Its unbelievable that a part of the game from launch STILL DOESNT FUNCTION. Like I'm literally getting very angry because the biggest selling point for me to buy this game was US locomotives and free roam. Still with this update they arent fixed! Im sick of this company and the way they keep saying we are working on it. Thanks JD thanks Matt for making me waste my fking money on this piece of garbage game.

Yeah it's not even funny anymore, I haven't seen so many failures even AFTER trying to fix other problems

You honestly want all the features you mentioned in a train sim? That doesn’t sound like not a fun experience to me.
I play TSW to relax, sit back in cab and go from A to B whilst taking in the scenery. If I wanted my train to breakdown than I’d be working for Southeastern and be on £100k per year.
So I’m guessing Sim Rail and TSC deserve this 1 star treatment too, since the realism bar isn’t set high enough for you?
Am I also right in saying you don’t play TSW, since you hate it so much?

I have absolutely zero interest in dealing with the stuff you mentioned. I don't want derailments, breakdowns, and broken couplers. That's not at all fun. TSW4 is to simulate driving a train. When I sit down to run a train, that's what I want to do. A nice relaxing time having fun getting the train from point A to point B, especially when I've made a plan to do just that. Without all of the real world things you have to deal with. Why would I want the train to derail or break a knuckle in the middle of the run? Then what? I have no choice but to just give up on the scenario and I leave upset and pissed off. All of that stuff you mentioned is for the real world and there's plenty of it daily. Trust me. ;) I'm glad the licenses DTG gets restrict stuff like that. Now I don't have to worry about it happening. I'll take photo-mode ALL DAY over the not fun side of railroading. If that's what you're looking for, don't bother playing TSW4.

Thank you for your kind advices to go somewhere else or just skip playing tsw. But I will remain here as long tsw is the only tran "sim" on xbx (I will never go back to PC) . I will squiz and enjoy every piece of simulation out of it and keep grumping on the FUN (arcade) part of it. You have to deal with it fanplayers.

Idk, I think TSW is a mixture of what all of you said, a "simulation arcade" game, since it's focus is on nearly-full realism (aside from the issues with the game) that can be scaled on varying levels depending on the player's experience and desires without compromise. What I mean is, for example, if you are an expert in trains because you are a train driver yourself, you can play TSW with all assistants and helpers turned off, derailment turned on, and the GUI on minimum, so everything's on you. But you can also play TSW with assistants, helpers like the train safety assistant that tells you when to confirm a signal, how much time you have for braking, etc., and with derailment turned off. But you can also have a mixture of both.

Well, Derail Valley makes this sort of thing fun, but that's because it combines video game logic on the operations side of things with a realistic physics simulation. Train Sim World needs to make some tradeoffs on the physics side of things to achieve a more realistic simulation of railway operations. Putting Derail Valley physics into the much more realistic environment and operations simulation of Train Sim World would be incredibly jarring because something that's just fun and games in the gamified Derail Valley environment would feel a lot more like the career- (and possibly life-) ending incident it is in real life. It's best to keep these things well away from each other.

Nevertheless, “incidents” are a part of the day to day operation of a railway line. I’m not talking catastrophic or fatal occurrences which have no place in a “family” game. But it would be nice to have random temporary speed restrictions pop up, the odd signal failure or maybe a message from the Guard that there will be a short station delay due to a disabled passenger needing assistance or a stubborn door that needs a kick to close. I know some scenarios do this but when it’s scripted you know what’s coming.

  9. Anything to shake up the predictable Greens all the way through the route. TSC did this quite well with some scenarios like 'Chasing Yellows', but I have a feeling the ai dispatcher probably isnt too good at dealing with random events..?

We know from previous discussions Matt has said the dispatcher will to some extent regulate for late running trains and if you are late will put the train that should follow out in front of you. However what it won’t do is then further regulate or re platform that train further down the line so you could get by there. There is also the possibility that too much late running could clobber the timetable. Maybe not a problem where trains go off stage at a portal but where there are defined next workings you could end up with massive congestion at turn around points or terminus. Nevertheless that might add to the fun and again, quite relevant to my OP, why we need a save game that reliably restores over several sessions and driven trains to deliver the emergent gameplay that would make things far more interesting over a full shift.

