I'm in the process of creating my Skegness to Grantham route but I was having issues with my Lidar. I decided to install the latest version of QGis but i'm still having the same problem. Looking at the image I've posted, this is the part where I've merged my files. The black areas I know has no Lidar Data available and can delete those but the areas that aren't very visible is part of my route and its these areas I have problems with when I try to add the lidar to my route in the editor. Could it be because the data isn't very visible? If so Then I guess I'll have to create another route :( possible problem.png

Man, that sucks, to put it mildly. I know it would be lower resolution, but would it be worth going with SRTM data?

Not sure if it would I'd have thought Lidar was more detailed than STRM and not sure where to get the SRTM data from. The website I use downloads only Lidar composite data

Pretty sure that you mentioned in your terrain guide that QGIS could download SRTM data on its own, but I may be mis-remembering. It would be 30-meter resolution, so better than nothing, if not by much.
Also, I think this site allows downloading SRTM data globally: http://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/

Yes, you need to install the SRTM downloader plugin in QGIS and can obtain data if you register for a free NASA account. Didn't made that process entirely yet because I got my SRTM data in a different way, but I installed the plugin so far.

You can also use this website:

In which resolution (signifies the number after DTM/DEM) your Lidar data is in?

I stuck for almost the last week with a problem to merge different types of Lidar data and after all attempts it failed and provided me blacked out tiles even where Lidar data should be available after the merge conversion.

However, my issuing Lidar data only has a resolution of 25 meter which comes close to SRTM resolution with 30 meter. I went that far to say, It's not worth to struggle anymore and I probably will create the part of my route which I initially planned to be covered by my bad 25m Lidar data to simply be covered by the SRTM data as pwilson79 also suggested.

I think this approach is better than discarding and leave the project at all. If you use terrain modifications and foliage, I hope it will blends good over it and people wouldn't notice the difference that much either.

I was going to switch to one of my other routes but decided to download the latest version of QGis at the moment i'm at 78% of my files converted, had 467 retiled files to convert. Each step of the processes has seemed to have taken longer than with the older version of QGis so hopefully that's a good sign.
