PC (mod) Improved Cabviews

In fact I set the initial head tilting value in my TSC cabs, so I have my favourite view by default.

I'll only change where you are, not where you head is turned to in TWS4. But as I always like to expand my knowledge, I'll see if the game accepts a different blueprint with your view tilted. (Don't know if that would affect TrackIR users, but - trial and error :) )

Got it working. Can actually extend blueprints like I want to... just created a new Rotator StructProperty for that cam and it works.:)

You'll be looking down by 12 degrees by default for perfect oversight without using the mouse, and whenever you change back to that cam.

Just add the attached pak (it won't conflict with the other mod. The exclamation mark makes sure it gets loaded on top of my other mod. (Unzip first)

I'll only post it here, some players might feel annoyed not having a horizon centered view.

    Are we happy?

Just working on fixing the illuminated cab nose on HSC's NS ES44AC. Changed the outer light cone radius from 60 to 30 degrees.

HSC NS ES44AC lights fixed, and you'll now see the track ahead illuminated instead of the cab nose :)

The headlight will appear very bright in daytime though - but that's due to the old ToD3 system the loco is designed for. I think good night lighting is the thing that matters.

Is there anyway you can make the mods individual files per train? Think that would be quite useful, just upload all of them on the same train sim community page, like a master page of all your different tweak mods.
Would be great for picking and choosing.

  10. Spikee1975

There is, but until the TSW4 modding issues are persisting, it's easier for me to maintain one file instead of updating dozens.

If you want to play a loco that is affected by my mod but you prefer the default version, just rename my file to .bak or .inactive before starting. (or use a mod manager)

As these mods will then be TSW3 and TSW4 compatible, I'll upload each single mod for everyone to choose.

The Bakerloo Line 1938 Stock desperately needs fixing in this mod, the default camera view is so low it's impossible to see the speedometer without having to essentially look at the ceiling of the cab and it seems as if the camera is positioned where the drivers legs would be in reality. Would be very much appreciated if this was fixed!

I'll take care of it. :) You're right, I'll move the view up and a bit to the left.

That's the best I could come up with without moving your head to a very unrealistic position.

Due to the tight spaced cab, moving the viewpoint backward is not an option. If you want to see all instruments, you'll have to increase the default FOV of 90 degrees using GodMode, but changing the FOV will affect your perception of speed.

I might move up 5 cm more (check the driver model's position in outside cam :) )

    38-new.png 38-new2.png

    I'll stick with this position.

That's not bad tbh the perfect balance is being able to see both the controls and the speedometer, but I still feel like the view is higher from personal experience. Also will this be available for TSW3?

  15. Spikee1975

    Spikee1975 Guest

Then I'll move it further up. Like I said, this cab is tight and to see everything at the same time you'd need to zoom out to a higher FOV which will lead to distortion.

But, I could sacrifice a secondary camera (like the light switches cam, not necessary imho) and turn it into a high-fov-full-cabview as an alternative cam to select.

I'll upload it as TSW3 compatible (should work on TSW2 too, but I don't have that installed anymore.)

I've transformed the Auxiliary Panel camera into a wide FOV cabview, accessible via the arrow keys, using a FOV of 100. (Be aware as soon as you move the mousewheel, the game will reset the FOV to 90, as seen in most BR Diesels using 95 degrees FOV.)

    Added view:

I think the fundamental problem here is that of course in real life, you are capable of not only moving your head (which is effectively the camera in game), you also move your eyeballs, and you also have peripheral vision which can't really be simulated. I've never been in a train cab, but for the 38 stock my asumption would be that because the cab is so small, if you were to sit in that tiny chair and looked straight ahead, the window would be the thing in your primary FOV with the controls in or very close to your vertical peripheral vision, so while visible you wouldn't be focusing on them. Not a criticism of any work done here, its just a natural limitation of any first person game no matter its genre using a flat display. The only real way to simulate it would be using VR that also had built in eye tracking I think

Indeed, that's why I made the wide fov view a secondary view. Your eyes have roughly 200 degrees horizontal FOV, but on a flat screen that looks ridiculous, because our retina is spherical, and the view gets projected onto a flat plane, much like the distortion of the Mercator map projection where Greenland appears as big as Africa you'll have these distortions at the edges when going over a FOV of 90.

The purpose of my mod is to put the eyes where they'd be in real life, and this is no problem.