Wonder if any of the other support-logged bugs will ever get fixed. Or if TSW3 ever gets its promised fixes (which I dont care about as I got TSW4 anyways)

They aren't visually in the game, apart from like a split second. Screen goes to black and you get a failure message.

It takes a few seconds for the screen to go black, and that's enough time for there to be plenty of crash compilations on Youtube...

The derailment showing I think people want like Microsoft train simulator the original (early 2000s) it would wait until every aspect of your consists stopped moving then it would tell you about the derailment.

I don't get people saying that derailments are not in the game because of licencing issues. Train Simulator Classic had derailment physics since the original Rail Simulator release. The game was frequently used for fun crash compilations. Yet licencing was never an issue for most operators.

  18. Yeah there's plenty on YouTube that a 10 second search will verify.
It's good that they're limited in my view. There's plenty of unpleasantness irl that personally I'd rather not have to experience in a relaxing train simulator.

    I loved this.

You watch a whole mile long train derail on marias pass, only for the game to tell me "You derailed".

    Yeah. I KNOW.

On one hand, I understand what you are saying. I don't play a train simulator to crash trains either.

But on the other hand, good crash physics are a proof of good underlying physics. For example when Rail Simulator released and you could see videos of trains tilting in the curves due to lateral G forces, sometimes balancing on only one side of their wheels and rocking back and forth, you really felt like "damn, this game has amazing physics!".

Now when you see videos of TSW trains shaking in place or flying into the sky when bumping a bit too hard, you don't feel like you are dealing with a train simulator with good underlying physics.

    Hi DTG JD,

I want to say something about the update mindset in general. You said:

Also in the thread you linked:

    you said in one post:
What I don't understand is, why a route update or plan to release a new route requires a core change at all? All DLCs are separete from the core as TSW is modular built. The core is separated from the DLCs and vice versa.

I will not going to buy the new Blackpool route launched today, plus I also don't have the Arosa line and Edinburgh-Glasgow DLCs. Yet the update affects my gameplay/experience with TSW4 because I can't access the PC Editor anymore.

Why is it necessary to do so?

I mean if I would buy Blackpool branches and then the game gets an update to get and play this specific DLC content, that makes sense. But forcing me to get a mandatory update, which I absolutely have no benefit of, doesn't makes sense from the beginning.

I only can hope that the Editor launch gets fixed soon. The Editor was one of my main reasons to acquire TSW4. Still I'm in the period for a refund if Steam is understanding any complaints.

So please take attention to the Editor issue and fix it as soon as possible. Braking the things I paid for because of updates I don't need is ridiculous.

EDIT: Thank you for the quick fix this evening! The PC Editor launches correctly again.

Run 8 even lets you toggle derailment types on / off (switches, tip over, stringline) - and use rerailing frogs. Good for learning physical limits and correct DPU placement and fencing. There's much more to heavy US freight than what TSW simulates.

And unsurprisingly Run 8 has pretty much the same roster of licenced US operators as TSW, if not even more. So derailment issues with licencing is only a problem with DTG? Highly doubt it.

If I had to guess, it's another case of DTG making something up to act like it's not their fault. I mean it's not the first time it has happened...

Licensing stuff is definitely getting more and more complicated these days. TSW is much more present in the public eye. (Run 8 don't advertise.)

If you ask me, the weathered AC4400 livery was deliberately taken out of the Cane Creek DLC following a request by Union Pacific. (not selectable any more, but still in the game files though)

I highly doubt it. Cane Creek has been released more than 2 years ago. Do you really think anyone from Union Pacific still actually cares about it or even remembers it? I can't imagine anyone sitting at UP and thinking "damn, that video game route thing we did 2 year ago... remember how it has a dirty loco on it? contact the developers and have them removed".

Actually I can. What could be the reason then? TSC's Arosa line also got an update long after release removing an SBB logo from Chur station.

