1. Adding a layer automatically shoots it to the bottom automatically making it over lap everything else when you don't want it too. 2. Adding 3 "options" was a bad idea. All that did was add an extra step for no reason. Option 1 and 3 should be combined. Should be put back to the exact way it was. 3. You can barely see the color of each layer (blends with background) 4. When a layer is selected you can't see it at all, turns the whole thing solid white. 5. The individual font letter set up is a disaster. Having all 6 types of letter grouped together instead of having each font style grouped in separate categories. Here's my advice. Keep undo and re do options and custom text, and put every other thing back to the way it was. I gave you guys great advice when you asked creators what we would like to see added, but sadly you didn't listen. I will give a couple suggestions again. Make it so when you make a group of layers, you can paint the whole group the same color, instead of going 1 by 1. Also make it so when you open the layers and you're at layer 1, if you go up it will shoot you to the last layer, this way you don't have to spend 5 minutes scrolling to get to layer 500 for example. Lastly, I am not an amateur, I've spent 100s of hours making liveries. I currently have 225 on the club, all highly detailed. My tag is D 3 A M A N S or GuilfordFan#8437. I recommend you check me out so you can see I'm quite serious about making liveries. I know this may sound arrogant, but I'm honestly trying to help make this better. I would love to help in anyway possible.
I agree GiulfordFan. big fan of your work by the way. I'm the OldsRocket on TSW, or Trashed Trains on instagram... I make a lot of the graffiti weathered North American Liveries. I agree, the User interface is a complete disaster, and I am also livid that none of my previous work from TSW 2 And 3 seems to be compatable with livery editor 2.0 at the moment. But needless to say, I guess i'm not too chapped since it's layout is a mess anyway. As someone who was also fond of the overall interface of the previous livery editor, Please make it like the old one, but with the addition of 1000 layers, undo button, and custom text options. thats all that should have been changed. Can you guys please listen to what some of your biggest community content creators are saying?
Hi evolution33192, I want to firstly say thank you for sharing all the feedback, and reassure you that claiming to have created plenty of liveries certainly isn't arrogance, but realistically shows high levels of familiarity and experience with the tool that adds to the feedback you've provided I will pass this on to the teams, we're working hard to deliver frequent patches and Livery Designer is certainly an area we're looking at for improvements and fixes soon. Thank you.
DSadly the freight car liveries which are some best of the best are USELESS because DTG is unable or DONT WANT TO tick some boxes... DTG Alex great people are creating great liveries which DTG is locking and denying for use, how long? Why? (freight cars liveries)
That's great to hear, thanks for listening. I will say the text implementation is fantastic. Being able to have the whole word/s count as a single layer is a major improvement. I do have a suggestion for it though, it would be nice if we could group individual custom text together. So if you want make a larger space between words or put a word below another word, this way you could group them and change their font size together. I hope that makes sense. Another thing I've seen others say, and I agree, is the slider bar for projections is not as fine to adjust as it was before, however they had it before was perfect. One last kind of off topic suggestion for livery designer 2.0 in the future, custom and working light number boards for US locos. I think that would be a highly enjoyed feature if possible.
That's awesome to hear. I know exactly who you are. I'm also a fan of your stuff, in fact you're the only person I have any other liveries from. Your graffiti and weathering is un matched!
Any updates on this livery editor fix? It's been months, and I'm a little less than pleased that a lot of my previous liveries don't work in tsw 4
Its great for you big livery guys to be speaking up on this. I use most of your liveries and Oldsrockets. You guys constantly blow me away with the detail and it continues to be even better over time.
