandatory thing in a sim. (ETS2 anyone? Saving positions, angles and zoom factor for each truck individually ) In TSC it's easy to define as much camera positions as you like, offering multiple perspectives you can choose via the arrow keys. Currently, I find modding existing TSW blueprints easy, but enhancing them or extending them is a whole different story if you do not have access to the raw uncooked blueprints. not true Now being happy with the new view, will apply the fix to the cab #2, check for clipping errors, and upload to trainsimcommunity.
Looking forward to these! Is the DB BR 187 on your list by any chance? The TSW3 mini EP stopped working a while ago (when Skyhook made the sounds even worse a few months ago).
I completely understand. I only bought it on sale for TSW3 when the sound EP came out, but even for £4.99, I'm not sure if it was a good deal. On the other hand, there are loads of cabs with weird seat positions, and some of them are just shocking. It makes one wonder how they can't get this right...
Next one, LFR BR 103 (and including the 110 camera mod). Slightly moved the position upward for optimal visibility. 8cm raised seems enough to have the overall best view and to be able to see ground signals in bad weather conditions too. No need to move further to the right here, this position is realistic. For every driver, it was an honour to be dispatched for 103 services, driving the world's most powerful electric locomotive. Though the cab was not loved, being very tight, crammed and sweaty hot in summer. DEFAULT NEW UPDATE v1.1 IS AVAILABLE, minor bug fixed that could cause missing services (Delete the LFR 110+103 v1.0 pak from your TSW folder in case you've already installed it.)
Antelope Valley Metrolink Rotem Cab Car fixed (using experimental AssetRegistry.bin workaround for TSW4) Default camera is too high. DEFAULT NEW (Initally I wanted to move 5 cm lower but then the digital speedo is covered by the brake, so a compromise here. You can use the sun visor now.)
Thanks, will upload my 200+ TSC mods sometime too. (Coupler fixes, cleaner windows - especially DTM's, cameras, ICE/APT tilting and texture fixes, controls sensitivity, Dash 9 notch fixes - some of them have 9 power notches QA??? - etc.) They're all spread over many threads here, and I need time to sort that and document them and finally upload them to trainsimcommunity. Things get lost in here quickly.
About those cabview mods, DTG maintains no standards as to 'adjustable seats' in modern cabs? Leaves this kind of details to the developer in charge? As they do not maintain standards in cab sway either, some routes/trains have it, some don't Flying Scotsman is a very bouncy locomotive in any YT video from the cab, but in TSW it rides like it's glued to the rails. Hacking into .pak files is difficult? Getting grips on some TSC, where with some effort, almost everything is 'hackable'
Having studied a lot of blueprints now, there is very little standards. Almost everything is left to the developer - which is powerful, but very hard to fix once something goes wrong, and you have not documented your work well. Some routes like Oakville or Penninsula Corridor have a nasty bloom effect coded into the route, instead of using a global user controlled setting. >r.BloomQuality 0 fixes this (ugly sun is the drawback) - but console players are left with the stuff DTG give them as is. Personally I can't see a reason for buying a console nowadays - it's a completely enclosed system with fixed hardware. I need to access my game files - especially when it comes to simulators which offer a universe of great mods. What would X-Plane be without the incredibly detailed and customizable free Zibo 737 mod, almost every subsystem is simulated accurately. And driving a loco with a controller is nothing for me. Consoles were fun when they were stronger than PCs, in the nineties. Played the NHL series on the Sega MegaDrive(Genesis), that was a brilliant game, especially NHL'94. When EA was good... (they made DeluxePaint for the Amiga, a milestone in bitmap paint programs.) https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-94-enduring-popularity-25-years-later-301326816 DTG introduced seat adjustments for the Class 31, 37, 40 and 45, even adding secondary viewpoints. That was nice, but - there is no standards. Feature dropped. "Hacking" took me many approaches, giving up, weeks later trying again, trying different tools, frustrating error messages, editing the wrong values, watching Youtube tutorials. It's more complex than TSC where each blueprint is an easily accessible xml file - TSC is purely xml and Lua. For most fixes a text editor is all you need, like in MSTS days. Once you understand the TSW structure and set up a good working environment, it becomes easier. Cabfixes take me a few minutes to do now - and making these can be considered modding for beginners. Always start from the bottom up. I got into ETS2 modding five days after purchasing the game - one of the easiest games to mod, you do not even necessarily need to pack your modded files there (same in TSC) and your mod folder is separate from the game files (TSC's biggest drawback - Steam verification - but of course there's always a workaround ).
