It's a beautiful clear Spring morning in New York as Long Island Rail Road M7s '7017', '7231', '7180', '7081', '7676', '7359', '7584' and '7029' form 8 coach long Train 717 beginning at Hempstead on the Hempstead Branch. The train stops at every station from there until Bellerose after joining the Long Island Rail Road Main Line, where it then runs non-stop to New York Penn covering a distance of 23 miles. Loco: M7 Route: Long Island Rail Road: New York - Hicksville
DB Class 146 '146 012-1' leads a 5 coach long passenger train operating a morning service from Riesa to Dresden covering a distance of around 53 kilometres during the Spring of 2017. Locos: Bombardier Double-deck Coach, DB Class 146 Route: Bahnstrecke Riesa - Dresden
Final installment in a six-part chronological depiction of a recent early daylight Stopping Service QD, from Bournemouth Central to Swanage, on GAD's Dorset Coast route. Our train is headed by LSWR T3 No.563, newly available as an update to Caledonia Works LSWR T3 Pack, in honor of the real-life T3 No.563's first overhaul to working condition in 75 years. It pulls four AP MK1 coaches. Pulling out of Corfe Castle, its ruins visible at distance: A standard Caledonia Works cab-camera position. I don't use it all that often, but it can produce dramatic effects, as here: Pulling in to Swanage station: End of the line, Swanage station wall-clock almost perfectly framed within the loco's most visible cab window: RW Ehanhancer 2, AP S&W 2 + Cloud Pack
Those 50 years are probably the sum of all the delays thanks to dispatching On my end, nothing fancy, just a good evening pic.
It's a beautiful day on the Island of Sodor where Skarloey Railway BB Class 'Rheneas' departs from the slate depot in the mountains of the island with wagons full of slate headed for the base of the hills at Crovans Gate. Loco: Fletcher, Jennings & Co. BB Class Route: Island of Sodor
I recently bought SPRailway's Talyllyn Adventure Route so I immediately put the locos from the DLC to work in some scenes I created in the route builder on the Skarloey Railway section of GlennockCreation's Island of Sodor route. Screenshot 1: Skarloey Railway Class Bb 'Rheneas' crosses the Skarloey Viaduct with empty slate wagons headed for the slate quarry. Screenshot 2: Skarloey Railway Class C 'Skarloey' prepares to depart from Glennock with a southbound passenger train to Crovans Gate. Screenshot 3: Skarloey Railway 0-4-2T 'Ivo Hugh' stopped at the Picnic Halt with one of the first southbound trains of the day as a morning fog sets over the railway. Screenshot 4: Skarloey Railway Tattoo Class 'Peter Sam' prepares to leave Crovans Gate with one of the last northbound passenger trains of the day. Screenshot 5: A heavy downfall of rain hits the slate quarry while Skarloey Railway E Class 'Duncan' and Skarloey Railway 0-4-2ST 'Sir Handel' double head a long train of loaded slate out of the quarry with Skarloey Railway 4wDH 'Rusty' shunting empty slate wagons into the quarry for loading Locos: Andrew Barclay Sons & Co 0-4-2T, Andrew Barclay Sons & Co E Class, Fletcher Jennings & Co Class Bb, Fletcher Jennings & Co Class C, Hughes's Locomotive & Tramway Engine Works 0-4-2ST, Kerr Stuart & Co Tattoo Class, Ruston & Hornsby 4wDH Route: Island of Sodor
Royal Scot Locomotive & General Trust Peppercorn Class A2 '60532' 'Blue Peter' operates a 9 coach long rail tour with West Coast Railways '47 030' on the rear from Bournemouth to Southampton Central to service a football match taking place around the area. The train was hired by the owner of one of the football clubs as they were a huge train enthusiast and used the steam service to get fans to the stadium. The train departed from Bournemouth around 10:30am and travelled a distance of around 28 miles to Southampton Central during a clear Autumns day of 2015. Locos: British Rail Class 47, LNER Peppercorn Class A2 Route: South Western Main Line: Southampton - Bournemouth
