Influenzo, who works with Maik Goltz on the BR 420, just posted this picture:

    upload_2023-11-15_9-36-56.jpeg

What could that be? Looks like a 146.1 to me. Or a 152. But i could be very wrong.

Its revealed to be a BR218.

I'm wondering when the official DTG announcement will come or if it is gonna be freeware as a mod.

    It´s a BR218. BR 218 in Entwicklung.

It´s NOT the Ludmilla (which I was hoping for) : sniff ....sniff ...

But OK, the german routes are crying for a heavy mainline Diesel. And that BR 218 really looks tasty. So, happy again!

TSG has been working on the 232 for quite some time already though

Well, this is Influenzo's own development I'd say. Or maybe together with Maik Goltz
Maybe this is the reason why Maik said in another post, that the 420 will be further postponed :P

I'm really looking forward to hearing some details about this project. But with the 218, one of my most anticipated locos comes to TSW. super happy to hear that!

We do need a main line diesel for the German routes and while I like the 232 the 218 is probably more common place on former West German routes. Just hope sounds are from an unsilenced version, though.

 Lovely. The 218 will be an excellent addition to TSW when she's ready.

Indeed, that´s the reason why I first checked the BR232 sidelines to compare. Priorities have been changed back and forth, so there was a chance. She seemed almost ready when Maik announced the need for a complete redesign (which I understand, given the top notch quality aspirations from TSG). The 218 is a legendary loco, too. And she would add a great deal to the german TSW routes, no doubt.
But I grew up with "Taigatrommel" and "Ludmilla - altbelüftet" and those sounds and presence, my friend, they form character. Trust me on that. ;)

Are you sure "unsilenced" 218s are even a thing? I've never heard of that.

In any case the two exhausts are next to each other, so it'll be an MTU TB10 or TB11 engined loco – more likely TB11 as there are no TB10s in service anymore.

A loco from the V 160 family would be incredibly useful, as they were the mainstays of German diesel trains (both freight and passenger) from the 1960s to the 2000s, and some even run today.

I really hope the 218 comes with new Freight Wagons OR the desperately needed High Level Dostos coaches, which I doubt. Don't forget though the 218s do run Intercity Services as well, not to mention based on some research the 218 Have ran on Niddertalbahn with Dostos OR n wagen(Silberg) coaches as well which opens a lot of opportunities for the 218 imo

I guess they are primarily making this for the Niddertalbahn? Judging by real life photos, it seemed to run there with Dostos quite a lot.

232 first please. The V300 is the most capable and most iconic german diesel loco.

Definitely, the most important (west) german Diesels (215/216/218). They were just everywhere.

The sky’s the limit pretty much with the 218. Just as another example, we should see quite a few on LFR in theory. All of the traffic between Mainz and Saarbrücken that’s currently handled by 110s in the game should be headed by 218s (the OHL ends in Gau Algesheim so the 110s are nonsensical in TSW if you look too close).

I’m excited no matter what route she comes for in the end :)

I think it will layer onto Hamburg Lubeck as then you have ICs and REs and they will fit the era

In the meantime, that new demo "Train Planet" comes with a 218 with fine sounds, detailed cab model and a basically working EBuLa...

Oh wow... and here we are in TSW, STILL without a working EBuLa. Hopefully in TSW9 we'll get one.

IIRC, diesels required different cab cars from electric locos.

At least according to one source, the 218 should be compatible with all Karlsruhe-type cab cars (since the loco and the cab car both support KWS). See also a pic.

KWS works different for diesel or electric locos - there are two different control desks that can be fitted to the Karlsruhe cab car, depending on what type of loco you want to use it with.

This is what the Karlsruher Kopf looks like with the Diesel table installed:

They could be interchanged during maintenance.

I don't see EbuLa coming to TSW any time soon. Still the ECML Azuma or SEHS Javelin show the wrong next destinations in their screens (a fairly simple algorithm with an error in the data pointer probably). With that still being an issue, I don't see the competence to do something like EBuLa by DTG.

In TSC this was "solved" by virtualRailroads by providing texture slots where you could put pregenerated EBuLa screens in the asset folder for a scenario timetable, advancing the pages manually though.

I'm sure I've seen Mods for TSW2 doing this as well for some locos, but they seemed to be gone by now.

There are also a couple in a blue PRESS livery, which we've seen before in TSW on the 155 at least :)

I like it more in traffic red I must say. But guess that whenever comes we will get it in both Traffic Red for Maintalbahn and Orient Red for Niedertalbahn.

The "box" in the center between the bogies is definetly a diesel tank.

I really really hope they can make it substitute for 185 (one-way, obviously). So we can enjoy it on lighter freights as well, or possibly even on double-heads on some of the newer routes. Somebody would make a PC mod pretty quick for sure, but it would be a bummer for console players to have this just in one timetable.