Made slight improvements to the SPG GP38-2. In TSW2020, camera was too low, from TSW2 on it was too high. Also moved a bit to the right to have a better view on the track and move the vanishing point more to the window centre, position was too far left to have a good view through the driver window. Also moved a tad forward to improve track visibility. Now it's pretty much consistent with the SD40-2. (Will also look into improving the overbright gauge lights.) DEFAULT NEW Including gaugelights fix courtesy of JetWash - thank you! Will upload as soon as TSW4 allows DLC mods again.
Nice to see your mods, looks much better! But this should have been a default feature in TSW, to set and save your position.
But it's not, so I'm bending the game to my needs. I've contacted foobian to ask if he can put an InteractionEnvironmentCameraComponent adjustment menu into God Mode, saving the individual presets into .ini files per RailVehicle. He hasn't ruled that out, which is good news. That guy is very skilled.
Which is only a good thing. Hopefully more TSW4 mods from you soon.... There is some weird problem on what files can be packed, some trigger a core update or will not get a hash assigned and/or are just ignored. Anyway, have fun!
can we have one for the class 801 that gives us more view inside the cab i dont like god mode it looks like your using VR when on that so yeah if it can be done that be great to see
Hey aussiedon, you mean moving the camera a little backward to see all controls without using "fish eye" FOV? This won't fit my line of "Realistic Driver's View" imho, but, having a bit of time at the moment, I'll do it as a "Requested" mod for you. Something like this? Note that in this position the camera already clips through the seat when turning your head. Further back (will have the headrest disappear from the seat completely when turning though)
TSW1 - 4 In the DB BR 155 you could still adjust the height of the seat, which I think is very good. And in the DB BR 204 from Rivet Games you could not only move it up and down, also back and forth, which I think is very good (Best Loc DLC). I always ask myself why this function wasn't used and not for later vehicles made standers? This progressive way of thinking from Rivet Games should perhaps be reconsidered. Everyone likes to sit differently in the loc. I'm one of those people who like to sit close to the driver's table and I like to sit very high because I also want to see what's going on in front of my loc.
Great ! Just what I looked for !! Unfortunately I have to wait until it is available for TS4... (just where is that emoji for patience ?...)
As I couldn't find the patience emoji , I decided to give it a try with TSW4. And it worked !!! Thanks, you're my hero! Finally I can see the track in a snowstorm:
Great stuff, good to see some are having success getting mods to work now. The cabs mods i miss the most from TSW3 are the 465 and the reworked head-out views of the steam loco's!
I'll upload a pack later this day, that contains all my cabmods in a single, easy to maintain mod for TSW4. So far, there's no issues with using the TSW4 compatibility workaround (Asset Registry reset) reported and I haven't found any myself yet. This pack will be updated when further locos are added or if a TSW4 update should break the mods. At this moment I'm checking for compatibility of the old mods after yesterday's update. EDIT: Nothing's changed. Still no native mod support in TSW4. Some do work, some others clear the timetable.
I ran into it not working the first time I tried it this morning, re-doing my dimmer Class 385 screens. Converting the old mod crashed the game, completely redoing it using the exact same changes to the exact same parameters had completely different results and blanked half the instruments. I think you’ve been very lucky, keep riding the wave!
Always hope for the best and expect the worst. Might cause trouble if you have two TSW4 mods installed that modify the same file/DLC using the AR reset. I don't. If you do, changing the paks first letter to change load order could help. Got all routes except original IoW, MML, Peak, Glossop and SoS. Not watched it yet, but was anything mentioned in the Roadmap stream concerning mods? Or just next releases promo?