A singleton set of images, again on GAD's Dorset Coast route. The train is no longer fronted by an LSWR T3 but instead another recent Caledonia Works purchase, the LSWR M7, seen in latter-day BR livery. The sole purpose of this brief run between Swanage and Corfe Castle was to practice using CW's implementation of the M7's "steam reverser", which operates differently from what I'm used to. The concept itself is simple and rather nifty. However, it does not supply feedback to the F4 HUD. I'm an F4 driver, and will likely remain so for some time to come, thanks to a combination of 24" 1080P monitor, preferred view distance and tired old eyes that make the F5 HUD hard to read. I had not intended to take screen captures, to better focus on the reverser. But AP's Cloud Pack gave me such nice skies I simply couldn't resist. Corfe Castle: I own the old DT M7 Pack and will continue to use it, partly thanks to a GAD Enhancement Pack that renders some of its liveries quite visually appealing. Still, this new CW offering is easily its superior, as it ought to be, considering its age and drastically higher price. (As of this posting, DT's M7 can be had for a song as part of a close-out sale.) RW Enhancer 2, AP S&W 2 + Cloud Pack
An EMD SD70M-2 duo leads some covered hoppers over Sherman. I didn't run quick drives here since forever, and the AI was a pleasant surprise. ICE 1 arrives at Augsburg. Southern Pacific Bloody Noses pull a mixed train up grade on a wet day. An Alco RS-11 works the Altoona yard. NJ Transit GP40 at... well, depends on mental flexibility. Crossing a curved bridge over a highway, entering a small town or village, it might as well be New Jersey. (It is Donner Pass, between Roseville and Colfax.)
First installment in a multi-set chronological depiction of another recent Stopping Passenger Service QD on GAD's Dorset Coast route. Our train is once again headed by Caledonia Works LSWR T3 No.563, newly available as an update to Caledonia Works LSWR T3 Pack. As before, it pulls four AP MK1 coaches. Differences are: 1) Rather than an early daylight run, we begin at 1600 on a cloudy Autumn afternoon. 2) The run begins at Swanage, rather than ends there. 3) This being conceived as a return to point-of-origin (Bournemouth Central) for the run featured in my prior LSWR T3 No.563 image sets, the loco now travels tender-first. The combo of time of year, time of day, locomotive, GAD's photogenic route, and clouds provided by AP S&W2+CloudPack made this run a natural for screenshots. These captures find the train at or near Swanage Station: Pulling out of Swanage Station. I added this image to my WindowsDesktopBackground folder: Camera positioning is identical to the above, but swiveled to capture the train, cylinder cocks still engaged, as it exits the station: A more rural view, still within Swanage-proper: RW Enhancer 2, AP S&W 2 + Cloud Pack TO BE CONTINUED . . .
Second installment in a multi-set chronological depiction of a recent Autumn late afternoon / early evening Stopping Passenger Service QD on GAD's Dorset Coast route. Our train is again headed by LSWR T3 No.563, newly available as an update to Caledonia Works LSWR T3 Pack. As before, it pulls four AP MK1 coaches. This being envisioned as the return trip of my prior LSWR T3 No.536 / Dorset Coast sets, the loco is now configured tender first: Our train, at last (barely) beyond Swanage outskirts: En route to Corfe Castle. This image was added to my WindowsDesktopBackground folder: Entering Corfe Castle Station: Departing Corfe Castle Station, cylinder cocks engaged: A tiny remnant of the Castle is seen peeking above the roadway overbridge: This too, despite its similarity to image two, was added to my WindowsDesktopBackground folder: RW Enhancer 2, AP S&W 2 + Cloud Pack TO BE CONTINUED . . .