Yeah you've done a pretty good job at getting the angle right, makes me wonder why Rivet positioned the camera so low in the first place.

Ah, I've only noticed on the 1938 Stock as that's a train that I've actually been in the cab of, other trains that I've cabbed like the 1972 Stock and Class 377 have been a pretty good representation. I've also just remembered that the head-out position on the 1938 Stock in game is really low meaning its hard to actually see anything at some stations because the view is blocked by the platform barriers.

I'll raise the headout position as well, you're right there.

I'll upload a separate TSW3 pack and an updated TSW4 all-in-one version. (The TSW3 pack should later be automatically compatible with TSW4 when DTG update the core.)

I have to go a bit lower with the driver's camera... due to the wiper angle. The secondary camera will stay as it is.
As an orientation, I'll take this picture.

Problem: Wiper animation stops too early for a higher seat position

Ah that's interesting I never considered the wipers hindering visibility as I spend most of the time with it in the tunnels hahaha

  28. Spikee1975

    Spikee1975 Guest

And you can't play this route in rain anyway, as it's raining inside the tunnels... oh my.... Dovetail... somebody filed a support ticket I hope?

I'll stick with this view and the secondary wideFOV posted above.
    2023-10-07 19_13_19-Train Sim World 4®.png

And I'm considering turning the perma cablight off that illuminates the driver's side without there being an actual lightsource. Or maybe dim it down? What do you think?

Oh dear, even more reason for me to stick with TSW3. I didn't mind the permalight as it prevented the cab from being unrealistically pitch black in the tunnels (in reality it's dark but still bright enough for you to be able to make out the features of your hands or somebody sitting next to you due to the various pieces of equipment emitting light), though I agree it should've been dimmer.

Agreed, I'll just dim it then. But by default it has the same intensity as the real cablight, that's over the top.
I also found that the windshield hardly accumulates any raindrops, even in a rain storm...

Dimmed permalight. I think I'm happy now. Adjusted main cam, added second wide view, fixed headout cams and dimmed the permalight. Uploading.

Haha yes that's a classic Rivet games bug, the Isle of Wight 1938 Stock suffers from the same problem and I think the Class 484 did at release, not sure if it's been fixed now.

Just had a run with it, the camera views are excellent and much better than the default positions, only thing I noticed was that the permalight didn't seem to be dimmed and was still quite bright, apart from that it was a very enjoyable drive :)

But it should be dimmed... I'm sure I didn't upload the wrong file :)... but I only tested in TSW4.

I'll look into that - the mod is based on the TSW4 DLC, I'm just installing it on TSW3 and get back to you.

Could be a change in the blueprint, I'll redo the changes based on the TSW3 paks (how I wish they'd finally stick to ONE TSW...)

No, I had two working versions and uploaded the wrong TSW3 file :(

    Fix is available now :)

Glad it's fixed now, just tried it out and wow! It's amazing how much of an impact good lighting can have on the gaming experience, it feels much more immersive now. And about having one TSW well lets hope DTG come to their senses eventually because one would think that's the obvious marketing choice (looking at TSC), and these new title releases almost every year now don't seem to make the game any more stable.

    Glad you like it :D

The new game releases are pure marketing, create chaos on release, and oppose ex-CEO Paul Jackson's original business strategy for DTG, which still applies to TSC thankfully. Updates apply to the same game and don't require a rebuy and DLC transfer. Drop the numbers, DTG. Just call it TSW.

Currently I'm working on adjusting the position on all TRAXX cabs (185/146) which are not centered correctly and are just a bit too up close to the window imho. Also adjusting all DBpbzfa cabs (moving camera down and a bit forward there)

So, a big update. First, Bescot's MML HST cabview is included.

I think I got all TRAXX cabs now, and the Dosto cabs. Also 363's are fixed.

Added NewJourneys' ICE1 which was missing and the SEH Class 465 (based on Bescot's mod, slightly tweaked and also secondman's camera raised).

I've also added the Boston Sprinter CTC3 cabcar. Modified default position and added a secondary camera view which has you set back a little and raised the view even more so you have the Signalling Display in sight. (This replaces the fuse box cam, get out of your seat to go there :) )

Also slight adjustments to the Vectron (moved back a little) and the Taurus (DB BR 182).

    SEH Class 465