Have you used the old TSW3/TSW2 paks? Try to extract the original files from TSW4 again and mod these. You never know they might've changed something or added something to the blueprints. (Easy to spot, the .uasset files are different in size then.) I'm using a simple CRC-32 check. (built into 7zip File Manager). I've got enough space on my 4TB HDD to extract the full game.
Glad it worked - and a bit puzzled to be honest. Note I've uploaded a single TSW4-only pack including all camera mods. (Shouldn't matter if you don't own all routes) I may add I find the wipers ingame to be too small anyway (though the 110 has gone through countless revisions and almost every loco produced is unique in some way). This website is a good source of information if you're interested: https://www.bundesbahnzeit.de/seite.php?id=605 See this shot, larger wipers, covering 67% of the window vertically. (TSW only 60%)
Yeah, that’s what I did. Completely different results after editing the exact same parameters to the same numbers. I’m just going to sack it off until DTG come up with a solution.
Trying the all in one cab view mod, much better than the vanilla views thanks! I removed Jetwash's dial mod which was funny enough still working for TSW4. Do you plan to do other cabs?
Some old mods still work but it just cannot be predicted if they will... Yes if I find them to trigger my OCD I'll add more fixes. I also did slight adjustments to the 801 (a bit lower), SD70ACe (a bit forward) so I am making minor changes atm. The ones I've released so far were the biggest buggers for me. Will also check the ACS-64, I think you're sitting a bit too low in there. Some X axis adjustments (left right) also pending on german locos.
Oooh yes one for the 801 please, always having to adjust the camera to see the speedo. Look forward to the update then!
Next update will include adjustments for: - HSC NS GP38-2 - TOR CN GP38-2 (making all geeps consistent ) - CJP SD70ACe - PBD Class 801 Still fiddling around with the nuclear cablight on Skyhook's HSC GP38-2... (which has some more issues, if you do not switch the MU-2A valve between Lead and Trail position on each loco before you start you'll get constant brake hissing.....) Also thinking about releasing my mod which fixes all the Bloom issues with older routes. The default map bloom was set to 2.34 on most old routes, newer routes and reworked SPG are set to 1. Playing HSC, Oakville or ECW I always think I need to clean my spectacles
HSC GP38-2 nuclear cablight is fixed. Also fixed the missing illumination of the right cablight cover.
I'm far too late to the party here but why does that loco have a steering wheel Do you turn it when there's a curve in the rail to make sure the wheels follow it
No, it's the throttle. It just like 30 notches around it, and you turn the wheel to select the throttle notch you want.
Small info on what will be in the next update, tried to upload but trainsimcommunity is offline at the moment, no ping response. RSN BR 363 better visibility (before/after) PBD Class 801 (lowered viewpoint) HCS + TOR (Oakville) GP38-2s using same viewpoint as my CSX GP38-2, plus HSC cablight fix (see above post) In addition, I will upload a mod that removes the 234% Bloom boost on the East Costway, Horseshoe Curve, Oakville Sub and Peninsula Corridor routes. Resetted to 100%.
Almost forgot this - the New Journeys CSX SD40. default/new I've just uploaded the update, should be available in a few hours.
Was this mod update posted? As I downloaded the latest version v1.01 but the view in the 801 is still the same as it is unmodded
Nope, your head is lower than in vanilla. Wiper is a good orientation to see where the horizon is. This is now a perfect and real driver's view imho. (Unless you're six foot tall ) I think what you want to see is the view pitched down at an angle (I'm only modding translation, not rotation vectors which do not exist for the driver cam) of 20 degrees. This would require a change in the blueprint structure and I'm not messing with that right now (I did on TSC, where every camera had translation and rotation properties by default.) Use your mouse By default in TSW, the driver camera has zero rotation, you'll always have it centered on the horizon. Vanilla/Modded
Ah I see what you mean, yeah I was going off the images you posted in the above post thinking that was how the 801 cab view was going to look like. It does look better now the horizon is better aligned! Yeah no don't worry about messing around with blueprints at least not until modding is more stable in TSW4. Oh yeah that was I was doing anyways, just confusion on my part that's all! Thanks for clarifying the change.