And it might very well be that licensing negotiations must be done / confirmed / revoked for each new TSW iteration, as they are done on a per-game basis.

The same reason substitution disappeared, rain is now falling in the tunnels of the London Underground, completed service medals disappeared and the editor is not launching anymore. This game is a spaghetti code mess where every update breaks 10 other things.

But I've checked and the CCR RailVehicleDefintion/Formation files were changed in the TSW4 version, it's not a core thing. The licensing for that weathered livery was only valid until TSW3.

In that case it is indeed weird. Then might be intentional. But I don't see why they would only change it in TSW4 then. Surely if it's a licencing issue, then they should modify all versions that are currently up for sale?

Chur is part of the Rhätische Bahn (https://www.rhb.ch/de/home). That is probably the reason they removed the SBB logo ;) Cheers

Chur is also a station operated by SBB. A node connecting SBB and RhB.

I already said something about this in my own thread about compatibilty between these which I would like to echo it to that topic as it would be too much to rewrite it and I couldn't say it in any way better:

"Instead, they created two different versions of the exact same DLCs on Steam now, both having independent audience, independent reviews, and maybe in the future (but hopefully not) independent sales. What exactly was the motive for that?

I only can think of they wanted the negative reviews, often negative "thumb downs" to be erased with the TSW4, which to a certain degree I do understand, because some bugs mentioned in the old reviews have been fixed by now with TSW4.

However, also some good and helpful reviews for the DLCs have been vanished for new players. For example, I wrote a 2 page long review for DRA - thumbs up one - covering mostly positive but also negative things, which new players of TSW4 now can't see and discover anymore. I mean I sat on this review for 2 hours just it to be ditched in the dust a few weeks later.

For me personally, I am experienced of that and now if I want to read a good and honest review of the DLCs, I go back to the reviews to the old TSW2/3 compatible versions.

So even for even out bad reviews it wasn't the best move, because many goods ones erased with this as well, and some players may refrain from buying a DLC, because there is yet not sufficient reviews on it."

Again, licensing happens on a per-game base. TSW4 is not TSW3 logistically. And DTG are not allowed to use the license for anything other than the negotiated games.

Well, someone definitely edited the files and took the weathered livery away from the TSW4 CCR menu selection. If it was by mistake, we'll know when DTG finally confirm the report.

I'll try to mod it back in though.

    Did
Probably to prepare for its use in training center, gameplay, using the core features. But does it really matter if there's an update to support the next release? It doesn't affect the game in any way.

I highly doubt Run 8 is officially licensed at all.

Armchair copyright lawyers on here can doubt that licensing is an issue all day long, but i'll defer to DTG's actual lawyers to know what's in the actual agreements.

Don't know to be honest, but I'll have to agree on that.

Just look at TSC's BNSF ban from 2016 to 2021. It was likely a measurement DTG's legal department themselves took, to avoid any possible legal action - not something BNSF explicitely forbid. There was no Yes and no No outside the US.

Many smaller devs use official logos - they don't have that huge PR machinery DTG have, so they're not interesting for lawsuits.

Of course you'll get into trouble making a "BNSF Train Crash Simulator" though.

Reasonable argument which usually I would agree with - but after several years following DTG's work and communication, I have learnt to not trust or believe anything they say. I do enjoy their products for the most part, but can't trust their word anymore.

So while their reasoning about licences might be true, I can't believe it, as it might also just be completely made up or just overly dramatized.

Can confirm the Editor improvement has gone live, and there's an improvement to Loading times for PS as well.

I don't know the full ins and outs of the dev process, but the prerequisite routes require an update to allow for additional content to be added to it (Achievements, back-end infrastructure, other things that connect to additional content). It is not those updates which have caused the issue(s) here, is it the core updates accompanying it which have caused the issue(s), rather than the route content.

Yeah, I really don't get the mentality of folks who get seriously upset at this game and create angry threads futilely complaining about the same things over and over again knowing very well how DTG operates. If a game annoyed me that much I would certainly not keep playing it and buying DLCs and updates for it. A bit masochistic for my taste but you do you, as the kids say.
