    Really I reckon they would look rather slick. Greyweasel if you get a chance would you be able to do your thing with these just to see please, as I would do it but haven't a clue how!

    The most ugly train IMO is the BR Class 460. I'm glad they were rebuilt

    So in other words, they improved upon the original 458 design by converting the ugly 460s into a 458 with a proper gangway door.

    I knew I'd be caught out. I do apologise, they look lovely sitting dead in sidings in the deepest darkest parts of the south.

    What is it people have against the 460? I've never understood!

    First time I saw a picture of these I was like "WOW they look amazing!"

    Then I learned they were on the Brighton Mainline. Compared to the Electrostars that run there, they must have looked like something out of the future!

    What people (me included) have against the 460 is its butchered Woody Woodpecker front. That’s the reason.

    Plus the picture that most people share is of the DMLFO, which is a slab-sided white whale of a thing in GX livery...

    Now in yellow flavour! 802s for TPE;
    Class802_TPEA.png
    And Hull Trains;

    Not forgetting the 397 for TPE;
    Class397_TPEA.png
    They do look better, the only loco that suits the no yellow look is the 68 for TPE imo, mainly cause it's such a weird face. The yellow 'mouth' does it no favours on other liveries.

    Plus a bonus pair, the 196 with the yellow face.

    Aesthetic of what, turning away from a classic British staple for bland European/Japanese modernism? Nah. Yellow all the way baby! As if these modern plastics aren't boring enough.

    [IMG]
    Also ugly, very very ugly. Literally any other DVT > Mk5a
    [IMG]
    These pics highlight my point, the metallic aqua blue looks pretty suave on the 68, reflecting & catching light on the weird curves and jaunty angles, it highlights the face. The black & dark blue also makes it pop.
    [IMG]
    You really don't get that on the 802, it (along with Hull Trains & new Avanti liveries) looks too subdued and tends to blend in to the background, the primary surface of the face is black, which takes away from it's streamlined front. It doesn't highlight it like it should. Imagine if the LNER 800/1s & GWR 800/2s had a black stripe instead, they would look bland, too severe and overall distasteful. Also dishonourable mention to the EMR 810, an ugly model with an ugly livery that does it no favours.

    Oh yes! They look much, much better, why couldn't you have had a job with First a couple of years ago Greyweasel mate! I think the 196s look better with just the yellow panels as done before rather than the full yellow front. Thanks muchly for doing that.

    Ha if only! Now the blues & pinks of FirstGroup is a stunning livery set, they sinned by replacing them with an inferior product. The 185 is the poster child for that classic paintjob imo, it don't look right with the randomly splayed out lines & shards of colour. Ech.

    Class_196redoD.png Oh yeah you mean cheek panels like the 197 right?

    Good money I'd imagine. I did like the dynamic lines but TPE's livery is quite nice personally, and the GW green is undoubtedly better.
    Sorry that was an awful description I meant the second of the two pictures as seen below:

    I suppose new TPE ain't that bad, it's a nice shade of light blue after all. Looks a belter on the 68 as I keep saying and the others need that yellow front teehee. Beats Thameslink any day of the week!
    Class_196redoE.png
    There we go, got there in the end! I'll quit spamming 196s now. lol

    Oh goodness! It's HIDEOUS!

    The class 397s aren't the best looking things out there (saved by the striking Transpennine Express livery) but ohhh my word is it awful in LNER livery!

    Please tell me this was a Photoshop or something and not an actual concept they wanted to put forward.

    New Trains For LNER
    Article written by TSW_Nathan

    LNER have just announced they've ordered a bunch of new trains to replace their dying fleet of class 91's. These trains will be built like CAF and will be in similar design to the Transpennine Express (also CAF built) class 397 units.
    These trains will be Tri-mode, meaning they can be powered by Deisil, Battery and Electric allowing them to run from London, all the way to Aberdeen or Inverness helping with the class 800 that have a limited service up there.

    The Tri-mode power with the new battery system could allow them to run on battery on non-electrified lines giving off far less co2 emissions per service.

    David Horne, Managing Director at LNER, said: “Successfully delivering this new fleet is an integral part of LNER's Business Plan. Our focus is ensuring we create a fleet that truly matches the needs of all our customers, with clear targets on setting new standards for comfort, accessibility, and exceptional
    customer service.

    Rail Minister, Huw Merriman, said: “Replacing ageing rolling stock is crucial to the sustainability,
    reliability and growth of our rail network, and I'm delighted passengers travelling on LNER services will benefit from improved services and greener journeys on these modern trains."

    CAF have provided an image for what these trains may looks like:

    upload_2023-11-10_7-30-36.png
    I'm looking forward to seeing these trains. Let me know what you think of them. :)

    Mate, I am British.

    The yellow front is used for safety for people to see a train coming from further away. It also looks better with most liveries with the yellow front rather than without. LNER is no exception to this.

    We already have, which is why yellow fronts are no longer needed. Any new trains that do are by choice.

    another great reason to keep the class 91s (to stop 397s coming to the east coast mainline)
    but i hope if they do replace the 91's then they will just end up replacing them with more 801s and 800s rather than 397s

    Because there are still these things called drivers at the front and we have eyes, and having bright lights right in your eyes is not particularly nice at all. I get called old fashioned for saying this but I still see the yellow panels as a key park of safety, stands out much more than black.
    Sadly the fate is sealed...

    The yellow don't suit every loco/livery but the only trains that generally look superb without it are underground metro stock imo. Though imagine saying every DB loco should have yellow on the front for whatever reason, it'd look terrible and there's no history there. The yellow is iconic to British railways and it should stay.

    Also that CAF concept is gross/uninteresting, like every CAF unit really. It's in 800 cosplay.
