Can anyone explain please? Why does a bin need solar panels? Do these exist on the Antelope Valley in real life?
I have no idea about Antelope Valley but I guess if they put this exact same model then… it’s there in real life. In the city next to mine, there’s some “smart solar bin” installed mostly on touristic and huge pedestrian zones. Solar panels are just used so the bin can work as it’s compacting trash until it’s full, then it’s sending a message to be emptied. That’s the reason why it uses solar panels, it’s not connected with electric wires like traffic lights are.
Ohhh! I didn't know the bins also compacted the rubbish and then sent a signal to be emptied! That's quite clever, but is it more eco-friendly than having a person empty it on a regular basis? Would the infrastructure needed to transmit the signal not offset the savings made by the bin? Laughed at that one! Nice!
They are solar panels and as I said above, they do exist in real life. The screenshot appears to be from Santa Clarita station. Not sure what exactly they do though. I've never been at one of the intermediate stops long enough to pay much attention to them.
Kind of unrelated, But does anyone know a route in TSW with standalone solar panels as assets? I'm planning a route with a solar park along the tracks.
In case anyone really wants to know why these solar panels are there: the trash will be compressed to have a more efficient use. On this website (https://www.mr-fill.com/de/produkten/selbstverpressender-solar-abfallbehaelter/) you have a 3D animation on the top of the pages which basically shows what these trash bins actually do. And imo, that's a nice piece of engineering
They use to say stuff like "Very nice, I'm so proud of you", "Aaahhh, it was amazing!" etc after throwing trash in them
That's scary! I am scared to think what we'll have next. Technology and a.i. might be going to far at this point. : (
