But there is only very little information provided there, speaking just about "Editor Improvements" (not even new features) from 4 to 6 and 6+ months: Very disappointing to only get improvements to the Editor somewhere in the first months in 2024, not even with the Winter Core Update considering the fact some users really need fixes and improvements soon for their projects.
Yes, I watched the stream too. But apart of the stream, DTG actually gives me a very bad impression about their interest and effort to improve the Editor at all. We also didn’t see a new masterclass for about 3 weeks, any kind of reaction from devs in the dedicated PC Editor subforum also has become rare. Hopefully they don't start to slowly abandon the developement of the Editor. Would be pretty sad for all the people who put trust into DTG again with it. As it was a big seller for TSW4 they should update and provide help not only sooner but also on a more regular base.
I've noticed not as many people seem to be active on the pc editor forum too. At the start it was great when we all worked together to work through problems we had.
I assume people realized what a mess it is and that you can't even cook things with it. If it can't cook, it has pretty much zero actual use.
Well, in case of me personally, I just came to the forum exactly 1 week ago, spent the last days with messed up Lidar data. I purchased TSW4 standard during the Halloween sale, so that's why I wasn't there before and come now into it as one of the "new members". Probably will populate it with a lot of more questions and issues in the next days. At the moment, I'm in your guide Donny, trying to finally set up my Lidar and SRTM data corretly. I heard that another user who had similar problems like me solved his issues my following the guide of yours. So do I now and tomorrow. I really hope that DTG improves the editor further. I really want to setup my dream route and maybe some more when I ever will get to that point.
In the November qa thread, they have replied with they are currently working on improvements based on feedback but don't have any news
Notice how the November roadmap says now "Editor improvements" and is now in the Patches topic vs. the October roadmap that said "Editor V.2" and "Editor V.3" that were in it's own dedicated topic on the Roadmap
Well remembered! Is this good news or bad news? A subject for opinion but I would say the latter. :-(
I'd say bad news since it looks they scrapped any bigger plans for the editor completely and do only the bare minimum now
That's prettymuch exactly where I'm right now. Not that the lack of cooking would bother me too much but it's the core UE4 features being broken that limits the amount of experimenting I can do. To be fair I really enjoyed talking about various things (or just showing off) but it seems like every other thing I want to try is either missing or broken. I mean I can't even hook up assets to the DTG shaders to get proper rain and snow effects.
But what about the recent route creation projects like the most impressing Main-Weser Bahn which gives so many rays of hope and motivation to other creators to fulfill their dream routes? It made me think about if they came that far, there should be a possible way to create at least that, even if the Editor is in a quite broken stage yet. Isn't it worth for you to use the Editor to create at least a very basic playable route? Where exactly is the problem with the issues you mentioned about the missing cook or pak functionality or missing asset hook up features? I'm currently stuck at problems to set up my Lidar and SRTM data within the Editor and didn't come that far yet to experience the issues you're talking about. That's why I am interested about your game braking experience with the Editor.
These routes are most likely summer only with no support for ground wetness. Do they look nice in that setting? Absolutely and I did a bit of something similar however if you want to do things properly, you will need access to the core features that just isn't there. On the other hand if I started working on something now, it should be possible to hook things up later so there is something I'm missing and/or holding back for a not-so-valid reason.