Third installment in a multi-set chronological depiction of a recent Autumn late afternoon / early evening Stopping Passenger Service QD on GAD's Dorset Coast route. Our train is again headed by LSWR T3 No.563, newly available as an update to Caledonia Works LSWR T3 Pack. As before, it pulls four AP MK1 coaches. This being envisioned as the return trip of my prior LSWR T3 No.536 / Dorset Coast sets, the loco is now positioned tender first: Traversing a brief length of 10mph track at Worcrest Junction: Entering Wareham Station: Stopped at Wareham: Departing Wareham, cylinder cocks engaged: RW Enhancer 2, AP S&W 2 + Cloud Pack TO BE CONTINUED . . .
Many great submissions this week as usual. Happy to see this thread going ICE 1 arrives at Hagen. Tried this angle to capture the surrounding buildings. Running this scenario in September was perfect, with the foliage being just a little dry, works well as early autumn mood. Rio Grande scene in Provo with a GP9 delivering a few cars to local customers, with clouds covering the nearby mountains. Fluff. In my dice function I defined 75 days waiting time. Upon rolling, this was 75 days and 2 hours old. Class 158 in Central Trains livery at Havant. Its colors work well with the sandy autumn palette and blue skies of the PDL. I guess this is slightly inappropriate, not really being a central territory. On to the older shots. Amtrak AEM-7 with Amfleets (both Phase 5) approaches the low level station at Philadelphia. I somewhat dislike the grey-all-around concrete design of this old route, however it sometimes conveys great moods while also leaving room for subtle colors. You're not seeing double, these are twins IC 6105 & 6105, pulling coal in a mixed set of cars at the peak near Monument on Castle Rock. Although these trees have low details, I absolutely love their actual forest mood compared to the park-pretty-perfect newer ones. I've recently started delving into the details of hoppers, gondolas and silos. Interesting. In any event, this train is rather impractical - the hoppers are emptied by opening the bottom, while the rotary gondolas are turned around upside down. I also like the slightly aged color of these old SD40-2 models in this scene.
Pennsylvania Railroad Baldwin DR-12-8-1500/2 '5828' embarks into the Laurel Highlands on a dark, wet and miserable Autumn night of 1948 with a 3 coach passenger train beginning at Johnstown and headed for Gallitzin where the train will terminate an hour away from midnight with the train battling signal failures along the way due to the weather. Afterwards, the train will travel light engine to the sidings at Cresson to stay overnight. Locos: Baldwin DR-12-8-1500/2 Route: Horseshoe Curve
A bonus story I would like to share about the scenario I just drove on Horseshoe Curve; I was about 10 minutes early to Gallitzin so I decided to go into the passenger view and ended up in the dining coach that came with the route, in this scenario it was on the rear of the train. For a 2012 model, the interior looked amazing and it was quite peaceful and nice just sitting in the beautiful coach an hour away from midnight with rain drops all over the windows and even some classic 1900s music was playing in the coach too which I didn't expect! But then I got a rather large fright as to my surprise, a waiter popped out of the end of the coach and walked down the carriage! This is honestly just a gimmick and it may not be that cool to some, but I found this incredible. Not often do Train Simulator Classic developers go the extra mile to include things like this; and this was a DLC from 2012! I honestly just thought this was really cool. I went into the free camera mode afterwards to have a look around and stumbled upon the compartment he comes from. He appears to be an animation that plays in the coach every now and then, even when the player is positioned on an outside camera and not in passenger view. He just patiently waits in there until the door pops open and he takes a walk down the coach! Until he then just vanishes as he passes the player in the coach of course. I am really impressed to see level of detail like this on a coach from a DLC based around a locomotive and as I mentioned, especially because it was made almost over 10 years ago now in 2012!
Fourth installment in a multi-set chronological depiction of a recent Autumn late afternoon / early evening Stopping Passenger Service QD on GAD's Dorset Coast route. Our train is again headed by LSWR T3 No.563, newly available as an update to Caledonia Works LSWR T3 Pack. As before, it pulls four AP MK1 coaches. Being envisioned as the return trip of my prior LSWR T3 No.536 / Dorset Coast sets, the loco is now positioned tender first: We benefit from some impressively dramatic late-afternoon skies in this set: Holton Heath: Departing Holton Heath: This was added to my WindowsDesktopBackground folder: RW Enhancer 2, AP S&W 2 + Cloud Pack TO BE CONTINUED . . .