Im a novice in livery designer and i dont even use it in tsw 4 its too complex and some of the issues listed in this thread do make it fustrating ..i find tsw 3 livery desiner better for me use was able to do better on that and this is coming from a beginer novice ..I also have a lot of your liveries from creators club some dont show up to play i dont even download anyones cars cause cant use any of them ..i tried recently to down load some very well done Conrail bathtub coal gons to use with some well done conrail scheme engines in free roam i could use the engines but not the cars so i deleted the cars off creators club to make room for stuff that does work..also i cant get a few liveries ive created to even post on creators club to share with others
I really appreciate the feedback. I honestly love making them, and they are a huge outlet for me, especially during the winter months. Which is why it's even more disappointing that the issue hasn't been addressed for tsw4 yet.
s Sometimes i just like to search creators club to view all great liveries that people create real or fantasy schemes it amazing to see what people create ..i wish there was lots more space to download them somtime s its hard to decide ones do get or if i have to unsubscribe to some to make room
I much preferred the TSW3 livery designer kinda setup/control scheme they way overly complicated the TSW4 one for what appears to be no reasoning, definitely the number 1 change I am not a fan of compared to TSW3/2. I like the 1000 layers per carriage that is great now but the overall change was very bad. I haven’t used it as much since as it’s just too fiddly, before it was easier to do something and now it’s more buttons to do the same simple thing what can easily accidentally do something along the way.
I can’t remember how many times I “harassed” DTG by asking them when are they gonna fix the livery editor, as we can’t use every liveries made on previous iterations. Always the same answer “we’re looking into it” but TSW5 is on its way and I doubt they’ll do anything about it, I just gave up on using the livery editor, there’s no point on spending hours doing liveries just for a year, what a shame when you did around 150…
I agree with the first two posters (speaking as a semi-prolific livery artist myself). The new UI is a horrible step backwards. Although frankly I've hardly messed with LD in TSW4 because, with substitution non-functional, there doesn't seem to be any point to it.
Cam you guys at the very least acknowledge what we're saying about this issue, and be forward and honest with us in regards to the progress of your solution? Putting your blinders on and alienating all the less than happy content creators in your game is not a way to win over long term customers.
Hello, I appreciate everyone has been patient with more changes coming to the Livery Editor UI flow and usability since we released TSW4, especially on consoles, and I want to say that I'm still keeping it one of the focuses for our teams to look at improving so that players can jump in more easily to design custom creations. Addressing outstanding bugs that come up in the Livery Editor will likely take more priority than reverting or implementing any new suggestions, but I'll take everything into account for our development teams. Your feedback is vital to us to help make this a better tool for everyone, as an update for when you can expect any changes, our teams still have to scope in when they can look into improvements, so I'll keep you updated on any more news in our Announcements section. Thank you
Isn't that just an alternative way of saying it's been added to a very long list of things to be looked at as and when? Just like the equally as priority (and yet to be resolved) broken achievements. Just like the equally as priority (and yet to be resolved) XBox audio issues. Both of which we've been excessively "patient" with.....to the point where it wouldn't be unfair to say that "enough really is enough"... It's almost like that, due to the extra work involved, you can't be bothered with the XBox any more.
Im genuinely curious on what their priority list consists of. They never tell us anything and fix things every so often for us. Either DTG simply doesnt have enough employees to handle their games or Livery designer is going to be completely redsigned for next iteration of the game. So simply work with what you got until we sell you the next version of the editor.
Well, Matt quite categorically stated in a stream that XBox achievements were supposed to be a priority fix because they physically prevented you from completing an ingame task and were therefore classed as "game-breaking", so being as how this is a never going to go away issue one can only assume it's the simple stuff (typos, misplaced items etc etc) that gets prioritised. Sadly, the only thing that DTG seem to care about when it comes to the XBox is the next price-tagged item on the production line...
Meanwhile, this "update" did not include most of the meaningful improvements we have been asking for, aside from text functionality and layer increase (although 1000 still isn't enough). Numerical input, rather than trying to move things pixel by pixel with a mouse, or, worse, a joystick User-made layer groups/decals Radial gradients
I've gotten pretty creative at making the 300 layers work. It's all about maximizing the layer depth on all the symmetrical stuff to free up redundant layer clutter. And if you're like me, you cover all the nitty gritty railcar payload information with graffiti anyway. It's a creative method of corner cutting
Or, (on PC), you can use the nifty "unlimited" layers mod (actually, it's limited, but 36,000 is plenty.....). Personally, I like doing all the little nitty-gritty markings.
Now that I think more perhaps the issue I have was they focused on a PC control scheme for the console
