Going fast in the 101 is really an art, I always fumble the gear shifts that cause me time lol. The mouse dragging is really sensitive on the gear selector.

There's screenshots and more info on the actual website but yes. They've added clutter throughout the route

Might be a stupid question but surely if you have just key’d on, the AWS should give a clear Bell after you’ve acknowledged it unless the pacers differ from all trains I’ve worked on.

That was added when TPWS was added, this video of a 455 at 21:50 shows the same as what we've got implemented.

This seems great ! Really nice to be able to drive different versions of the Pacer with different engine and gearboxes.

This DLC really is a must have !

A friend has queried the seat moquette. GM ones had brown and the rest the blue themed seats. The pics appear to show the moquette the other way round. GM with blue and Blue with GM?

Ok, I do think that the 142 shown in the preview video was a bit too quick.
Also, if that version was the TL11 engine with the SCG, there was no rev down whilst changing gear (upto 3 seconds) and then rev up again when it engages.
The SCG sounds very similar to a manual gear changing 1st gen DMU (101, 121 etc) in which the revs drop, then rev again.
Look at how this has been implemented in TSC with the new class 142 pack 2.0.

Can i ask a question about this route and the Class 142 pacer.. does the Blackpool/Preston/Ormskirk have AWS built in?

i genuinely don't know if this is like Tees Valley (AWS included) or NTP (AWS not included), so i'm interested to know for this route

thanks for any info in advance!

Everybody's talking about the 142 Pacer, but for me the holy grail will be driving the Class 40, 45, 47 and especially the 101.

It is great that all three engine and transmissions combinations will be represented. However as in 1986 they were all Leyland engines with the self changing gearbox (I am not sure about 142050) not the voith transmission, will the AI trains on the route represent that or could any iteration appear? I might have missed it in the article so apologies if it has been mentioned.

Having driven the excellent new AP class 142 in TSC, if the "bounce" and driving experience is the same or better in TSW, it is going to be great fun to drive.

That's an acceleration rate of about 0,43 m/s². That doesn't seem too much for me but I do not know how the Pacer behaves IRL.

Yes, of course, but having a new route to run them on will be fun for me. I've played NTP and TVL to death over the years.

Throw in the Class 20 and 31 I doubt I'll spend much time " on the buses ".

There's a small section of AWS around Preston, also there are fixed distants in a couple of areas of the route which also use the AWS.

Nor me, but if some random person on the internet commented that on a youtube video, then it must be true. Personally, I'll wait for the preview and hearing what JT have to say before I judge. I didn't really hear enough in the preview to be able to say.

It’s just because it was a Diesel mechanical engine for that time.

The sounds you are hearing are the original Leyland engines with self changing gear gearbox

Yeah and I have posted in this thread a couple of times before regarding sounds but it seems these are being reused. Happy to be proven wrong though but I have just listened to the 101 sounds on a YouTube vid and they are identical.

They wouldn't both have the same engine sounds though, totally different generations..

I too was thinking straight away that I heard the 101 when I watched the preview, at least the TSW 101 anyhows, I don’t know the real life one.

Yep you can definitely tell by the horn, it's just disappointing that they have reused sounds and used them for a train that was so iconic especially in the north.

The horn is a Class 142 horn supplied by AP.

The other sounds on non-Cummins variants are a variety, including those sourced by Ed Fisk, from Armstrong Powerhouse and correctly from the 101. We had no suitable access to the correct engine type and our attempts to gain those sounds were not of a quality that could be translated into the sim.

The Cummins variant sounds were supplied by Ed Fisk and Armstrong Powerhouse and all sounds have been applied to the train by Ed.

Edit: and will it be able to couple to the 150 and the 158.

Were there any sounds limited in use or refused by AP due to this product somewhat competing with the recently released Class 142 2.0 Pack on TSC? The Leyland sounds on the TSC pack done by AP just seem more comprehensive - it would be interesting to hear the difference with the Cummins engine variants too.

Surely you could have worked with Armstrong Powerhouse and used the TL11 engine sounds from their class 142!? Using the sounds from the class 101 just isn't good enough I'm afraid.

That's what I mentioned further up. I'm sure an agreement could be done to AP's advantage. Would have been outright the best DLC to date with these sounds, especially seen as sounds for DMU's on other DLC's have not been up to scratch for the majority of releases.

I'm guessing there is a reason they haven't done that. Certainly if they have sourced other things from AP.

There's also like time and cost maybe. It's some talking and agreements/deals after all to buy the sounds and use them. Or what ap themselves allow.

Many months ago when this project started out, we did approached AP to see whether they had any sounds available within their library for the TL11 engine. We was told there was nothing available. Therefore we purchased the sounds for the Cummins engine from them and we are very grateful to AP for being able to assist on this. We were very lucky however to learn that Ed Fisks library had some audio available that could be utilized along side some other sounds to create something as close as possible to resemble the TL11. We think within our team that Ed has done a cracking job at doing so too.

We are aware that AP has released a pack containing TL11 audio, but at the same time AP did make a post on his own Facebook page stating that they only learnt about the TL11 variant near close to completion of the Class 142 2.0 Pack..

We do hope that you will not write off the product on hearing just a small snippet of audio. The pack really does have a lot to offer on 3 audio sets which you will be able to hear in full on Thursday on the DTG pre release stream for the route.

    Regards, Thomas

Can confirm that the 101's did use Layland engines, so I suppose the sounds are semi realistic. Screenshot_2023-11-07-21-06-00-36_40deb401b9ffe8e1df2f1cc5ba480b12.jpg

It has been many years since hearing a TL11 so can't honestly comment on the sounds of it, though the flange squeal is certainly there! As someone highlighted above the highlight of this route will be the fact I have got another place to run the locos I love and have much more interest in than any MU. Still looking forward to it as much as before. Cannot wait at all!