Here is the post I promised to cscarpenter About trackside scenes on the Fort Kent to Eagle Lake route. I didn't play it for a while now, although plan to use these a bit when I get to play the switcher packs. Something I like about this one specifically is the area around Eagle Lake - somehow reminds me of traveling to Lake Balaton many years ago. Lush trees, weekend houses, lake views.
Having a slow time on the forums. This is where having a backlog helps. Even if I didn't play for a while, I could still engage and spend a few minutes reminiscing. In fact, between my new busy job and hopefully starting home renovation, for some time I expect to only play over the weekend. Thank you cscarpenter for the inspiration. Reminded me that there are many aspects to enjoy in this game. There is another person around here with the same idea. On to the pictures! I really wanted to share this pic from playing the SD45 recently. Climbing in autumn from Roseville to Colfax, pullling a string of AZ 2-80 airslide hoppers. It's interesting how in the last few decades silo cars shifted to designs with a flat side, while older ones pretty much universally have bands - all the while capacity also increased. (There might be bands inside. Certainly easier to wash!) View of a Field to Lake Louise intermodal. These brands are still funny in a good way. SD40-2s leading on Sherman. I'm sure you know the location from the track distance! Some time into this pack I noticed that AI trains used EMD models exclusively. Little marketing things. Shot from the scenario everybody knows too well. I gradually keep submerging into the specifics of equipment. During the SD45 pack I also checked cabooses to refine my rather generic "SP Caboose" tag, only to learn that this, the CE-8 is actually a Santa Fe caboose. (The SD45 comes with the C-40-3, same as the Cab Forward, just different paints, change around the 1950s. The manual claims it's a different, UP class.) Case in point, it's interesting how we have Cajon Pass, a BNSF route, with BNSF coal gondolas, Santa Fe F7s, somewhat debranded (the sunshine gloss on the CP gondolas brings out BNSF, too), apparently licensing boss wasn't easy during the early times either. Breaking the "NA post" vibes is this autumnal shot of a series 101 with a string of Bimz coaches (B is second class). Having shot Soldier Summit recently I notice now that this shot still has the first, light version of 3D clouds. Could be interesting to see how it looks like now. (Ore Train to Ehrang, Part 1)
With the worry of starting yet another pro vs neg AP war, I personally have found their products a game changer for me. How can you not love this amazing Class 37 set against the beautiful weather / cloud / signal background? To me it is as genuine photo realistic as you can get, given what is currently available in game. Compare.com LOL
EWS 66178 takes charge of the afternoon Hunterston to Cockenzie PS MGR freight, which had just joined the ECML at Monktonhall Jcn in 2001:
tried to recreate this old photo of princess bridge station in melbourne.... close enough asset for flinders street.
I've done a few Aussie screenshots a few times on the Tumulla Banks route using my NSW reskins, and also on the fictional Moreton Country Line route a few times. Aussie trains for Train Sim Classic is very rare, and I don't live in Australia by the way!
ScotRail 320307 & 320420 calls at Coatbridge Sunnyside on 11th October 2023 as the train works the 16:08 Balloch to Airdrie:
We do need some australian routes, Ive tried my hand a few times only to get annoyed at how hard it is to build a real route with not many similar assets. Having said that trying to start with a modern flinders street was a mistake when i hadn't done any rout building before
If I was to stretch outside my diorama boundaries, id probably start with a small branch/heritage line so in that way i can use the google maps overlay to as accurately as possible depict the route in its past and present form. trying not to get too off topic either, but Matt Peddelsden has recently said that they'd do an aussie route if licensing wasnt such a hassle. there is definitely a hope for us lol
I’ll take anything I can get!!!!! The day an Australian route comes, I’ll be buying. It BETTER be good quality or I’ll be upset. I really want some good Queensland routes.
