Now that Just Trains have managed to put the previously illusive stations with names on the in-game map can we expect to see this added to future DTG routes?

OMG I've been playing these games for years and never realised the map via the pause menu had names!

I've always just brought up the map without pausing, which doesn't have names on it.

Yes, there are two different maps. One with station names and the "active map" with all the running trains on it.

It also took me a while to figure this out.

I don't understand what the reason behind this is and why they couldn't put station names on the active map either.

I'm sure this has to be talked about before in this forum, but can't find it.

They have names on the "active map" (key 9) in the editor, so why we can't have them in game I don't know

IIRC one of the devs mentioned way back that it causes major performance issues, which honestly sounds preposterous, but with the some of the other weird stuff that happens in TSW, maybe it's true?

Then again TSC has properly labeled maps, and that doesn't seem to bring its ancient engine to its' knees...

Some of the new routes have cats. How can they be fine for performance when station names on a map isn't. It's as if there isn't any logic here.

I’m pretty sure names on the pause menu map were a TSW4 feature so anyone who has just found out isn’t too far back :D

no, at least on console anyways, I’m sure that’s when the names were added in, I was thinking it was with TSW3 at first but I don’t think it was and I’m sure it was TSW4

Edit: definitely wasn’t TSW2 on Console as I remember it on stream getting talked about and I definitely can’t recall that far back.

I don't know but I always thought the UI was the same on all platforms..

im not sure now tbh :D I don’t think I remember a time not seeing the names, but I recall a not too long ago stream was mentioning how maps weren’t very helpful until recently by the fact they were blank so I have no clue :D

I think they are referring to the ingame (not pause) map. It's hard to plot a freeroam path when you have no idea where you're clicking unless you really know the route well.

I seem to recall Matt saying way back that the game just plain crashed immediately if they added names to the in-game map.

It's been done before (by Kuju though ;) )

All platform names, service names and you can browse through tasks (TSW only shows the location of the current task)

I think sometimes whilst one game can do something with ease another is just crazy much more difficult, depending on each game. Likely just due to how things are set up. Complicated safety system logic (not saying it’s easy) = done, few letters written somewhere = nope

Fallout 3 for example, was said to be difficult to include a moving train, so they scrapped it entirely in favour of a train model being a hat/head and have the character run at speed under the floor to imitate a moving train :D (that’s what I’ve heard happened anyhows)

Yeah I'm not entirely sure why we haven't Received Any updates on In game map not having Station names etc. I'm hundred percent for it as well. I think it would be much easier for a Route learning Especially in other countries imo. I don't understand The difficulty in doing This I think this was a good post To mention The topic Cheers!!

The map in the public editor has names. I think the issue is in the cooking, which removes all this data from the map. The map in the pause screen is a static map, drawn by an artist. E.g. For Clinchfield it has a completely different sketchy style, which does not follow the tracks exactly.

Yes, I can remember that he even said so just in one of the recent TSW4 streams.

However, I would like to have more detailed explanation why this should happen, as me and I guess some people here find it somehow hard to believe that a few letters placed in the active F9 map does so.

The names of the stations on the active map are much more useful and important (especially for the new Free Room) than on the static map, which can be accessed via the pause menu and with which you can't do anything else.

A single location would be enough (and not a label for each platform) so that you know where you are if you want to set your own destinations on the map.
