What are the weirdest trains?

 

Stourbridge Shuttle Class 139 is pretty weird.

 

Weird, pointless and ugly.

 

Actually it’s a brilliant idea. It’s so ugly it does make you want to walk instead and at the same time, you’ll do some exercise. Very clever.

I think I am on the complete wrong track here but I have come across many individual trains/locos with weird quirks and tendencies, is that what Saxon means, perhaps?

 

Ugly is what feels unpleasant to look at...
Weird is anything that seems unexpected or 'not the usual'

 

I'd say probably in between.

There are some weird trains that are ugly and vice versa.

 

Does a Mercedes Unimog hauling nine loaded timber wagons at a paper mill in Wales count as weird?

Not common yeah, I mostly see a Unimog hauling a tramway or as a firetruck running on train tracks

 

Union Pacific's Coal Turbine, despite them already having the other ones from ALCO/GE, they decided to test this thing by rebuilding an ALCO PA, a GN W-1 Electric loco, and a Challenger Tender.

It was built in 1962 and retired in 1968 with less than 10,000 miles ran.

Thankfully they were prototypes. They look ugly.
